Battle Royale – Anwar to contest in Permatang Pauh

The battle royale is on.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will contest in Permatang Pauh in a by-election to return to Parliament after a decade’s absence, following the resignation of Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as MP for the seat.

This has just been announced by Anwar in a media conference.

A courageous decision but is it the best from a strategic viewpoint? The die is cast, DSAI must win or be consigned to political oblivion by a loss. And he must win by a crushing margin to give momentum to his Parliamentary comeback. This will be the mother of all political battles in Malaysia. Let no stone be unturned to welcome DSAI to Parliament.

Hope the BN goons will not implement their dirty tatics again during voting. Let everyone who love this country come out in force to vote for saudara Anwar so that justice can be done to all the cruel and bad things by the present government.

Does that mean the next in media is “Anwar arrested and charged in court” ??

    Let’s hope not!

  7. #7 by a-malaysian on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 3:47 pm

umno is pushing Anwar into desperation, and one can easily make many poor decisions and mistakes when desperated.

Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is the leader of PKR and not right to sacrifice her. The sodomy case is not over and Anwar may still goes to jail if umno push harder to make sure of it.

Should Anwar goes to jail, then what happen, there will be no leader in PKR. Although there are many capable of taking over, but the voice and strength will not be that great and strong.

    Blood-Suckers

GE 13 – No matter what, we must ensure that racist umno bn do not regain the power like they had for the past fifty years.

To all the patriotic people of Permatang Pauh. Destiny has arrived at your doorstep. Many will be envious. In DSAI, you have the finest Towering Malay that this Nation can be proud of. We need leaders who can be counted. Leaders who can reach down to the masses and yet when they stand on the global stage, they are not regarded as inferior. Anwar has demonstrated his superior intellect coupled with humility of the rarest kind. The entire Nation waits with bated breath as we await our new PM to rescue us all from the morass that this beloved Nation has sunk into. Enjoy the moment my fellow bro & sis.

Will we have to bear the sorrow of seeing DSAI behind bars even before they announce the date for by-election for Permatang Pauh? Something righteous must happen in this forsaken nation before total anarchy reigns.

  10. #10 by ch on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 3:58 pm

    Dear All,

We believe that Anwar’s sodomy case is now at a very advance stage and has reached the AG Chambers. We also believe that they are now looking through the investigation papers and will soon decide if Anwar is to be charged in court or otherwise. Anwar will not be able to offer himself for the by-election if he is to be charged in court. A by-election will still be called since Wan Azizah resigned from her post and she may stand on behalf of her husband then. The Pakatan Rakyat election machinery will take advantage of the arrest of Anwar (if he is arrested) to win votes and chances are Wan Azizah will be voted back in.

Either way, BN would never win in Permatang Pauh and it is an ingenius political calculation taken by PKR.

Abdullah tells The Associated Press in an interview today he has heard many stories about Anwar allegedly tempting government legislators “with monetary offers”.

Abdullah says if this proved true, it would “be the worst form of corruption to buy people to bring down the government that has been established by the will of the people.” – from the malaysianinsider website.

Abdullah hearing stories eh? What are these stories compared to the stories the rakyat have heard about AAB and BN? There cannot be any form of corruption worst than practised by Barang Naik.

The Associated Press interviews should have been smart enough to ask him back “And what about the stories that the world has heard about you, Prime Minister Abdullah?”

DPM says.. Now that the investigation papers had been sent to AG,s chambers DSAI is using this byelection as a cover up in his sodomy charge.
MIC says .. We will get the 3 million MIC members to campaign for BN.
MCA says we will postpone our on going party election so that all our members can campaign for BN.
PPP says.. The only way for BN to win, is to give the seat to a candidate from PPP.

  29. #29 by justice_fighter on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 5:24 pm

I don’t think it’s a wise decision for Wan Azizah to step down as MP at this stage. I’m sure there are many PKR MPs who are willing to give up their seat for DSAI.

I’m sure the UMNO-based police will arrest him within the next 2 days for the sodomy charge. UMNO is desperate and they will do anything to stop DSAI from being an MP. When this happens, both DASI and Wan Azizah will be gone, and it’ll be a one-stone-hit-two-birds win for UMNO!

    God Bless DSAI!!

The by-election will have a vote count of (all the voters less 1) in favour of PKR. The 1 vote is from the candidate himself…

Is advisable that BN do not come and challenge Anwar. They will loose until their pants drop and dont know where to bury their face.

Dont say you are not forwarn.

  35. #35 by KL Dude on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 5:43 pm

I got a feeling they will put him in jail after charging him in court, just before the by-election.

Even if he stands to contest in the by-election, he may end up like the Hindraf leader, winning while in detention.

One thing’s for sure, if Anwar goes to jail again, BN will have to pay a heavier price as the whole nation will be more sick and pist off with them. They may win now without realising they’re only digging their own grave for PRU-13.

