Lee Chong Wei – pity to become PP by-election “fodder’

Congrats to Lee Chong Wei as Olympics badminton silver medalist.

I watched his finals match with Lin Dan and was rooting for him to win the first Olympics gold for Malaysia, but it was not to be.

He visited Parliament yesterday and would be honoured in a special ceremony in Penang tonight where he would be presented with a cheque for RM300,000 and a monthly pension of RM3,000.

Chong Wei is a national hero for all Malaysians.

It will be great pity if this national status is diminished by making him a “fodder” in the Permatang Pauh by-election – as indicated by the New Straits Times Dewan Dispatches article “Lee Chong Wei becomes Permatang Pauh fodder”.

Pathetic. They are scrapping the bottom of the BN barrel. Even more pathetic that Indians can only be given licence to collect scrape metal while Malays get APs and scholarships.
How more can they keep insulting voters’ intelligence?

  2. #2 by StevePCH on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 9:26 am

Dear YB, is it not expected ? BeEnd will use all these tactics to garner votes. But sooner or later it will backfire.
It also shows that they are very desparate and willing to pull every single thing to gain support. Space tourist ? Judiciary Reform ? Lee Chong Wei as puppet , why pit thim against more than 50% population ? Anwar’s losing 9million compared to billions by Ameno ?
Sodomy vs CSL video , BMC vs GrandSaga ?

  3. #3 by StevePCH on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 9:31 am

just too many questionable BeEnd practices and too little good things to show by BeEnd.
If BeEnd claims PR tindas Melayu, Ezam had just said 1 billion was release to Bumi contractor during Anwar ! Now, isn’t that contradictory again ?

Just pathetic at what BeEnd will do to garner votes.

Lee Chong Wei is Malaysian Hero. Not BeEnd Hero ….. sorry to say.

Anything, living or nonliving, that can be exploited by the BN to hoodwink or to shiok the populace will be fully exploited by the BN as ‘Satu lagi projek kerajaan BN’!

Of course, the space tourist, the badminton team members, shiiit ful, sai hole, etc are being used to hoodwink people.

On the other hand, many other prominent issues like the Lingam pom pom pom video, the C 4 blast, the CSL sex and oral sex (‘the future is in your mouth’) video, etc are swept under the carpet.

And the BN believe that they are Bersih, Cekap, Amanah, and Leadership by Example!

Kit – thanks for starting this thread.

Anyone know how to petition for a Tun-ship for Chong Wei? I mean if a space tourist can get a Datuk-ship, I am sure Chong Wei deserves no less than a Tunship.

  9. #9 by madmix on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 10:02 am

Chong Wei richly deserves his reward but the reward comes from the rakyat not the BN. PR must remind voters of this. On another note Saiful says swearing not political but the Star reports that the “swearing ceremony” is shown nightly on screens in BN ceramahs. That proves the blatant liars Saiful and BN are. PR must capitalize on this.

  10. #10 by pulau_sibu on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 10:15 am

Tun-ship? smart people would not need such a title. Not like Arif Shah who wanted to buy a fake one. People like Michelle Yeoh, for instance, she never used that stupid title for herself. It would be more like an embarrassment than an honour. Only our stupid boleh politicians like to pakai these useless titles.

Hopefully Chong Wei will not dissapear into oblivion like the 92 Thomas Cup winning team…

Winning the Thomas Cup set Malaysian badminton back at least 10 years.

Its not the first time Chong Wei has become BN fodder… Remember the March elections? He was used to campaign in Gopeng, if I’m not wrong…

PS: Its Lin Dan, not Li Dan ;)

Agree with you on this point. However, there is no contraction here. Chong Wei should be awarded, rewarded and recognized for his heroic achievement. He should be given a Tun-ship, and he should receive it politely. Whether he wears it on his sleeve is a separate matter. Good to note that Michelle Yeoh does not use her conferred title. Likewise, Lee Kuan Yew had never use his Datuk title, and unlikely to touch it with a ten-foot pole. Not just because Datukships are now a dime a dozen and much debased.

Umno has been a anti Chinese Education organisation since the 60’s otherwise why Ariif Shah has not been nominated to Parliement in the last GE in March ? Why now, simple as that Chinese education is only a political tool being used by Umno sementara only.

