The great challenge in the Kuala Terengganu by-election on January 17 is for the 80,229 voters of Kuala Terengganu to send a clear and unmistakable message of a national “sky change” in the next general election as UMNO and the Barisan Nasional have not learnt the lessons of the March 8 political tsunami in the past 10 months.
Malaysians were promised after the March general election, which ended UMNO political hegemony, the BN two-thirds parliamentary majority and five Pakatan Rakyat state governments in Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kedah and Kelantan that the UMNO-Barisan Nasional coalition had heard loud and clear the message of the people in the ballot box and that there would be radical reforms in the country but very little had been accomplished in the past 10 months.
It is clear that the Umno and Barisan Nasional coalition do not have the political will and commitment to bring about far-reaching changes that can transform Malaysia from a country with first-world infrastructure with third-world mentality into one with a first-world infrastructure and first-world mentality.
In fact, Malaysia is not only losing out in the international competitiveness race, straggling behind one country after another, we are in the danger of becoming a third world country with third world mentality.
This must be the sober thought of Malaysians when they read of news report today of the plight of a policeman, L/Kpl S. Paramasivam, 49, who was beaten up by a group of 10 Mat Rempits at 5.30 pm yesterday while on anti-crime rounds in Kuala Lumpur – requiring five stitches for his wound in his head after he was beaten up by the Mat Rempits using helmets and metal rods.
Only three days ago, the Tawau acting OCPD Supt Ramli Ali Mat was seriously injured after being stabbed in his house in an attack by a group of five men and had to be admitted to the intensive care unit of the the Tawau Hospital.
In the past, former top police and government officers had been victims of crime, including a former Inspector-General of Police and a state Governor – with the former Penang Chief Police Officer killed in a burglary.
Now, serving police officers, who are supposed to restore to Malaysians the two fundamental freedoms they have lost – to be free from crime and free from the fear of crime – could not even protect themselves and are now regular victims of crime.
Malaysians do not feel safe about themselves and their loves ones in the streets, public places and even in the privacy of their homes. Now, not only ordinary Malaysians do not feel safe about their personal safety, even public officers are also not safe!
This is a reflection of the serious deterioration not only of law and order but of the general standard of public services in the country – 10 months after the political tsunami last March and half a century after Merdeka!
What were the lessons of the March 8 political tsunami?
The message was very clear – Malaysians want an end to the inefficiency, corruption, abuses and arrogance of power, lack of accountability and transparency, discrimination, injustices and human rights violations which have become a staple diet of Umno-Barisan Nasional rule.
Malaysians want to be proud of Malaysia for being internationally recognised and respected for our plural society, national unity and harmony, social justice, quality of life, international competitiveness, democracy, rule of law, human rights and good governance.
Even the two legislative reforms passed by Parliament last month as two of the three reform legacies of the retiring Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi – the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Judicial Appointments Commission – are half-hearted and unsatisfactory measures which will not go very far to end the endemic corruption in the country or to restore national and international confidence in the independence, impartiality and integrity of the judiciary.
If the MACC is really another ICAC (Independent Commission Against Corruption of Hong Kong) which will bring to book the corrupt however mighty without fear or favour, the Kuala Terengganu by-election should make history as the first clean and honest election in Malaysia where money politics would have become history.
Is this the case? Of course not as money politics have already reared their ugly heads even before today’s nomination.
The voters of Kuala Terengganu have a historic national mission on polling day – to speak up not only on behalf of themselves but of 26 million Malaysians and future generations in endorsing the March 8th political tsunami and sending a clear and unmistakable message of a national “sky change” in next general election as UMNO and the BN have failed to learn the lessons of the March 8 political tsunami in the past 10 months.

A country that does not focus on capacity building, ie. developing its human resource capabilities, will definitely lose out in the end. BN is so busy trying to divide and rule that it simply has no time to develop its human resources.
The world is undergoing globalization, but Malaysia is still a katak di bawah tempurung. When the government neglects its sizeable non-Malay minorities, it is like going out to the world to compete with one hand tied to its back. It will be battered, left, right, centre, no matter how many slogans it shouts. Just look at Cemerlang, Gemilang, and Terbilang…. it is a nice slogan, no doubt, but what has it achieved? Even BN dared not mention this slogan in the 2008 election. Rising inflation, high crime rates… now even the police are scared of the criminals! And one day when all the non-renewable natural resources run out, it’s time to watch what Ketuanan Melayu really has achieved.

