Ahmad Ismail revolt – when will Abdullah stop his flip-flops and demonstrate that he is Prime Minister for all Malaysians

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi suffered two mortal political blows within a short period of six months – the first “political tsunami” of March 8 general election which smashed UMNO’s political hegemony, ended Barisan Nasional (BN)’s unbroken two-thirds parliamentary majority and drove BN into the Opposition in five states now run by Pakatan Rakyat governments and the second “political tsunami” in the August 26 Permatang Pauh by-election, where Anwar Ibrahim stormed back to Parliament with a thumping majority of 15,524 votes after an enforced absence for a decade.

Who would have thought that Abdullah’s third mortal political blow could have struck so fast and so devastatingly as to plunge his image, credibility, authority and legitimacy as Prime Minister to their lowest point since he took over from Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad as the fifth Prime Minister less than five years ago?

And this third mortal political blow to Abdullah was primarily self-inflicted, the direct result of his flip-flops over Bukit Bendera Umno division chief, Datuk Ahmad Ismail’s racist reference to Malaysian Chinese as “penumpang” in the country.

In this instance, Abdullah out-flip-flopped himself as he took at least five different positions in the past two weeks, viz:

• On 30th August, Abdullah condoned and excused Ahmad’s offensive, insensitive and racist speech, claiming that Ahmad had not “meant it”.

• On 3rd September, to head off protests from all directions both inside and outside Barisan Nasional, Abdullah agreed that his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Razak should apologise on behalf of Ahmad, with Najib conceding: “It (Ahmad’s comment) was totally unwarranted and doesn’t reflect the position and attitude of Umno or the leadership of Umno. We regret it very much.”

• On 4th September, Abdullah adopted a third position declaring that he was trying to contact Ahmad to ask him to tender a personal apology.

• On 6th September, Abdullah backed down in the face of revolt by Ahmad endorsed by 13 Penang Umno divisions (including Abdullah’s Kepala Batas Umno division) refusing to tender any apology on the ground that he was the aggrieved party. Abdullah accepted Ahmad’s self-serving and ridiculous explanation that his speech “based on historical facts” had been misinterpreted by Sin Chew Daily.

• On 8th September, Abdullah declared that he was “very unhappy” with Ahmad’s second press conference yesterday as Ahmad had outdone his racism and insensitivity in the “penumpang” remark.

In his second press conference yesterday which was suggested by the Prime Minister, Ahmad, backed by 13 Penang Umno division leaders, warned the Chinese in Malaysia not to mimic American Jews in seeking to control the country’s economy but also its political power; told Gerakan to leave the Barisan Nasional; demanded that Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon should be stripped of his post as the state Barisan chairman and the post be given to the MCA and reiterated that he would not apologise for his “penumpang” remark made at a Permatang Pauh by-election ceramah on Aug 23.

At the end of the press conference, a picture of Tsu Koon, which was hanging on a wall, was publicly brought down and torn to pieces.

The whole country and even the world is watching as to whether Abdullah would allow himself to be held to ransom by an Umno division leader with the threat of leading an open revolt in Umno not only in Penang but also in the country.

The Ahmad revolt is the direct result of Abdullah’s weak and indecisive leadership, out-flip-flopping himself and transforming what should be a very small issue which could be resolved with a directive to Ahmad to apologise and set a good example as a model Malaysian into a major political and nation-building crisis.

Ahmad’s antics and histrionics are irrelevant and he should be ignored altogether.

The sole issue is whether Abdullah will stop his flip-flops and assert his authority and leadership to demonstrate that he is Prime Minister for all Malaysians regardless of race, religion or political beliefs and remain true to his pledges and commitmernts to uphold the 1957 Merdeka social contract, 1963 Malaysia Agreement, 1970 Rukunegara and Vision 2020 objective of a Bangsa Malaysia.

There are extremist and irresponsible politicians who are trying to fan racial flames to incite communal tensions and foment unrest as the passport to regain political mastery in the country.

As the Prime Minister for all Malaysians, Abdullah must slap down these extremist and irresponsible politicians and not allow them to rear their ugly heads to hold the future of the people and nation to ransom for their petty and despicable ambitions.

May I suggest Sdr. Lim, it may not be productive to put all the onus on Badawi at this stage of the game, less you play into the hands of those bigots. Even if Badawi does not flip-flop, he may not be up to fixing the problem, its just beyond his skill set at this point.

I would like to suggest that you push BN component parties to instead attack UMNO Supreme Council particularly Najib instead of relying on the PM.

Unless you are confident of taking over next week, if Badawi falls now, it will mean a longer road to fight against these bigots once they control UMNO. They will kill the goose before they let you have it. You want to be facing Badawi and Najib in the next two years and Najib in 4 years time. Otherwise you may not even get to face anyone in 4 years time i.e., they won’t let anyone vote.

    Let cooler head prevails…

Malaysians in central America are watching this news closely with a heartache. Having lived in central America for the past 20 years or so, our hearts are still very much Malaysian. Malaysia is still a place we call home. Everywhere we go and when we were asked what nationality are you…”Malaysia” will be a proud answer!!

It will certainly be degrading and sad when I go home oneday soon, I am still regarded as a “pendatang”.

I really hope I can maintain my speech to call myself a Malaysian everywhere I travel in the US.

I want to maintain my Malaysian identity and proudly tell all my American counterparts that Malaysia is still a place for me to call home.

Hopefully one rotten freaking Umno racist will not sink the entire ship!!