  22. #22 by AhPek on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 11:08 am

YB,that Lee CW be made a Permatang Pauh fodder shouldn’t surprise anybody, in fact it is to be expected. This is not the first time they have used Chong Wei.Ling Hee Leong, the ‘wonder’ boy who at the tender age of 27 years old garnered corporate acquisition exceeding RM1.2 billion, used him in Gopeng but failed miserably and BN will fail again at PP using him. That Olympic silver medal is not going to change the tide going against BN way.

  23. #23 by I Malaysian on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 11:12 am

I can’t help myself but feeling disgusted with their action. It shows nothing else but their act of desperation for support.

So Chong Wei is there, Saiful is also there according The Star report. I just wish if Chong Wei could reject this offer for how some extremist insulted Chinese community out at Bar Forum.

    “CINA BABI BALIK CINA”

It is time for heroes like Chong Wei to say he is not for sale or bribed. Meanwhile I hope some rich people out there somewhere who could make up for the rejection of reward by Chong Wei (if that could happen)

Chong Wei, it is time for you and other Malaysian heroes to stand up for contributions Chinese have made to this country and it must not be sold for mere RM300,000.00.

  24. #24 by Toyol on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 11:12 am

This is expected from a bankrupt government. Any means to win. They use tax payers money to further their political goals. If Chong Wei do not play ball, not only will he lose his incentives but will be victimized as well in more ways than one.

Giving cash incentives is a bane to the sport. Sport mens and women should play to win because of their love of the game and not in anticipation of cash rewards etc. Perhaps it was the incentive that was going through Chong Wei mind when he lost concentration.

  25. #25 by HJ Angus on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 11:20 am

I think it is surely a desperate PR stunt.
Since he is being awarded the RM300k he really has little choice.
It should be interesting to see who is going to present the award.

I expect it will be Najib as he is trying to win the Chinese voters over. As a voter, it is just a waste of time for all.
The PM should have made the award and saved everyone the trouble.

LCW’s success in badminton shows that Malaysia can only do well in individual sports like Nicol David in squash. I think the team events like soccer are hopeless as too much meddling by politicians etc.

  26. #26 by monsterball on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 11:30 am

No matter what tricks UMNO have under their selves…….besides the low down sodomy charges…and the goodies Najib announced for Malaysian Chinese and Indians….at Permatang Pauh…they will not work…as that are their sickening hypocritical pattern..in all elections….always do things .. to find ways..how to win votes for UMNO……not for Malaysians to benefits at all.
Using Lee Chong Wei to convince Chinese voters in Permantang Pauh by-election? Are they nuts??
Well they are actually….never accepts Malaysians views or grievances…always living in dreamland….that they own Malaysia.

The design of china T-shirt which is without sleeve are better for their badminton players.
It helped Lin Dan’s T-shirt as his arm can move comfortably.
The design of T-shirt for our Badminton players is not flexible.
our lee chong wei has to struggle with the T-shirt sleeve and at the same time trying to fight the mighty lin dan.

China designers of the T-shirt are smarter than our designers.
in future, hope fully we have better designer for our T-shirt and hope fully they remember to design something without sleeve.

It seems as if chong wei does not quite appreciate the significance and impact of his action.

He is first and last a sportsman. He is not a politician. He has just only recently set foot on home-soil. And needless to say, he is still reeling from the happiness of earning a silver medal and, at the same time, he is feeling the sadness of not turning it into gold.

The UMNO idiots simply made use of his current emotion and sentiment.

Its a bad tactic. Any idiot (except those who brand themselves UMNO) could tell.

Simialarly only a third world mentality PM, DPM and ministers are so obseesed with a stupid allegation of sodomy by a U dropout.

I don’t it is fair to force Lee into the election issue. BN is taking advantage of the situation but one can hardly ask Lee to sacrifice all his efforts for the incentives annouced by the Gomen. It is our money, not BN’s! Hence, it is wrong on out part to drag Lee into it.
Sportmen deserve whatever incentives the country can offer as talents do not come often to our shore.

    Datukship for Chong Wei
    By PRISCILLA DIELENBERG

GEORGE TOWN: Penang will award a datukship to singles badminton player Lee Chong Wei who won the silver medal at the Beijing Olympics.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas will confer the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) which carries the title Datuk award on Lee, who hails from Bukit Mertajam, on Aug 30.

When contacted, Lee said he was “very happy” with the state government’s decision.

“I never expected a Datukship for a silver medal,” he said.