  53. #53 by yhsiew on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 7:12 pm

I think PKR has made the right choice by vacating Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s seat to let Anwar participate in the by-election.

If the person who sacrificed his/her seat is other than Anwar’s family member, then UMNO will point finger at Anwar accusing him of “robbing” someone’s seat.

    Brilliant move by DSAI.

Since KULIM judgement has been postponed, PKR could no longer wait as the sodomy case could be ‘wrapped’ up soon and DSAI falsely charged once more. Now that he is contesting a by-election, the voters will be most sympathetic should he be falsely accused. Otherwise, he still wins their votes by maintaining his innocence all along. Furthermore, if I am a voter, my vote goes to him as the next PM of Malaysia.

Syabas DSAI and Syabas Pakatan Rakyat.

Anwar has little choice but to contest in a safe seat. A by-election is a very focussed thing and BN will use all its money and machinery to make Anwar lose but in Permatang Pauh, they can’t do much.

The danger is that if Anwar is arrested and cannot contest, Wan Azizah will not be able to contest as there is an election law that an MP who resigns will have to wait 5 years to contest again. This is to stop candidates from resigning to test their popularity.

But don’t worry, PP will not fall to BN even if PKR puts a monkey to contest against BN.

  65. #65 by Mr Smith on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 8:08 pm

How many of you agree with me on this?

I have this gut feeling that Anwar will NOT be arrested or charged!!
The Solicitor General will most probably say that the prosecution does not have a prima facie case or he might direct the police to plug some holes in the investigations. Case closed.
Anwar wins Permatang Pauh. And bingo! and we have a new government.
There is only so far this conspiracy can go. It has already gone to the ridiculously insane.
I am an Optimist, and I dream dreams.

  67. #67 by KennyGan on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 8:37 pm

I have a bad feeling that Anwar will be arrested and charged. This is how the people in power fights against their political foes – playing dirty is second nature to them. Furthermore, they have time and again demonstrated a contempt for public opinion.

Anwar is hoping desperately that with him contesting for a seat, the weight of public opinion will stay the conspirators’ hands but as I’ve said, these people are utterly ruthless and contemptuous of public opinion, believing they can do as they like.

What will happen then? Will we all rise up for Anwar? Will millions of us rally for his release and force the wicked ones to back down? It’s not about Anwar, it’s about the future of this country.

  68. #68 by hongsichuan on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 8:48 pm

The ex-MP of PP was only elected less than 6 months ago. Her resignation is merely to advance the ambition of one man to become PM. It appears that her role has just been to warm the seat of PP for him. The nation may not be in good shape, but I remain to be convinced that that one man is its saviour.

    1. He wants to come back with a LOUD BANG! What better way to do it; of course Permatang Pauh.

    2. This will show that he goes back to his own people.

    3. No other present PKR incumbent MP needs to vacate.

    4. Wifey can take a deserving rest.

This was what I predicted in my blog ( http://blackandwhite999.blogspot.com/2008/07/its-permatang-pauh.html ) on June 11 citing 4 reasons.

    1. He wants to come back with a LOUD BANG! What better way to do it; of course Permatang Pauh.

    2. This will show that he goes back to his own people.

    3. No other present PKR incumbent MP needs to vacate.

    4. Wifey can take a deserving rest.You see? It’s a win-win-win-win scenario!!

BN should seriously consider a walkover because Penangites will want a PM from Pulau Pinang state instead of Pahang or Johor.
There is no BN candidate that can assure that a win for BN will see a Penang PM after 2010.

Sending Ezam in will be asking for trouble as he is a Trojan despite all the sandiwara.

Going by the popularity of his blog, Mr. Chedek may stand a fighting chance though. Impossible is nothing in the battle of Royale.

i sense that the BN, police and AG will expedite in bringing the sodomy case to court soon and more dirty tricks.

BN will at all cost bring anwar down. it will be a mess soon in the political scene. it could either end anwar being back in parliament or in jail. I fear the latter being the case.

  77. #77 by kutlakut on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 9:59 pm

Is there any one here who dare to think that the AG will not charge Anwar because there is no case ?

    Can that happen?

  78. #78 by kutlakut on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 10:03 pm

Her resignation is merely to advance the ambition of one man to become PM. ….

Merely to advance the ambition of one man?

Gosh, you still don’t get it. The one man represent this one half of the nation’s hope of a new order.

  79. #79 by yhsiew on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 10:06 pm

His lawyer, Sivarasa Rasiah, said even if Anwar is charged now, it would not legally prevent him from running in the election unless he is convicted before nomination or voting day.
    ——————————————————————-

I hope there is enough time for Anwar to go through the by-election before the court convicts him.

Anyhow, even if Anwar cannot contest for the seat and PKR calls another guy to replace him, that guy can still win easily because PKR can always capitalize on Anwar’s sodomy and appeal for sympathy votes.