AAB has been struggling for words. So pathetic! He is under serious duress. If he is not going, the whole country will break up into pieces.

There is a Chinese saying: “Dragon gives birth to dragon, phoenix gives birth to phoenix; Rats are born to burrow in the ground.”

We simply can’t expect AAB not to fumble. He does not have leadership quality. Worse, he has the advisers who give him all the wrong medicine.

PM is very unhappy with AI’s remark and arrogance. He demanded another explanation from him(?) before action is taken against him(?). I doubt if any appropriate disciplinary action will be taken by AAB other than “I am now satisfied with his second explanation”, “he assured me that he will not do it again”, “I am sure he won’t do it again”.
Common, PM AAB, show us and prove to us that you are the present PM of Malaysia. Take severe action on AI now, TODAY, before it is too late.

This is the sad state of our nation, YB Lim. On one hand we stress the importance of unity, on the other hand, the leadership is too weak to impose discipline. The end result, the people suffers.

The weakness of Abdullah has hurt the nation badly. His apparent lack of resolve cause people to speculate; is he an interested party? Is there something for him to gain for this? Lets look beyond Ahmad and his Penang UMNO. Look at the big picture. We have concluded Abdullah can’t lead, even if he is the UMNO president, but what can we do about it?

Asking that question seems to meet with a blank wall. Nothing. Nothing we can do. We can’t remove him. We can’t impose changes. We are just helpless witness to the destruction of our nation.

  20. #20 by yhsiew on Tuesday, 9 September 2008 - 10:10 am

I am sure there are disciplinary rules in UMNO. Abdullah should immediately invoke such rules to rein in “dangerous upheavals” caused by Ahmad Ismail before the situation escalates into a full-blown racial riot.

Action should be taken against Ahmad Ismail if he fails to abide by UMNO disciplinary rules.

I am sure there are proper ways for Ahmad Ismail to express his displeasure over Sin Chew’s report. The way he did it is just unacceptable – tearing down pictures of Mr. Koh and threatening news reporters.

There are two issues which the PM and BN leaders need to distinguish in Ahmad’s case. First, he made an intepretation of our historical roots in this country, which is a matter of his opinion. Second he linked the first interpretation to our rights as citizens, which is against the constitution.

The PM and BN leaders should allow this man air his opinion in a quiet and civil way. Then deal with what he has to recommend.

UMNO’s party elections is just round the corner. Ahmad Ismail is worth one vote with another 13 behind him. Badawi has to weigh whether to have that 14 votes or cast aside his personal interests.
That we will know in due course.

Do not ask for apology or to do the right thing. Leave them to their racist ways. The rakyat will now know for sure that BN/UMNO is a racist party who will champion the cause of one race only and not all Malaysians. Just highlight there racist remarks for all to see.
The issues for the next election becomes very clear: Racist versus non-race. Opaque government who practice negotiated tenders etc versus open transparent government. Oppressive government versus enlightened government.

This is a cunning racial ploy cooked up by Abdul Ismail to stir up havoc and the slowness in UMNO’s response shows that they are riding along on the ticket. Don’t be ensnared by this dirty trap!

If UMNO is sincere, where is the home minister Syed Hamid who is responsible for peace in Malaysia?

Chinese is not against the Malays & Muslims, in fact more than 70% of Chinese voted for a Malay& Muslim Anwar Ibrahim in the recent PP by election and more than 60% of Malays voted for Anwar. There is no race or religion issue here, the Rakyat are just not happy with BN, UMNO in particular and they want to give PR a chance.

So Malaysians of all race & religions, do not be fooled by this ploy.

Let the Malays from PR come out strongly to rebute this Abdul Ismail and condemn his poisonous racist remarks.

Like what I said in my earlier comment UMNO is breeding extremists. With Abdullah weak leadership, all hell broke loose in the party. Abdullah weak leadership simply fails to disipline these extremists which UMNO had been breeding all this while. Abdullah had made mistakes after mistakes and this shows very clearly his weaknesses and his inability to hold the highest position in Malaysia which is the prime minister post. He should have disiplined these extremist in UMNO during the past UMNO assembly where these extremist were so bold to utter seditious words which hurt the feelings of the non-malays in this country. Instead he chose to gave only light punishment like only warning to these extremist. This made these extremist bolder because they think that they are above the laws and enjoyed impunity. Now, they are so bold that they even dare to challenge their president and their deputy president decision. I am not a politician and I do not belong to any political party. I decided to vote for a change in the government after sensing the damage that may have been done to our multi-ethnic country. Till now, I have no regret in voting for a change.

Looks like Ahmad Ismail wields greater power than the President of UMNO, BN and PM of Malaysia. He can demand Gerakan to leave BN and appoint MCA to be the Chairman of Penang BN. Why ? because of the fricklemindedness of the PM of Malaysia.

He is the warload of Bukit Bendera and Penang just like the Zakaria of Port Klang fame. He thinks by shouting louder and pointing fingers even at journalists , the people can be cowed. No way man ! Maybe, he think by doing this to Tsu Koon before and got what he wanted, he can do it again at others. Maybe, he thought his shouting game can get all the contracts awarded by the state govt but alas now this is a new ballgame altogether with a new no non-sense PR state govt.

His political antics of the 1950’s would not work and ricocheted back at him. Can the people of Penang trust and place your confidence in this type of divisive, deceitful and arrogant leaders from UMNO and BN to be the state govt again ? We had wasted 50 years of glorious years and would not waste another 50 years with this brand of divide and rule politics played by UMNO and BN.