  34. #34 by max2811 on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 12:10 pm

  36. #36 by vchi on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 12:19 pm

I think the Datukship is a mistake. It always reminds me of the 1992 Thomas Cup team. Datukships, land, money all showered onto them.

In 1994 we failed to even get into the semifinals. We got eliminated tamely. Our badminton standards took years to recover.

Datukships and awards should be given after the career of the sportsman, to commemorate his career and reward his service to the country, not every time someone wins, or, lagi best, comes runner up in a major event.

how about those football players from selangor awarded with land and money for winning the Malaysia league Cup (which its results were controlled and manipulated by bookies)?
if will to compare to that, so it is better to award land to chong wei than to those selangor players.

  39. #39 by gofortruth on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 12:41 pm

A far better day to give the award would be 31.08.2008 to go along with our national day celebration to fortify national unity. Again this reflects the shallow mentality of UMNO but it is absolutely unthinkable that the other BN component parties can remain mum and go along with the silly idea of picking on a national sport hero to serve as a BN’s election tool, for all you know Chong wei may be is a diehard DAP or PKR supporter!
They should just give the award to Chong Wei on a suitable platform that involves all political parties & the rakyat.
It is then entirely up to Chong Wei’s personal decision which party he will canvass for in the up & coming PP by-election, if he wants to be involved at all in the 1st place.

i would rather see datukship went to misbun as his coach instead. it is coach who brings out a sportman potential, just like alex ferguson on beckham and ronaldo. badminton in malaysia used to have foreign coaches until recently, and when the top single managed to snap some medals, it is the player and not the coach misbun the contribution that is recognized …

Bad move by Lim Guan Eng and PR to award a Datukship to Lee Chong Wei.

This move only shows that Lee is being used by both parties in the PP bye-elections, so PR is no better.

We seem to give out Datukships so cheaply to every one these days. Everyone it seems can get one. The title has been devalued.

The sportmens and sportswomen will all feel embarassed if they get trashed in the on-going careers.

Too bad, guys!!! I can only pray that Lee Chong Wei will reject and boikot the offer if it is made before election. If Anuar / PR win, please give the reward to him. Of cos we want him to receive the reward but politically he personally must “see something”. IF PR WIN, please make sure that you agree to reward him with something more beautifful than this, but let’s suggest that the reward-giving ceremony is postponed.

What have you got to do now?

  50. #50 by trublumsian on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 2:26 pm

yep, these days the datuk title is taboo! the title and cronyism are analogous. through the years how many datuks have we seen hauled to jail, ran from prosecution, roiled in scandals, and caught on video in sex romps? foreign observers think the datukship is joke.

  51. #51 by boh-liao on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 2:38 pm

Giving LCW RM300K and a monthly RM3K pension is OK, since any sportsperson who wins a 2008 Olympic silver has been told of this carrot.

But to make LCW a Datuk based on this one achievement is not correct. Unlike Nicol, who has a brilliant and consistent record and a true world champion for more than once, he still has to prove his worth. We must not reward our sportsmen and women lavishly when their achievements are so-so and inconsistent.

Yes, Misbun must be rewarded for his contribution.

Yes, what about Tan Aik Huang and Tan Aik Mong for their truly world-class performances way back in the 1960s and 1970s?

so NOW chong wei is seen as a hero of ALL malaysians regardless of his ethnicity?? what happened to chinese need not apply because u got a wrong skin color? now that he’s got the silver medal, he is one of yours??

frankly, i don’t think chong wei should be given a datukship, IF the title is meant for outstanding sacrifices or contribution for the country. don’t get me wrong, chong wei is great. what he’s accomplished is beyond any of the other 20 million malaysians could and deserves the accolades and recognition. the money is well earned too. but it’s sports we’re talking here. would we grant datukship to every person who died for the country? our soldiers and firefighters don’t sacrifice more than a sportsman? on the other hand, the datuk title is so tainted, bestowing it on chong wei is insulting! if one looks at it that way.

anyways, if we’re so obsessed with our sports achievers, we COULD have build better facilities, hire better coaches, offer better prize monies, and run better programs. oh yeah, we don’t have the money! the bloody blood suckers got in the way! and did we ever wonder why australia, with its population smaller than that of malaysia’s, sent a jaw dropping 450 athletes to beijing? because they could. we could not. and why??

to be fair, let’s look at chong wei contender in olympic “who could” pose serious threat:

Chong Wei Lee (MAS) bt Ronald Susilo (SIN), rank > 10
Chong Wei Lee (MAS) bt Kestutis Navickas (LTU), rank > 10
Chong Wei Lee (MAS) bt Sony Dwi Kuncoro (INA) , rank 5
Chong Wei Lee (MAS) bt Hyunil Lee (KOR), rank 10

he’s ranked world no #2, and in the past he had beaten lin dan before. and b’coz he got number 2 again in olympic, he got datuk.