On policeman being beaten up. It happens. At least this one was on duty. Being beaten up is an awful experience, and my best wishes go out Paramasivam, his family, friends and colleagues. I hope he makes a swift and full recovery.
Malaysia’s biggest problem is not its politicians, but its people. Apathy has allowed your government to be run by greedy incompetents. Apathy has led to your streets being overrun by gangsters. Barring the windows to your fortresses does not keep crime out, it only gives criminals room to run unchecked outside. Anti Corruption Commissions are meaningless unless the ordinary people of Malaysia are prepared to enforce the underlying principles of public decency outside their own doors and at the ballot box. This by election is not about Pakatan. No matter how inadequate is the Pakatan state governments, there election is about them. This election is about the recalcitrance of UMNO and BN. There is still no sign of change in the BN government. The cronyism, corruptions and racialism is still going strong. Vested interests still run the government.
This by election is to reinforce Pematang Pauh.
Dont worry about PAS. They do not have any power to do any mischief, as claimed by BN. Focus on delivering the message to BN.

Why won’t PR print out leaflets and flood the KT constituency with the following messages:
1. Wan Farid a stooge of KJ and Bodohwi – Mahathir said it.
2. What is the connection between Trengganu and Mongolia ?
3. Even a national service like IJN is not spared from the thieves.
Voters there are unlikely to care much about national issues like security or Eurocopter or new Labu airport. Local issues such as Wan Farid’s role in the Monsoon Cup fiasco or his role in the white elephant projects in Trengganu must be top of the list to be aired.

Dear YB LKS and All Malaysians,
While YB LKS and Pakatan Rakyats foresee “Sky Change” in KT and GE13 but Rakyats of MC in the heart of Capital and 90% Pakatan’s majority strong hold are still in Limbo over the property maintenance issues despite of 308.
MC is a clear case of blatant abuse of power and mismanagement of funds by the developer cum joint venture partner with the Local Council as the land owner, follow by the property manager appointed by the Local Council and now the Joint Management Body (JMB) since April 2008 because of Act 663.
Although Act 663 is meant for protection of owners of strata title properties, Act 663 have now been used by the Minority Controlled JMB with foreign parties to the bane of Rakyats Malaysia. The issues was raised initially with The MP before JMB formation on 29 March 2008 and thereafter with The Local Authority and Housing Ministry but the issues are still in LIMBO as of TODAY. 1 United Bangsa Malaysia therefore take this opportunity on KT to reproduce the article below for YB LKS and All Malaysians for “Sky Change”.