He mentioned that he can ” silat ” better ” than Tsu Koon. Sure, look at how he “silat” the blame onto the innocent Sin Chew reporter. He claimed that the reporter and Sin Chew Press is ” twisting ” my words and therefore should be prosecuted and apologise to him and religion and the Chinese community ! He is the silat master of the highest category.

Ahmad Ismail is only one of the selfish demons among the UMNO members.
Just because the Malays immigrated to Malaysia earlier than the Chinese and Indians, that doesn’t give them any special rights.

The Chinese and Indians are cheated by Razak and Onn and Mahathir and the rest into agreeing to let the Malays catch-up in economy wise with their racial discriminatory NEP which suppose to end in 1990. Now they want it permanent.

Every one whether Malays, Chinese and Indians pay the same amount of Tax every time they buy a Macdonald burger or when they pay their Income tax.
If the Malays have their special rights, why aren’t they paying more taxes then the non-Malays.

Every human beings is living in only one world, the Earth. Advance countries have already known this for centuries.
UMNO is one of those demons that use the special rights issue to draw supports from certain group( the Majority.) as they thought that the Majority can forever bully the Minority.

Star Online today, Sept 8, 2008:

“A visibly upset Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he would seek an explanation as to why things got unruly in Penang yesterday.

He was referring to the press conference at Menara Umno in George Town where Ahmad’s supporters tore up a poster of former Penang chief minister …

“We will get an explanation as to why it happened and after that we will decide on the action to be taken against him”, he told reporters …”

Wow. I am impressed. Look at those strong words. And the indication of determined and definite actions that would be taken.

But wait a minute. The fiasco started sometime back. Well then again, I suppose its better late than never.

But didnt he realise that in politics (and public administration) slow action is as good as no action.

So whether or not those strong words were translated into real actions later on, it makes not a difference.

I hear a call by some to re-import mahathir into umno. Well the old man will surely discover in umno a pair of old socks – loose, ill fitting and sliding toe-wards all the time. Oh that can be annoying.

  51. #51 by Damocles on Tuesday, 9 September 2008 - 11:38 am

Uncle Lim, let me digress a little from the topic.
There is another solution that I have been thinking about.
Since the Malays outnumber all the other races and an election is a one man, one vote affair, why don’t the minority races engage the Malays in a population race!
I’m quite sure that the combined efforts of these minorities will result in their becoming the majority races which ultimately mean more votes for them and with good governance in the areas captured by them, may also result in their having a two-thirds majority, with the power to change the constitution for the betterment of all Malaysians.

whats right is right, and wrong, wrong, irregardless of race and background.
The new malaysia should uphold the rule of law.It takes courage and leadership to make the right decision, even though it may be unpopular.

I really wonder for someone with a big house, and his own private pool, is the right person to be talking about being oppressed.

I believe there will be more of this to come, in their last desperate attempt to remain in power.

It is even more vital for us to stick together now, as we come towards the final countdown.

Please remain cool and calm, and protest silently. The wolfs in sheeps clothing would try to confuse us now. They would pretend to be fighting for us, when they are the actual ones that devour us.

Be smart, malaysians.Keep our eyes on the prize. A country, for once, we can call home and mean it. An environment, for once, where we are all brothers and sisters.A vibrant economy, that is lucrative and where the revenues are used to help all malaysians, irregardless of background. Lets put some meaning back into our citizenship.

At the end of the day, we should ask ourselves what does it mean to be a malaysian? Not what does it mean to be a malay, chinese or indian.

Whats wrong is wrong, whats right is right. This should be applied to all malaysians.

    Dear All,

This is just another show or act that we stirred up the emotion of different races. DAP or PR’s component parties should not join in the bandwagon and sing to the tune of the racist comment.

Just ignore them, let MCA sing the tune. PR’s component parties should instead outline how and why BN start this racist show/act, I belief UMNO, MCA, MIC and all BN’s component parties know about this act behind closed door. I am not surprise if they have organize and become actors in it too.

    Be more mature lah!

AAB will definitely NOT order AI to apologize. Maybe KTK is also play-acting to demand AI to apologize.
If AAB were to order AI, it is Malay ordering a Malay. No racial tension.
If KTK demands from AI, then it is Chinese vs Malay. Start to prepare for 513 already…

No point in asking AAB to take action. I think this is what he wants. My bet is that AI will continue to rant and shout about pendatangs and all. He may even add more insults…
PR should send people out to tell the masses to ignore such insults. Do not reply when provoked.
Also, do send a message that whatever the BN component parties say, esp Gerakan and MCA and MIC, they do NOT represent all Chinese or Indians or any other ethnicity in Malaysia. They have been voted out so they are not representing us.
I am sure that they will be used to utter some racist remarks back at the Malays thus sparking another 513.
BN goons want their power back badly and I am very sure that they are willing to kill for it.

Ahmad’s latest outburst fits quite there as one of those unseen hands poignantly composed in ‘Hidden Hands’ by Said Zahari in Kuah’s May 13 book. But all Malaysians would be the loser fi given to sentiments.

So I would deal with Ahmad’s venture firstly as a product of democratic leeway come hithetrto to the Malaysian political scene, and secondly to optimize efforts dealing with such type of incendiary.