  59. #59 by trublumsian on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 3:15 pm

melurian, feels weird i’m agreeing with u lcw should not be made a datuk.. but our rationale differ, and boy am i glad. u’r just jealous despite preferential treatment no malays come close to getting a medal in these games ;) and u’r the only one who thinks the coach is greater than the player. ask anyone in the sports world, the coach is at best 20% reason for the success. that said, misbun IS indeed a great singles coach. if he’s good enough for lcw, he is good enough for us. but no, the medal is about lcw, not misbun.

  60. #60 by HJ Angus on Wednesday, 20 August 2008 - 3:25 pm

I agree the player is definitely greater than the coach.
Elena Isinbaeyever the top woman pole vaulter just changed her coach and set a new world record and IIANM Roger Federer does not even have a coach.

For LCW he was thoroughly beaten by the finals – simply no contest.
Maybe the reward was too distracting and Malaysian sportsmen lack that vital “fight to the death” spirit.
You notice this great fighting spirit among world class players – they can come back even though you think they have lost the match.

The UK cycling champ Chris Hoyr says that you must not let the thought of victory distract you but focus on the tack at hand.

The two, believed to be from Parti Keadilan Rakyat, were detained.

If true, so fast PKR politicians are behaving like BN politicians. Sad, sad, sad!

If true, will the two PKR politicians jump ship before 26.8.08 or 31.08.08 to become BN politicians to save their own skins and ill-gotten riches? In the process, Perak reverts to BN majority and BN state government!

    Interesting days ahead!

Will Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (BN – Pasir Salak) and Lilah Yassin (BN – Jempol) accuse LCW of going down so tamely and not trying his best against his final opponent from China?

Will the mob that stormed the Bar Council half-day forum on conversion to Islam yell at LCW to ‘Balik Cina’?

So, when do Umnoputras and their ultras regard LCW as a towering Malaysian? When do they regard LCW as a 2nd class or 3rd class pendatang or babi?

This was said in jest at a dinner last night.

Some bright spark said that LCW was silly. He had the RM1 million in his grasp and opted for only RM500,000. “Just half,” said this guy.

Back came the repartee: “Actually the Chinese Government offered him RM5 million to lose to Lin Dan. So, LCW collected five-and-a-half times by losing. He ain’t silly!”

    In jest only.

    Dear YB LKS,

My heartiest congratulations to Lee Chong Wei for winning the Silver for Malaysia & his Dato’ship award form the Penang TYT Governor tonight after receiving the Federal rewards in Parliament earlier.

Rightly so, Penang must show the way to “Reward” ANY “Towering Malaysian” (Anak Bangsa Malaysia !), who have achieved & contributed towards this nation in a “Positive” way.

Being a Penangite, his achievement through “Blood, Sweat, Tears & Passion” under Misbun Sidek speaks volumes for Penang & Malaysia.

I was honoured to have met & spoken to Dato’ Eddie Choong & his brother Dato’ David Choong who won the Thomas cup THEN, – our Pioneers in the World Batminton arena, who brought glory to Penang & Malaysia in the early days of this nation.

After Datuk Nicol David’s achievements for her World Squash standing, this is yet another crowning glory for Malaysia & especially for Penang.

Just how many of us can have the same “Determination, Dedication, Perseverence, Excellence & Passion” to ACHIEVE and constantly STRIVE to do BETTER ?

As they say “Talk is cheap” & these young Towering Malaysians (Anak Bangsa Malaysia !) toghether with many others have “Walked their Talk”.

Yes, they are the TRUE Towering young Malaysians (Anak Bangsa Malaysia !) who have ACHIEVED & definitely a Positive Role Models for all our young Malaysians to emulate – Meritocracy & not Mediocracy.

The dawn of a new Malaysia for Malaysians (Anak Bangsa Malaysia !) will come soon…where EVERY Malaysian citizen can DREAM of, be GIVEN the OPPORTUNITY to work hard towards it & ACHIEVE the “Malaysian Dream”.