Malaysians Condominiums/Apartments/Strata Title Properties (MC) – Kisah Benar
(MC developed by JV with Local Council as land owner.(Managed by JMB since April 2008 – Act 663)
In view of the happenings in Bukit Antarabangsa, I would like to raise the issues on MC which is common to > 2/3 majority of all strata title properties in Malaysia. It is my fervent hope that our leaders and All Malaysians could stand as 1 for a solution. For, this forum, please find herewith synopsis of Kisah Benar in MC as follows:-
Despite repeated explanation that the issues raised in numerous letters since 21 May 2008 are not legal in nature and could easily be resolved via a dialogue with all stakeholders and the relevant authorities, JMB was unable to provide any answer but instead appointed a lawyer to explain the issues. (The Chairman of JMB had agreed to a dialogue within 7 days of The First JMB meeting on 29 March 2008!)
Lawyer & Partner’s AR Registered Post letter dated 21 October 2008 was posted at KL but received on 28 October 2008 when letter could easily be hand delivered, since the law firm operated from a residential unit bearing address at the condominium! This is sheer inefficiency and unacceptable as the letter failed to resolve anyone of the issues raised in numerous letters but confirmed the flaws stand and decisions made by JMB. In particular :-
1 JMB election on 29 March 2008 and Office Bearers
The property manager had reported a conflicting figure of 30% of owners qualified that is 90 owners in total. However, there are 502 units for MC and 30% should be 150 owners and not 90 owners as reported.
None of the12 office bearers is representing the developer. One of the elected office bearers was left vacant based on the notice given by JMB due to not qualified because of non payment of maintenance charges. 3 of them are foreigners and 4 of them are related by marriage and blood tie. The equal representation of 6 each for MC and Plaza Shopping Arcade (49 Shop Units only) is also not fair representation.
2 15 sens per square foot (Current Maintenance charge)
No working paper to justify that 15 sens per square foot is the correct sum for maintenance for the facilities and services provided by JMB.
Maintenance charges invoiced in lump sum and not itemized according to the facilities and services provided.
The maintenance charge and late interest payment was also not decided at the first JMB meeting on 29 March 2008 or at any subsequent meeting convened with all stakeholders. JMB have no legal right under Act 663 to decide unilaterally.
3 Sinking Fund
Many owners were misled by JMB letter dated 8 May 2008 waived the 7 sens Sinking Fund from the original 22 sens per square foot billed by the developer/property manager/Local Council since Day 1, from April 1998.
JMB actually intend to collect Sinking Fund yearly preferably in December at a quantum to be determined by JMB!
Sinking Fund was billed at 2 sens per square foot by Developer which was then revised to 7 sens per square foot, simple mathematic calculation would arrive at a figure of RM3.2 millions Sinking Fund over 1 decade to April 2008.
No action was taken by JMB on RM3.2 millions Sinking Fund not accounted for.
4 Commercialization and Surau
JMB notice under Lampiran 2 at mesyuarat on 7 Ogos 2002 states “Wakil Persatuan mencadangkan surau dipindahkan ke ruang bilik bacaan sekiranya bilik bacaan berpindah ke ruang cafeteria.”
It was recorded that Developer “Mengambil maklum ke atas cadangan pihak persatuan dan akan mempertimbangkannya.”
It also minuted under Unit-Unit Dijadikan Tempat Berniaga that “Developer diminta menyiasat perkara ini dan mengambil maklum bahawa unit-unit kondominium adalah untuk tujuan kediaman dan bukan untuk komersil/perniagaan.”
All these items were not acted on and instead JMB decided to put up notice to commercialise by tendering for tuision centre/hair saloon/cafeteria, etc? Car wash operator had since started business operations using owners parking lots in November 2008.
5 Financial Statements before JMB
For 1 decade since April 1998, no audited financial statements were provided to the owners by Developer/Property Manager/Local Council.
JMB had posted on the notice board a set of financial statements as at 30 April 2008, purportedly by Property Manager, with a net Current Assets/Year to date surplus or profit of RM5.2 millions.
There is no full and proper accountability of the huge sum of money.
JMB put up notice on RM380,000 outstanding bills of service providers incurred by the previous property manager which JMB seek collections from owners for settlements!
6 Financial Statements under JMB
8 months had lapsed since the first JMB meeting on 29 March 2008, JMB is not able to produce a single timely monthly financial statements. JMB buy time will have the accounts audited within the stipulated time pursuant to the Act, when owners have suggested that timely accounts be produced and be audited internally before the yearly statutory audit for proper accountability and full transparency.
JMB refused assistance from volunteer owners to have timely monthly accounted presented and audited?
7 Arrears Maintenance charges
JMB seek to collect RM5.6 millions “arrears” before JMB legal tenor when facilities not provided and shoddy maintenance services provided. For example, there is no working gymnasium and library facilities provided which are facilities indicated in the project plan for MC.
Basic intercommunication facility to Security Office and Management Office is also not functional for many units.
Security is lacking and lifts are not properly maintained. In addition conversions to use of property were made with the 2 way private access road trespassed by pedestrians and motor vehicles and owners faced harassment from the authority for use of the private access road.
8 Strata Title
A bombshell that strata title is not applied after 1 decade. Owners are also to pay additional sum for the strata title when this is to be done by the developer without additional costs to the owners.
To compound matter, the land is still caveated by someone when the property is supposedly sold to purchasers free from encumbrances.
Appeal to YB Minister/YB Member of Parliament/Persurujaya Bangunan
Although official appeal in writing TO THE ABOVE AUTHORITIES were made for assistance to resolve this decade long issues on property maintenance, the matter is still not resolved.
In the meantime, the minority controlled JMB with foreign presence and numerous blatant breaches of Act 663 continues to rule over the majority Malaysian owners.
Open Invitation to YB LKS and All Malaysians at large
Dear YB LKS, it does not need courage to resolve this matter. All that it requires is for the authority to do their work and a simple letter to the Chairman of JMB that their only authority is in Act 663, the Project/Building plan and Sales and Purchase agreement would go a long way protect the rights of the owners and Rakyats long suffered due to abuses by the developer/property manager and now JMB!
Do not wait for BA to repeat itself when the lifts crashed.
Fellow Malaysians strata title owners, please stand up as 1 Voice, as you may not be aware that when the property needs to change name due to subsequent sales or even death the JMB would forced full payments for outstanding maintenance charges without the need to address facilities and services not provided.
Just imagine the pains we will pass on to our children if the issues are not resolved over decades. Your children may be told your property belongs to JMB due to “outstanding maintenance charges” for decades!!
Malaysia Boleh! Rakyats MC pun boleh! Bersamasama kita sepasukan hapuskan semua penyelewengan mencapai kesejahteraan dan keadilan!