Malaysian have AAB to thank/curse for the more liberal leeway AAB has allowed since he became the Malaysian PM. Whether this came about intentionally or an unintentional does not matter. This liberty to speak one’s mind unhindered by police action is the very essence making up democracy.Malaysian particulary those in the opposition have always sought the government allow democratic ways to prevail. [Of course, it would be only true democracy if any Tom Dick and Harry can likewise speak their mind unhindered by police actions].Therefor in true democratic spirit, Ahmad’s outburst should be rebutted convincingly in similar manner [press statements] showing where the errors and flaws are in Ahmad’s frenzy. In other words, treat the whole episode as a public debate – nothing more, nothing less. No ones feelings and sentiments need be hurt. Treated this way, racial sentiments and its ugly tail, racial incitement, WILL not come about – Ahmad has just been proving this on quick take. Two quick takes can be made here: keep alive this government, and treat Ahmad offering as an open invitation to public debate.

However, Ahmad outburst should also be viewed as an ‘improvished explosive device'[IED] under the control of master planner[s]. As such, having ‘exploded’ Ahmad is nothing more but a spent and shattered casing – he is no longer a concern at all. But there can be many of such IEDs. As in Iraq, these IEDs can cause a lot of collateral, and are highly dramatic and physcological intimidating in nature as intended to be. But as also in Iraq, the best way to neutralize and render safe from such IED is to understand the mind of the planners, gather forensics, and pin down the master planner.

So, deal with Ahmad through the democratic ways, keeping in mind that he is already a spend shell. However, there can be many future Ahmads, and the best way to deal with them is to expose its master handlers.

Why is this Ahmad acting as such?

My deduction is that he is on his ‘last leg’ and is going for broke. Since he has not much to lose, might as well, play to the extreme; giving provocative statements, et cetera.

One thing for sure, he has no respect for its leaders; to be exact BN – UMNO, least to its state’s leader. Whatever his motive is, it is not good to create such ruckus lately particularly in this month of Ramadan. Humbleness and utmost respect to Allah is vital in this month. His actions can tell you what type of a person he is.

All in all, he should realize his actions and come to senses. I hope all things will settle quickly and amicably without resorting to any actions that will lead to disharmony.

It is not fair to place the entire blame on AAB for the furore caused by AI.The big mouth old mamak should be taken to task for the deep seated racism and arrogance nurtured by his party during his 22 years as the helmsman.

  63. #63 by Jeffrey on Tuesday, 9 September 2008 - 12:07 pm

What is disconcerting is that the PM has lashed out at Ahmad Ismail ostensibly for reasons that he has no right to ask BN to sack Gerakan rather than the more significant ground that he made racist remarks “Pendatang” of the Chinese community and instead of amelorating further compounded the injury by reference to “Amercans Jews”.

What is further disconcerting is that up to now Ahmad Ismail appears to have so far escaped immediate punishment/discipline and successfully stood up against and undercut the moral authority (primarily) of PM Badawi (whose supposedly home state is Penang from which the 13 ‘rebellious’ divisions supporting Ahmad Ismail are based) and, to a lesser extent, the deputy Najib (who has apologised for UMNO on his behalf) as well.

This is UMNO factional struggle at its most intense. One can only wonder whether Ahmad Ismail’s recalcitrant stance and playing the usual race/religious card is acting alone in response to or creating opportunities or in acting in concert with premeditation backed by other power brokers.

I guess the general feeling amongst power brokers is that something has to be done fast to undermine PM’s leadership which left alone will lead to Anwar’s Pakatan Rakyat taking over relegating UMNO to dustbin of history for another 50 years.

We must remember that the vested interests accumulating over 50 years of BN’s rule are very extensive reaching every fabric of government and society. They will never allow, at any costs, Anwar’s PR to take over in this way and in this time. Let us not kid ourselves that things will proceed smoothly as Anwar plans. Already our Ringgit is sliding fast against (rising) US Dollar in part due to outflow of the monies including ill gotten gains of vested interests out of the country – just in case….

The threat of a take over by crossovers is taken very seriously or else:-

    1. Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would not have been persuaded to rejoin Umno to support Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah for the post of Umno president in the party elections in December as disclosed lately by Sabaruddin Chik;

    2. 49 BN MPs won’t be taken for a ‘study’ tour to Taiwan. Sure, this is not a permanent solution. However it suffices to thwart Anwar from meeting the magical deadline of 16th Sept laden with symbolic significance to East Malaysians!

This is because whatever documentation Anwar has obtained – if he has obtained such – regarding defections will likely be after 8th March 12th Election but before the 12th election candidates put by by BN would have put up declarations that they were loyal to BN’s parties and would not defect that presumably conflict with such latter declarations to defect that they might have given DSAI. In such a conflict of documentaion, if the crossovers were to be brought to the Yang di Pertuan Agong to make up the numbers, His Majesty might just require pysical presence of defecting MPs to confirm that their latter declarations to DSAI prevail and subsist superseding their earlier ones to BN! If these MPs are not present on 16th Sept. then there is no way for DSAI to achieve his stated purpose by that date!

Stability of the country no hinges on how the PM handles and diffuses the crisis created by Ahmad Ismail who seems to be bolder by appeasement. If mischief makers were behind him, then anything can happen for an excuse to be concocted to foil PR’s takeover plans by a clampdown.

We are moving closer and closer to 16 September 2008, the date that marks a watershed in Malaysian history!

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…” (Charles Dickens) – A Tale of Two Periods in Malaysian history.