Let us all not be DISTRACTED by other ISSUES , DEVIATIONS, etc…to concentrate the Permatang Pauh P44 seat to ensure the BN, UMNO & the “Powers-that-be” are eliminated towards oblivion.

For now until the polling day, Let us all UNITE, FOCUS, STRATEGISE & ACT aggressively but WISELY towards this DESTINATION to WIN this P44 seat.

May God continue to Bless & Protect you & the many other “Defenders of Truth, Justice & Freedom” for Malaysia & its rayaat in our nation’s struggle to that “Destination Dream”. Insha’Allah.

it was just not very long ago that only very deserving cronies are conferred by now …. Ringgit pun Boleh ! Malaysia Boleh !
Anyway, LCW really earned it and his Dato’ sets him apart from others. even Dato Seri or Tan Sri or Tun etc.

Soon, in the evenings in hotel makan place, during buka puasa time, throw a spoon pun boleh kena a datuk. Be careful.

Now the trend is to be a Doktor and Professor! Ya, Dr or Prof or better still Prof Dr!!

Our honorable (but can be trusted kah?) OCBC (Orang Cina Bukan Cina) Arif Shah Omar Shah has a diploma (in Civil Engineering?) from Federal Institute of Technology (FIT, almost like MIT) and pandai-pandai has found a short-cut way to be a PhD candidate of Edison University of Technology. Amazing, just like 3 in 1 instant kopi (here Bachelor degree, Master degree, and Doctorate – 3 in 1 after Diploma)!

Now OCBC Arif Shah Omar Shah claimed that he realised that Edison University of Technology is a ‘wild cock or wild hen’ university (one that exists on the Internet and one that gives out degrees with one hand and accepts $$ with the other hand).

He is now looking for another PhD awarding university!! Ai-say, OCBC, how about our OUM (Open University Malaysia)?

Apparently OCBC Arif Shah Omar Shah had also ‘mengikuti pengajian khas di Graber International, California, USA’. (http://www.arifshah.com/about.aspx)
Can anyone enlighten us on this?

    Dear YB,

Its time to expose more BN government corruptions. ACA has only charged the boss of the immigration and a few others so far.
It seems it is only  a mokery.  There are many other culprits who also must be brought to justice.
Many/ Most of the outsourcing companies belong to BN/ UMNO cronies.
It is time to go after them.
At the same time, PR must ensure these culprits cant leave this country. Many of them will be leaving Malaysia on Augyst 27.
We the rakyat cant just let them leave like that.
These outsourcing bosses have sucked all the blood of the immigrant workers. Even many professional immigrants are victims of these cronies and also imig officers. malaysian immigration and customs are among the most corrupted in the world. It is time to bring these culprits to book.
    * We must also go after all the runners and agents- both Malaysiansd and foreigners. Each outsourcing company employ/ pay commissions to dozens of foreign runners/ agents / subagents. Many of these foreignes have cheated their own countrymen with the help of UMNO / BN cronies.

I don’t understand the obsession with honorary titles like datukship etc. If I were him, if I’m free to refuse, I’d refuse any such titles. It is time as a country and as a people we shed this feudal mindset.

It is a personal triumph and an honor for me just to be able to represent my country in the Olympics. I would accept the check and the pension but the real honor is when a special trust fund of some kind is started in my name to support the game of badminton, a game to which I have given my all and my best, in particular and sports generally.

But please keep your consience clear,do not ever let this racist UMNO putras to put a price on your head just to further their dirty political ambitions.Remember we the so called `pendatangs’ become Malaysians only when we achieve something commendable in the international arena, otherwise we are identified with the most painful, racist and derogatory terms as what happened at the recent failed Bar council forum.

To think of the RM40 million land scam, it has been around even before the 2004 election.

All was kept quiet on the Western front. Even the mass media did not breathe a word of it, before it landed in Court. They can actually report the proceedings. But until recently, a lapse of so many years, they were quiet. Why? How?

Koh Tsu Koon, that self-acclaimed “loyak buruk,” alluded to the sub judice rule. What he did not tell us is what he did or failed not do to resolve the matter before it snowballed into a RM40 million problem. He owes Penangites big time as the problem threatens to snowball in ringgit terms!

Tell that Ph.D (Education) or whatever holder that if he is a “loyar buruk,” I am a “lagi loyar buruk” since I have an LL.B after my name.

