    Day one

I dialled 100 etc etc to file a complaint about very poor to absolutely no connection at all. Given reference number and told to wait till tomorrow.

    Day two

I did get to connect, but everything else doesnt work I can see the emails but cannot open them. Call came in from TM net. Asked me if I had connection, I said yes and I tried to explain that I cannot do much of anything else,… I got interrupted / cut off with the statement, …. u complain tak de connection sekarang ade tak connection? ade,…. terima kasih,…cut off.

What da!!!!! What kind of service is that?

when collecting our payment, they collect FULL.
when service us consumers, they service not even half

    my package is RM88/month.
I’d like to ask Streamyx: If I pay RM87.99, would you still let me surf the internet?

& dear Streamyx, now that you’re giving me a service with the value of say, about RM12.00/month or much less, can i pay you that amount?

You’re running a business, streamyx, let’s get real.

I have had the same problem for a few days now. Connection very, very bad.

Might be the Mikael Jackson Abdullah thing. Give it another day or two and see.

Not to forget that each time you dial 100, you don’t get to speak to a HUMAN BEING directly but instead you will be entertained by a computer, asking you to press this button and that button. But isn’t it a human being who has to finally attend to what we have to complain about? If computers can take care of our problems, may I suggest that TM and all other organizations currently using this form of answering system, including ASTRO, retrench all their human staff and purchase computers to do problem solving instead!

We are put on a wild goose chase by this stupid so-called high tech answering system and each time we are put on hold, we are forced to listen to the organization’s advertisements, at our own expense! To be truthful, I would rather hear an engaged tone each time I dial to these service centres. At least I know the telephonist is busy, but the fact is that these organizations have so many lines but so few telephonists to answer calls. In fact, I view this form of answering system as a STUPID INVENTION by some NUT!

Boss, flush your system like you did before. It might help to clear out the “arteries” of sediments.

    hi Lim KS,
Something must be wrong in accessing your website or is your blog website’s server overseas. When i ping, the round trip average time is 292ms. Twice and it give about the same result. However if i ping 1malaysia.com.my, ongteekeat.com and the star.com.my the average times are 12ms, 11ms and 16ms respectively. Using a 4M Streamyx package.

[admin – yes the server is overseas]

LG – as the admin points out, LKS blog is hosted in the USA. The USA is just about on the other side of the world to Malaysia, so about 20,000km around the surface from here. A bit over 20 hours at a bit under 1,000km/h by 747, right?

Ping gives you the round-trip time for a (very small) packet of data. 40,000km / 292ms is about 1.4 x 10^8 metres per second, or nearly half the speed of light (in a vacuum). Signals in copper and optic cable both travel slower (about half and 2/3 respectively?) than the speed of light, so 292ms is possibly not far off a theoretical minimum for signal propagation delay for a ping to the USA.

Note that there’s no shorter route between Malaysia and USA than around the Earth’s surface. If the signal had been routed through a satellite, the delay would be much greater: the Clarke Orbit (where geostationary satellites can be ‘parked’) is around 36,000km ‘up’.

the commentator above brings great shame to the great admiral cheng ho who navigated through the great seas of the world.

He could not even see that the admin was not complaining about the ping latency but on the packet loss. You know paket data hilang?

No wonder BN (read as Umno) supporters cannot even realise the sheer scale of PKFZ, the scandal of scandals. Cause the cannot see what is missing from the coffers.

This evening my mum phoned me to ask if we had received a packet of LEGO she sent to her grandchildren a month ago. Somewhere in Malaysia there’s a very happy child that my mother is not related to. I’m finding Malaysian packet loss very difficult to cope with. Presumably Zheng He decided it was safer to leave his packet in China than bring it to Malaysia.

    hi OrangRojak,

Thanks for the explanation. Anyway I did a pingplotter test, nos. of samples 100 with 15 sec trace interval. Found out that the packet loss is @ 40% mainly due to an IP address that is in located in KL, Malaysia whereby the ISP is TMNET.

Note: All other IP addresses linking to the host IP (limkitsiang.com 67.207.142.122 which is at St Louis, US, where the ISP is Slicehost LCC) are OK except for 3 IP addresses but their packet loss are less i.e. 5%, 3% and 1% resp.

Conclusion: TMNET or Streamyx need to buckle up.