Obviously Ahmad Ismail and his gang of Umno warloards from Penang are agents provocateurs, deliberately provoking Malays and nonMalays to carry out rash action or racial riot. They were using words that deserve them to be locked up under ISA. They were telling AAB and NR to F Off! They want the nation to enter into a state of chaos and emergency!

Can anyone keep a tight rein on the potentially dangerous and explosive incitement of Ahmad Ismail and his gang of Umno warloards? It looks like AAB cannot. Who can?

KTK – Why do people still expect him to function properly? His head had already been torn off from his neck and his face had already been ripped to pieces by Ahmad Ismail and his gang of Umno warloards! No more KTK lah!

Funny, for a guy who sold his soul and principles to work with Umnoputras for so many years, this is the terrible ending he got from Umnoputras. See how they tore KTK up – it reminds us of one of the worst ways ever of bestowing death to a human by an ancient emperor: five horses separate body (“wu ma fen shi “)! RIP!

Since when are we on “military rule” that military personnel can comment on civilian matters?

  68. #68 by Jeffrey on Tuesday, 9 September 2008 - 12:19 pm

PM appears to be in a quandary. 13 UMNO divisions supporting Ahmad Ismail are from Penang – supposedly his power base. And these UMNO divisions have alienated Penang’s Gerakan & MCA as well. The entire BN of Penang is in disarray: if one were to have an election tomorrow, the PM may lose his parliamentary seat! That’s how big the crisis and that’s why he is using kid’s glove to deal with these group of ‘rebels’, who are only emboldened by his appeasing approach to undermine his authority further.

    Meanwhile MalaysiaInsider reported :

(Quote) /// “Malaysia’s Defence Forces Chief Jen Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Zainal has asked the government to take stern action against those who bring up racial issues. This is because such issues can bring about chaos to the country”.

The General’s remarks comes amid rising tensions brought about by the controversial comments about the Chinese in Malaysia which was made by Bukit Bendera Umno division chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail.

Abdul Aziz’s is considered unusual because it is rare for Malaysian military officials to comment on civilian issues/// (unquote).

    Food for thought!

  69. #69 by Ken G on Tuesday, 9 September 2008 - 12:22 pm

Ahmad’s attempt to rouse racial sentiments will not work. Malaysian society is far removed from 40 years ago. The conditions for 513 which was a sharp class divide between the races no longer exist now.

Nevertheless, these rabble rousers will still give it a shot. Badawi’s mistake was not to put down Ahmad immediately. His went on to make an even bigger mistake to accept Ahmad’s half-baked explanation.

If Badawi fail to take stern action now, his position as PM will be untenable. If it flares further, he may have to go immediately. But why should this enlarge further unless those in power are totally inept at managing this third tier leader?

When the dust has settled, it is the component parties in BN which will suffer the greatest damage. No more can they pretend that they are in a power sharing partnership with respect for all races. The racist face of Umno has been revealed and the weakness of the response by Umno leaders will continue to haunt the coalition which may even break up.

We have finally stood up and we want to tell the world that we will not fear any threats and we will fight with our life to protect our rights and things belong to us. No one can challenge our rights. The Chinese have since made ridiculous demand for the UMNO division chief to apologise over something that is historically correct. There is nothing wrong to state the fact. The Chinese were immigrants and they should accept the fact that they are subordinated to the Malay if they want to live in this country. Anyone who intend to challenge our rights will have to bear serious consequences. The act from the Bukit Bendera Umno division chief is a brave one and it represents a new generation of Malay leaders who do not fear anything. His act should be highly commended and acknowledged by all the rest of UMNO leaders.

I would like to suggest that you push BN component parties to instead attack UMNO Supreme Council particularly Najib instead of relying on the PM.

Dr Koh has taken a firm stand and daringly spoken out against Umno these few days on this issue..that is good albeit too late and that was why he was being rebuked and even ‘torn into pieces’ by these Umnoputras now. It clearly shows one thing, no BN component party shall go against Umno. Today Gerakan has almost no position in BN anymore, that is why these ppl are so daring. Perhaps, we shall very soon see Ong Ka Ting’s face being torn too..

They are many simple minded Malay who are very easy to be influenced by this irresponsible provocation. All these while Malay have never being neglected. The only real problem was the implication of the NEP which has been totally failed to assist the masses, the Malay in particular and it has instead go to certain elite, well connected group, people like Ahamad and so fore. When these people are fell threaten by the losing of political power they refuse to admit their mistake and instead raise the issue of racial sentiment. In doing so they hope they can create another opportunity to gran back the power they have all this while enjoy. They also hope that they can continue to rob the nation wealth and keep to themselves with out any hard works and effort being put in.

308 GE has clearly shown that no only one race has realised the fact but the Malay themselves also has realised that the NEPhas not helping the creation of wealth for the MAlay.

I call upon all Malaysian, regardless of their race, religion let work together, let condemn this sort of race sentiment, let work together to prosper. But this will only can achieve with a strong leadership. And we all hope that let not ruined all the efforts by our forefathers who have fought with blood and sweat for independence just because by some one who is short sighted and of low class.

Having said that, it will also be a challenge for Pakatan government to deal with Malay / non-Malay racial issues when it takes over.
As “Hishamuddin” pointed out above, all these are results bred by MCA/Gerakan/MIC over the last 50 yrs..by their silence, kow-towing and inactions… So YB, pls help to ensure Pakatan balances this well. Though Anwar’s stand is clear so far..all Malaysians should be treated fairly and equally with Malay rights still being protected… But this could also sound contradicting : Scrapping NEP is being fair to all races, but does this mean then it will infringe Malay rights?