And I also saw our PM wearing the Scout uniform in the evenig news. Yes, he was a troop leader in his time, but what has he done for Scouting? Was he a party to the taking over of the land that used to be Jubilee Camp?

Now, Koh Tsu Koon, what happened to Jubilee Camp? It was supposed to be developed so many years ago. Why is it still barren after being bought by “interested parties” so many years ago?

Koh, even if you get an arahan dari atas, you still made that decision. Don’t blame anyone, even if they phoned you earlier. Take it like a man and don’t pass the buck around. It ended with you when you were Chief Minister.

Now I will go tulipping …

Don’t follow what they tell you. It borders on the feudalistic.

In the West, if you are a Professor, we just call you a Prof. Sometimes, they even invite you to just call them by name, if you can successfully establish the rapport.

And when you write to them, please do not address them as (1) Prof. Dr So-and-So, just a plain and simple (2) Prof. So-and-So.

Like almost all Malaysians, I did (1), and was politely told that the Westerners like to be addressed as (2).

So, there is no need to go the distance and address them as Tun Tan Sri Datuk Seri Datu Prof. Dr So-and-So, unless you are addressing a pathetically fixated Malaysian, who is probably using all these to hide what psychologists call his or her character deficiency!

Even Chong Wei himself suprise and i beleive in this mind, he would think, 1 silver medal can also deserve a datukship? I think he thinks he didn’t deserve it. In Malaysia, reputations can be made and unmade. Look at the classic example of Anwar Ibrahim. A Deputy Prime Minister one day and, two weeks later, he was given the famous black eye.

Only in Malaysia can reputations be made and unmade, thanks to our compliant mass media.

In other countries I have been to, they take you on your character, not even on your qualifications.

The difference is this: Character is innate, Reputation is ornate.

Try as they will, no one can take away your innate character, but they can certainly take away your ornate reputation … any time.

So, do we still to decorate ourselves with a datukship, a tan sri title or a tunship?

I smiled and thought to myself WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD a la Louis Armstrong when I saw a tomb on top of which was written in full Tan Sri Datuk Seri So-and-So, together with all the letters after the dead man’s name.

Will anyone bother about all these wherever that joker is going?

The issued here is not a matter of “fodder” or the “datuk” ship being created. It is regards to our sport education system in the whole.

Chong Wei has done very well & he deserves the medal for his own glory.

But I think he will be in a difficult situation. The Datuk-ship is awarded for his winning an Olympic silver but will politicians use it for political mileage?

If he is ‘forced’ to champion for BN, would he gain the respect from opposition supporters? If he doesn’t, will the Datuk-ship be withdrawn?

When the time comes, will he champion for what is right or will he do the bidding of BN out of obligation? I think it is going to be a tough decision for him.

True, true, and after having been exhibited as prized animals by their political masters, Koo-Tan went downhill into oblivion. Will LCW suffer the same fate, after being manipulated by the cursed hands of Umno?

I read somewhere that one of our local universities (not OUM) has recently dished out a pHD to a top UMNO politician? Maybe our good friend and PP MP wannabe can try this U?

Dear Tulip Crescent – Do be careful! When in Malaysia, do as Malaysians do. And the culture here is blind ampu or bodek. Shiok u, shiok me. Everyone happy, happy.

You know, our BN politicians, civil servants, VCs, and academics love long titles or tails at the front and back of their names.

Once upon a time, we had Kaptain Datuk Prof. Dr. Hashim Yaakob or Bill Board Kaptain Datuk Prof. Dr. Hashim Yaakob (UM) and now we have Lt. Kol. Prof. Datuk Dr. Kamaruzaman Hj. Ampon (UMS) and Dato’ Seri Prof. Dr. Ibrahim bin Abu Shah, PJN, SPSK, DCSM, DPMK, DPMS, PGBK, DMSM, JBK, DNS, PBS, BCM (UiTM).

Do we realise that in Malaysia the favourite past time is to dig through the arrays of head and tail of a person’s name (especially the so-called VIPs) in order to get at the person’s actual given name?

A tiring past time indeed, so much so that after having got hold of someone’s name, we have to take some time off to recover. So, relax lah. That’s our culture.

Also, in all official functions, the MC invariably spent 10 to 15 minutes to address all the so-called VIPs there, like saying Yang Mulia …….., Yang Amat Berhormat …….., Yang Berhormat …….., Yang Berbohong ………. etc. An exercise that wastes lots and lots of manhours!