Dear All,
I believe by-election or even general election results can be swayed due to sentiments. I also believe that a great number of Malaysians do not cleverly analyse the fundamental issues plaguing the country prior to making a decision on his or her vote. Fundamental issues like the various manifestos issued and championed by all political parties and the wisdom to rightly think if they could actually carry out the manifesto contents itself. What are the impact to society at large if say the broadbrush of the manifestos were implemented. How does it jive and steer the country in terms with cooperation with neighbouring countries and other points which in a way would affect our international standing. As much I would like to hope that Malaysians do read the manifestos printed by all political parties but the truth rendered me otherwise. The issue of today will be the term of the day at KT. The apparent act of sweeping under the carpet of several “high profile” corruption cases would be deemed solved with the establishment of MCAC as many Malaysians may believe that the government is switching towards a more transparent policy on graft fighting. Other economical issues which are yet to be amicably addressed were side-stepped as the government implemented several rounds of price cutting on petrol. The politicians from Pakatan Rakyat (PR) were quite busy fire-fighting internal party squabbles and spend lesser time alerting the public on the alarming state-of-affair that Malaysia may be in, going forward. The thing is Malaysians will easily forget if they are not constantly reminded. For example, the recent rise of CPO price was quickly capitalized by our government and this in a way may switch several hundred votes to BN. I strongly believe that the current government should do more for the good of our palm oil industry:-
1) CPO price moves in tandem with other major vegetable oil prices.
2) Soyoil is reported to be selling at a premium of USD350 per ton over CPO. Why is this so? This is where the current government of the day through various palm oil bodies have to address. I read from articles that lots of money had been spent thus far in promoting the benefits of palm oil (PO) vis-a-vis other vegetable oils and to try to bring the price of CPO to parity with the other leading vegetable oils. But the result speak for the success of such promotion.
3) Large hectarage of land had been cultivated to plant oil palm (OP) following the dramatic rise of CPO price since 2007. Most of these hectarage are expected to reach maturity and yield fruits by 2009/2010. Has anyone ask the government how much and what percentage this going to be? My gut feel is that if all these hectarages including those initiated by Indonesia do mateliarize as planned, we may see an explosion of CPO in two years time. Of course, the government and several huge plantation companies had agreed to conduct wider replanting but is there a policy drawn up by the authority to ensure that this is adhered to?
4) PO as a substitute to fossil fuel is viable only when CPO price falls below RM1000 per ton or fossil fuel price rise beyond USD70 per barrel. It is precisely because of the potential of PO as a substitute to fossil fuel that we see CPO moves in tandem of fossil fuel price. Which means the viability of PO as a fuel is unlikely to be achieved unless mandated by legislation. At the same time, PO is an essential food especially in Asian countries and to mandate its conversion to fuel would mean less food available to the poorer Asians. This would not be a socially acceptable practice. Plus this action will inevitabily cause food scarcity and drive up the price of CPO.
5) It was reported that Malaysia can at best utilize 500,000 tonnes of PO per annum if the proposed legislation of palm-diesel is legislated and this dissapearance would only take place over the next year or so. Hence the intention to reduce PO inventory as mentioned by Minister of Primary Industries may take a while to happen and over the year we can expect other events to set in.
6) Also, the PO as a potential substitute to fossil fuel has generated much interest and many other countries with climate similar to Indonesia and Malaysia are jumping into the bandwagon. In other words, more PO production to come.
The above clearly shows the haphazard policy decisions by our government. Having said that has the opposition clearly countered them effectively?

1. the people of KT fully support the current high electricity tariffs, even though the price of petrol has dropped by 67%
2. the people of KT has been fooled by the sweet talk of umno
3. the people of KT has betrayed the aspiration of the Malaysian people
4. the people of KT advocate the continuation of corruption in this country

Malaysiakini reported that DAP Youth chief Anthony Loke is the only VIP from DAP attending the nomination this morning. If this election is so important to Pakatan Rakyat (PR), DAP should go all out to campaign to make sure that BN/ UMNO lose in this by-election.
PR/ PAS is an under dog in this by-election, so PR should stay united and work around the clock to ensure victory!

So, we can see clearly that MCA and Gerakan are succumbing and subservient to UMNO whereas DAP and PKR shared the same weighting in PR coalition.