As far as I know, the Constitution penned on 31st Aug 1957 is clear on the Malay rights and privileges in exchange for citizenship to Chinese and Indians..so what on earth is the relevance of talking abt pre-Independence and Chinese being “Pendatang” anymore?? Is Ahmad trying to remind us again that we WERE once immigrants..so we should still behave like an immigrant?! That is assuming, this was what he meant as he claimed now…

Like many pointed out, Chinese and Indians have toiled on Malaysian soil for the past 51 yrs, contributing significantly to its nation-building..as much as the Malays do.. Today, we should be looking at a Malaysian agenda to further prosper and develop the country.. rather than looking backwards at Malay destiny, Chinese immigrants and pre-independence! I do appreciate Malay history and we should, but do we seriously think it is time for a change now? Or do we still want to stay comfortably inside our ‘tempurung’ or dinosaur’s cave lagging behind many developed nations around us?

I pray that Pakatan will take over this government soon..whether it is Sept 16 or after.

    A Frustrated M’sian Chinese in S’pore.

After 39 years, those arrogant UMNO still wants to talk on 513 ? Not small fries but big guns like Division head and state BN head.

Just imagine, what kind of an animals we have bred these 50 years ? Whose fault is it ?

U do not need to send those MP for agriculture workshop in Taiwan, instead you should send them for kindergarden lesson on racial harmony.

What fools we have after 50 years of independence.

Kasim Amat… well you finally wake up after missing for a week. Did your husband stop you from posting?

I like your comment on Ahmad Ismail. Well, what about if a Kadazan says the same thing? “Get lost you Melayu, this is Tanah Sabah, untuk orang sabah, bukan UMNO”? What would happen if a Dayak says, “Get lost you Melayu, we are headhunters.”?

Kasim, if that is your mentality, it shows how shallow your thinking is. This world is big enough for both of us, but too small to accommodate our greed. Unfortunately, it is such ultra thinking and racist UMNO man that would get far in UMNO. So, Kasim, your political future is very bright.

Zak will a pure Malay stand up and be counted. Most MALAYS if not all have foriegn blood running in their veins.Malays are descendents of ARABS, BUGIS,JAVANESS, PORTUGUES CHINESS and many more.
So by right as the UMNO BIGOT said ”MALAYS are also PENDATANG.”
What is surprising in MALAYSIA is “” AS LONG AS ONE OF YOUR PARENT IS A MALAY AND A MUSLIM YOU ARE REGARDED AS A MALAY” Even if the other parent is a Chiness, Indian,Eurasian or even a Martian.
A friend of mine took a Malay girl as his second wife. His children from his second wife are all regarded as MALAYS.Where by his children from his first wife are still Chiness. So Zak what are shouting about.

can I ask the pm now “Is the king happy with UMNO right now?????”

I don’t agree YB LKS should extend his hands to pm to help him solve this problem. No! no! no! Like AhPek said, no point and no use. UNLESS, pm is ready to rid all his family/cronies greed for MONEY!!!! Let’s ask ourselves, do you all actually think that all politicians especially pm/dpm really, really, really, really, REALLY care for the rakyat? All these giving out handouts and aid to orphanages and whatnot shown in the media are just propaganda. Why only do it during ramadhan? One last caution, it will be really suicide to bring back TDM and cronies!!!!! Don’t ever let that happen, for goodness sake!!!! I got a feeling also that he (tdm) is behind this fella, giving or instigating him to go against pm (as if I care) but who doesn’t want peace and harmony in this land??? So, please, REJECT AT ALL COST OF BRINGING BACK TDM INTO THE FOLD, INTO THIS GOVERNMENT IF DSAI CANNOT SUCCEED THIS 916!

It is fast becoming apparent now that Ahmad Ismail is just a “special man on misssion” to pave the way for TDM to return to UMNO’s fold. As I have said the whole house of UMNO is crumbling and now the ceilings and roof tiles are falling on the heads of Gerakan & MCA.
I thought they were going to bury Anwar Ibrahim in PP!

The long term solution is to CRIMINALISE RACISM
in the country by the govt whether it is BN or PR. Tell everybody that racism is not condoned or accepatble behaviour just like stealing, robbing, cheating, etc Make it a criminal offence and stop classifying as it “sensitive issue”. Once racism is criminalised, if you commit an act of racism and if found guilty you served out the punishment as meted by the court. Then and only then acts of racism verbal or otherwise will be minimised effectively

  101. #101 by wanderer on Tuesday, 9 September 2008 - 3:42 pm

Ahmad Ismail is definitely not a Malay hero, he is simply an UMNO opportunist. The plain fact is, he has lost his fertile ground to harvest his ill gotten wealth, knowing it will be sometime, before BN can make a come back in Penang…at least, pass his political life. The only option he has, is to play the race card, to create chaos and fear in the country. The motive is bring an emergency rule.

  102. #102 by Malaysian Always on Tuesday, 9 September 2008 - 3:48 pm

    YB Lim,

I agree with jjireh99 that PR and the rest should just sit this out and let BN settle amongst themselves. There is no need for any reaction to ahmad’s comments. We know that this is a trap and they are just trying to bait us, hoping that something will happen and give them an excuse to declare a state of emergency.

Please don’t fall into their political trap! Even worst is bringing back TDM. That man has ways of silencing and bringing down people that badawi doesn’t have. At least badawi is easier to deal with, as he is not as ruthless and cunning as TDM.