No wonder, AAB always ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz …….

I read a very good comment in Mamakthir’s blog. The mamak was lamenting about corruption in UMNO. One commenter said that it wasn’t “corruption”. It was simply “dedication” or “dedikasi” in UMNO language.

    Dedikasi = Daddy Kasi.

Pls go to: http://themalaysianinsider.com/ and you will see a picture of Chong Wei being politically exploited. He is seen sitting on stage while Ariff Shah is seemingly telling the whole of Malaysia here is an example of a non-Malay given fairness and justice. What an utter lot of ballshit. This boy is a product of competition, not spoon feeding and subsidy.
Dear Chong Wei, we admire and adore you for your fighting spirits, but pls dun become a stooge and fodder for racist UMNO. You won the silver medal for MALAYSIA and ALL MALAYSIANS – and certainly NOT for this race-based party. All

BN will use all means to win Permatang Pauh, not to mentioned the Election Commission’s “power” to summon the dead to vote.

LCW should really try to be smarter in order not to be manipulated by the BN.

If he is out of ideas on how to do that (the same way he was out of ideas against Lin Dan in the final), he can consider wearing shirts with ‘C4’ painted on the front and back the next time he finds himself in a photo session with the jokers.

DAP and PR must have principle too. Don’t be like the BN, simply recommending titles to be dished out to people with minor and inconsistent achievements.

LCW had won an Olympic silver and he was well rewarded financially. That’s fine and he deserves it, ‘cos the reward was clearly announced before the Games started.

Silver is not Gold. LCW is not the World Champion. LCW is not the best in the world of badminton (men), unlike Nicol who is the best in the world of squash (women) and wins titles consistently. LCW is still young and he should be encouraged to reach for the sky.

LCW can be rewarded with a Datukship later. Why the hurry?

By bestowing a Datukship to a person who is not the best in his field of endeavour and still early in his career, the Penang State Government is setting a bad precedent. How can the State not bestow a Datukship to another similar mediocre achiever later? Kangkong datuk!

Likewise, a number of PKR and DAP Perak state assemblymen so quickly and greedily accepted titles (just because they were elected by the rakyat during the last GE), before they even started to serve the rakyat properly and before they show us their capability, is shamefully wrong!

We have to ask ourselves: Are DAP, PKR, and PAS politicians any different from Umno, MCA, MIC, Gerakan, etc politicians? Are they all just political animals?! Do they walk the talk?

Boh-liao,How right you are,The old guards from DAP must always remind its newly elected YBs not to get carried away. They must not only be clean, they must also seen to be clean.
PR YB,s must know that all eyes are on them.Even if they pick their nose in public ,it will come out in all MSM.

    ktteokt and bohliao

I contrasted a datukship, tan sri title or tunship (and therefore reputation) against character.

I said that awards are ornate while character is innate.

Now let me contract the awards against academic qualifications.

Awards are ascribed while academic qualifications (not the Ph.D type of Arif Shah) are attained or achieved.

    Therein lies the basic difference.

LCW don,t have a choise,If LCW do not follow what UMNO led BN government says ,He can kiss his future goodby. As ELECTED OPPOSITION YBs you guys can,t get the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to give what is rightly yours .
How do you expect people like LCW to not follow BN instructions.

I’m sad that this govt and the so call Malay defenders see it fit to push aside our King. by right the King is the head of the country and his majesty should be invited to give the award to Chong Wei.The money is given by the govt and using tax payers money thus his majesty should be the right person to do that. The King is above politics and so is sports. So the jaguh ketuanan Melayu are the ones showing disrespect to our King!!! :(

    Daulat Tuanku!!!

and really we do not need all these datukship for this young folks. Give them some award without titles. anyway datukships are not well looked upon.

There are many ways to playdown successes and triumph of others and many ways to paint and over do the same.
in bolih land it is very common to among some of us, who do the hard work and somebody else gets the credit.
Many of these comes in by helicopter or elevators or just becomes your immediate superiors.
So it was not really suprising in bolihland you get bullied like that.

As far as the recent success in badminton is concern by this bright penangnite, he is absurdly being given a taste of the same which happen to many of bright people in boilhland since last 20 odd years.

But most absurd is that why the precedent was not followed, if the previous silver medalist get their recognition in the parliment then just maintain the standard lah, why the double standards,