“Sky changes” and “political tsunamis” remain hollow slogans as far as the rakyat are concerned because it is becoming apparent that Pakatan are not able to provide a solid and unified alternative to BN; whether KT falls to Pakatan or not is not the issue; effectively ruling the states that are under the opposition, is.
BN is regaining their political strength and influence, it may soon be time for Pakatan to ‘rebuild’ itself.

PKR must win the KT by election to tell BN that the rakyat are not happy with the 51 year rule of corruption,cronyism,racialism,religious bigotry,injustice,discrimination,hypocrisy and tons and tons of scandals with the culprits going away scot free.On top of all this heap of trash and garbage is the increasing crime rate and the sense of insecurity felt by the people.

And then what? It could pay Pos Malaysia to distribute them, I suppose, but that costs money, even if a printer worked for free. One of the things I’d like to see one of the parties championing ‘reform’ to do is to demonstrate their own internal adherence to transparency – what do campaign funds get spent on? Where do those funds come from? What campaigns have been planned? What projected cost?
These things (and your leaflets, Godfather) are the sorts of things cyber-supporters could easily get involved in. Rather than harping on about it, I suppose I could just set something up…

Talking about electricity…I have never in my life…paying electricity bills for past 40 years..get so many monthly warnings….to cut off my electricity….if I do not pay an amount I have already paid.
Actually they are short of meter readers…and clerks..totally out of control…and bill by guessing the average used.
Then they must get payments..so churn out all warning letters.
I checked with my neighbours….all got waning letters.
This is in Subang USJ 2/4.
In Subang SS15/4….same thing with electricity and water bills…always warning letters.
In my whole life….whenever I get such bills..I settle it within a week.

Unless there is massive vote rigging, the voters are smart enough to deny BN a victory.

3. Cronyism
4. Arrogant leaders

8. Pendatang issue and condone by top UMNO leaders

YB LKS and All Malaysians,
Rojak and True Malaysians, that is the problem with being Not Issues Focused with too many differences along race/language/gender etc. etc. practised by Malaysians Leaders and The Rakyats are in LIMBO with “Sky Change” and posting in Mandarin.
I would rather it is just Blue Sky and Sunny Day and Everyday for All Malaysians BUT to achieve this THE RAKYATS must be TOGETHER FOR 1 NATION as 1 MALAYSIA and 1 UNITED BANGSA MALAYSIA.
“Sky Change” could be for good and for worst for THE RAKYATS. Perhaps now 1 understands why we have SKY KINGDOM in the land of “SKY CHANGE” in KT of all places!
So much for the confusion, BUT Malaysians Condominium (MC) is in desperate needs of CHANGE for the better after 11 years of abuse and mismangement.

It is not BN regaining its strength but the Chinese voters in KT choosing to stay home. The few Chinese voters who will vote have already ‘sold’ their votes and are only carrying out their part of the bargain.

Well…..in order to be a effective machinery to win any election. Pakatan Rakyat should show to the people that they can be good governance in all the state that they rule now. A monitoring body should be set up comprising of non partisan people in making sure effective administration comprising of professionals not not politician and their suggestion should be taken seriously and implemented as soon as possible if agreed upon.
I sincerely think that the Penang State government is so far the better performed one compared to the other states. Let’s make all the other states work harder as well.

Let’s take a second look at hudud laws. Let’s not criticize it just because it comes from PAS. With the crime situation becoming critical in Malaysia, and is expected to be on the increase in the coming months due to jobless rate, I think hudud is a good deterrent. What more if hudud can be applied on corrupted politicians from UMNO. I would love to see them stoned. This country needs hudud justice……

It doesn’t matter who proposes a new law, or even what the law is. Malaysia has a law, it has just been edited a few too many times, it is lackadaisically or selectively enforced, and nobody even seems to pay it any attention. Adding another law, or replacing the one Malaysia already has, is not going to improve anything. The only way to improve Malaysia is by enforcing the law at all levels. If a government isn’t doing that, or is doing it selectively, they must be voted out, and so must the next government, and so must the government after that, until there’s a government that really does understand ‘civic duty’. As citizens*, it is our collective civic duty to do that.
I would love to see them stoned
Perhaps they’d perform better if they were… oh wait. You don’t mean like that.
*I’m not a citizen, but I would consider it, if Malaysia looked like it had a hope of realising its potential to be a tropical paradise. My children are Malaysian citizens, so I’m only doing my parental duty when I plead for improvement.