Why do you think ahmad ismail is so bold? He definitely has backing from someone very high up! Most probably TDM! UMNO politicians are cowards and they won’t dare to do something like this unless they have very strong backing.

The way therefore to counter something like this is to just ignore him and let this episode die down into non-relevance, deep into the abyss of oblivion, so that they will never be able to use this as an excuse to declare a state of emergency.

This clearly shows that they are either under Umnoputras control or b_ms of the same kind. What fairness, laws and justice we have left in Malaysia?? The whole world is watching and laughing at us. Malaysia boleh.

  104. #104 by zak_hammaad on Tuesday, 9 September 2008 - 3:56 pm

swipenter, criminalising racism is an interesting thought. It would be very difficult to prosecute if such laws were brought in because of the intricate folly of identifying race with religion. What one may see as racism, others would see as an attack on their religion.

“Sensitive issues” as I understand it are subjects that have the potential to derail stability in any given location in a country. To one extent or another there are ‘sensitive’ issues in almost all countries. To what extent they are guarded depends. In the UK, it is a crime to “glorify terrorism”. As you can see it is a very vague and ill-defined concept. They’ve had cases which were thrown out and cases that stuck based on intent. I view this issue similarly where the intent to instigate muct be proven in the court of law.

    Good day.

BN is clutching on the every if not last straw to survive, the very truth is that they (BN) will never hand over power to anyone. no one will gain from this racial discrimination.

AI, AAB, Najis, etc why they are behaving as such is simple to analyze – they are obsessed by money, power and ego. Only God will knows what will hapen next.

Think about it. Could there be an ulterior motive here? Gerakan has only 2 MP’s and it would not be a great loss to bn if they left bn. It’s not enough to shake bn’s regime. bn still has the Chinese through the MCA.

The best thing for Gerakan, MCA, PPP, etc to do now would be to withdraw support for bn, and support the rakyat. The rakyat are sick of bn. Staying with bn would spell the end of all these parties anyway. So if they know what the rakyat wants, these parties should opt out of the bn.

    Zak,

Every journey no matter how ardous begins with us taking the first step. Just imagine that racism is criminalised. How many individuals, organisations both private and public including govt institutions would dare run the risk of being accused and charged in a court of law for practising racism Let the court of law decides whether there is intent or not.

Race and religion, we hope we are matured enough to separate the two.

  123. #123 by jeremiah on Tuesday, 9 September 2008 - 5:45 pm

The Christian response to the person making provocations and hurling insults is to love and bless him. This works all the time: look at how Gandhi resisted the British and how Mandela demolised Apartheid. We have already gained a moral victory by not being provoked into anger but praying for those who wish to be our enemies.

Do the exact opposite of what the Devil wants, which is t onurture anger, leading to bitterness which leads to hate which leads to conflict. Deal with the root of this man’s words which is clearly motivated politically for a showdown. Let the law and the PM handle him. But all citizens should forgive him and show kindness to him. At the same time, ask him to explain what he wants to do with his beliefs and charge him if he breaks the law.

Rights of citizenship is never a zero sum game. It is a win-win situation. The only zero sum game in town is splitting the oil money and tax revenues between various vested interests.

folk, let be fair in judging this issue. datuk ahmad says the sin chew reporter quoted him out of context but nobody believes him. everyone seems to believe the newspaper but are we sure the reporter is right? we are not there during the ceramah but why did we choose to believe the reporter and not the umno guy. dont practice double standards lah, we have to be fair, the police are investigating, so let’s wait for the outcome.
bear in mind it is not easy to write a report based on someone’s speech, unless you quote him verbatim and write the whole speech, you face the danger of quoting out context. if you do not believe me, ask any reporter about this.
but i suppose after what has been reported, nobody will accept anything but the police finding ahmad guilty as charged. this is the danger of a trial in the media, once someone is condemned, he is doomed no matter whether he is right or wrong. sigh….

    Ahmad Ismail saga.

Oh yes Godfather. I can smell business opportunity. Tell kassin, your business partner.

Print posters (of all sizes) of mca and gerakan fellas for destruction by anyone who feel like doing so:

    1) in public before the media;

    2) on stage before an audience;

    3) at home in private;

    4) in the toilet before his willy; or

    5) anywhere else.

You may want to print them in large numbers for public destruction. Just in case the guests of the destroyer too would like to participate in the destruction. Now those guys may prefer smaller prints. So make sure you have all the right sizes.

Also, for a good kick, print the posters on scented papers will you. You can charge more for these. Besides, the scent will make the destroyer go wild and lose their head. Oh yes, anyway of infusing some ecstacy into the paper so that when burned, the smoke will carry some of that stuff in the air. Wow. The thought of this is enough to make me high and cum.

Speaking of kick, print some on papers that can be rolled easily into tight little balls. You never know. Some people may prefer kicking to tearing.

I think you know what I mean. Use your own creativity to produce more variety.

My commission, 5% of your gross sales value. OK?

If Ahmad Ismail is nowbody like Kasim Amat, he can go around inciting racial hatred, and nobody would care. But he is a Division Chief of UMNO who was supposed to influence policy within UMNO. Najib apologized for Ahmad Ismail not because Najib felt it his responsibility as a Malay to apologize for the statement of another. He would have to make an apology for what Kasim Amat has just written in this blog, if that was his understanding. Najib apologized for the failure of UMNO in reining in their senior party member who has openly voiced opinion at variance with party policy. With the criticism of TDM against Najib for the apology, Ahmad Ismail has chosen to side with TDM, an outsider, against UMNO Chief and deputy. Now UMNO is facing a rebel who draws attention publicly. The solution is for UMNO to sack Ahmad Ismail.

AAB might have known the solution but has been waiting for Ahmad to do a TDM to resign from UMNO. That would not happen because it is rumoured that TDM is rejoining UMNO again. That news add to AAB’s problem. AAB would be seen to be bullying a lesser being in UMNO if he chose to sack Ahmad at the time when he had no choice but to welcome TDM.

AAB should now learn the lesson that some problems can be solved by time alone, others might become more complicated as time goes by. That is especially so when the opportunitst of all time is waiting to do him in.

Be careful folks, there are more than meet the eye!

Although stern action could be taken on Ahmad Ismail at the moment but the real action, more deadly and more devastating, will actually be targeted on Raja Petra and those people who are responsible for UMNO’s slipping grip on power in Malaysia.

Don’t you sense that the bravery shown by Ahmad Ismail in playing up the racial sentiments of malays, going head to head with Gerakan while ignoring the president and vice-president is very fishy?

By sacrificing Ahmad Ismail, they will turn around and say that in order to be fair and show that they don’t practise double standard, all people who are considered as threat to harmony and race relation in Malaysia will be rounded up and detained under ISA. In doing so, NGOs, foreigners and oppositions in Malaysia cannot now argue that only action is taken on Ahmad Ismail for disturbing racial harmony but the others like Raja Petra, Bloggers and opposition parties be spared from action.

They would sacrifice only one low level UMNO politician, albeit Ahmad Ismail, but they are able to put the big fishes like Raja Petra, LKS, LGE or Anwar behind bars which would slow down or stop completely their march to Putrajaya!

At the moment, the malays are very worked up and angry; they want equal action treatment and heads to roll – UMNO’s opposers’ heads!

In killing two birds with one stone, MCA, Gerakan and MIC will fall all over themselves in praising UMNO for practising fairness and justice to the non-malays. They will be duped into staying in BN for the time being and foiling the implosion of UMNO.

So watch the wayang kulit carefully. UMNO is likely to take stern action on Ahmad Ismail tomorrow! But very soon, they will go after the real target with greater zeal!

    Watch out!

The problem in UMNO can be compared to an army.

Suppose you were the general and had a choice – would you prefer 500 men who are willing to follow you to the end of the world or 1000 men of which 200 to 300 are only waiting to sabotage your plans.

Ahmad Ismail just trying to stir up racial sentiments. Remember how the Penang UMNO people held the ‘rally’ accusing of LGE of trying to remove malay special rights?

Same thing here. First they tried to provoke the Malays. Now they just taking opportunity to provoke the Chinese and trying to paint themselves as ‘victims’ against Chinese oppression.

    Let’s give this a thought.
That racist GOON is known to be close to the old wizard.
Could he be a paid ‘actor’ while someone is directing from behind so as to make a ‘comeback’?
Let’s wait for the show to begin!

Ahmad Ismail will not go further in political career with his kind of mindset. Let’s see what are the stern actions could be taken.

And his arrogant shows he may be backed up by something, maybe hidden agenda, such as comments from blogger “9 to 5”.

He has been very “aggressive” in front of media last few days, and his statements seems more insulting day after days.

Kita semua anak Malaysia berharap, isu ni dapat diselesaikan secara aman dan secepat mungkin, tidak berbaloi jikalau ekonomi negara terbantut sebab seorang yang tidak ada wisdom, EQ dan IQ.

    Majulah Malaysia!

    Dear YB LKS,

The “Dreaded” time & language has finally arrived – yes, the “Critical, Dangerous & Ugly” Political situation developing in this great nation, precipated by the “Evil & Desperate” Powers-that-be, provoking & inciting “Racial & Religious” divide amongst the downtrodden “Anak Bangsa Malaysia”.

Just give them more rope to “Hang” themselves at every turn towards their “Demise” soon.

“Devine Intervention” works wonders & with the “Anarchy” developing within their ranks of “Wannabe Young UMNOputra Heroes” aka “Pendatangs” also, they have their own “Enemies” from within !

PM & DPM have lost the “Plot” altogether & this “UMNO Anarchy” will be the “Mother of the BN Self-Desruct” mechanism in full action.

We have to be virgilant, stay UNITED, stay calm, have Faith in God Almighty for His Blessings, Protection & Guidance so that we will not fall into the BN “Chaos Trap”.

fat ahmad will be bought by aab, much like mb of terengganu. either promises of deals n kickbacks, or promises of higher office if fatty is willing to stand down a little. fact is aab’s power base is eroding, he should expect more fat ahmads come knocking. aab is between a rock n a few hard places. anwar’s breathing down his neck, mca n gerakan r showing a modicum of spine, n fatty is mobilizing his likeness malays by playing up racial sentiments. aab better watch his back, folks like najis n maybe even tdm r circling.

Why do we only see those morons in UMNO?
Could it be due to following?
    1. When you don’t filter morons when they try to join your party, there can only be more and more morons around.
    2. When you don’t punish morons, that will lead to more normal people acting like a moron.
    3. Leader who is supposed to control the party is sleeping. So morons get to fool around.

It must be hard to wake up sleeping after a long time to realize the fact that there are too many morons around. There is a saying – if you can’t beat them, join them.
However, we don’t need morons to run the country.

We hope to see PR clean up the mess in putrajaya soonest possible.