  82. #82 by Blue.kinetic on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 10:31 pm

  83. #83 by yhsiew on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 10:44 pm

Assume Anwar has won the seat and becomes the opposition leader and is jailed. We then have the following comparison:

Aung San Suu Kyi – the authorities, fearing they may lose power, put her under house arrest on the pretext she is a trouble maker.

Anwar – the authorities, fearing they may lose power, put him in jail on the pretext he is a sodomizer.

PR supporters can then request the UN to impose sanctions on leaders of the ruling party.

  84. #84 by The Enforcer on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 10:52 pm

A very gentleman’s way of getting into parliament. Wife gives way so as not to be seen as taking another’s seat. After all PP is where DSAI belongs to. Can’t see any GOON being a threat here.
Only fear is timing. Will those GOONS come up with anything to get DSAI with the sodomy case? That seat needs to be contested in 60 days. Is there sufficient time for DSAI?
Uncle Lim, if physical help is needed up there, please ring a bell. Am very much willing to volunteer!
May this be the FIRST step towards a united MALAYSIA for MALAYSIANS!

  85. #85 by zak_hammaad on Thursday, 31 July 2008 - 11:00 pm

It’s not that I don’t get it. I don’t place my faith in a politician. I don’t have even an iota of the faith you have in that one man. If he does become the PM one day, maybe on this coming 16/9 if what he has been claiming all along is true, I only hope that he would not dissapoint you and the nation one day, just as Ferdinand Marcos gave hope to the Filipino in the 1970s only to dissapoint them and be chased out in the 1980s.

Ezam dares to stand against Anwar in Permatang Pauh. Actually UMNO guys do not trust him at all. This traitor has become a desperado to prove his worth(lessness) to win their hearts. This could be the only chance for him to get a seat at the expense of Anwar Ibrahim. He could even come out with accusation that he too was sodomized by Anwar.

But I think his chance against Anwar is worst than putting a donkey. NO CHANCE.

Human nature will come into play here. The BN desperadoes will try all means to stop DS Anwar from achieving his goal. There is no doubt about it.

However this is not the end of the righteous struggle for a truely Malaysian Malaysia. If DS Anwar is arrested this time, we still have the 13th GE. I believe DS Anwar is still young and healthy.

Sun Yet Sen took so many years to overthrow the last Chinese emperor.

Let the wise people of Permatang Pauh teach BN a lesson and show their undivided support and political maturity.

As long as the citizens are matured and have wisdom, there is nobody in BN who can rule forever. They will topple one day!

  101. #101 by Al-Hujraat_13 on Friday, 1 August 2008 - 3:59 am

Yes. To People of Permatang Pauh, let’s send the message to BN that ENOUGH BS is ENOUGH BS. It’s all about the rakyat vs. BN or should I said UMNO in disguise.

But, all of us need to be very alert on BN and SPR playing up the dirty games again on issues pertaining to:
    (i) Phantom voters
    (ii) Postal votes
(iii) Those who votes more than once etc…

Lets’ there be a truly a “clean” and democratic elections! But let us get real! Since when did BN has been clean in it’s actions? Always expect the UNEXPECTED.

We, the rakyat need to be on high alert.

How I wish I’m a voter in Permatang Pauh!! Happy time is here again – Big fat income time!

For sure, all the big guns of the BN will visit PP and the BN will repair all the roads there, install street lamps, give money to churches, temples, schools, etc!

Every voter will be given a big fat ang-pow, sewing machine, washing machine, TV, batik, etc – anything, please ask!

Voters in PP: Get ready to accept all these goodies from the BN (it’s OK, ‘cos they are actually from the taxpayers), but remember to vote for PKR!

However, one major worry and question: Will there suddenly be a lot of postal votes?

  107. #107 by k1980 on Friday, 1 August 2008 - 11:12 am

You can bet your last pair of unwashed underwear that all the deceased from the surrounding graveyards around Permatang Pauh will suddenly be granted leave from Emperor Hades to vote for BN on polling day…..

  109. #109 by boh-liao on Friday, 1 August 2008 - 12:04 pm

Will Dr MM rejoin Umno to be the candidate to stand against AI in PP?

Or will Dr MM stand as an independent candidate (with candidate symbols comprising a cock, an ass, and a hoe)?
(Dear moderator: cock = cockerel or rooster, ass = a horse-like animal, hoe = a digging tool. Not materials to be censored. What were you thinking?)

  110. #110 by rainbowseahorse on Friday, 1 August 2008 - 12:27 pm

With the sodomy charges looming overhead like a dark cloud, I think the resignation of Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to make way for her husband Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to contest in Permatang Pauh in a by-election is NOT A GOOD move.
With so many uncertainties and many issues facing the PKR to resolve, the by-election might just turned into a fiasco and a further distraction for the PKR.

  111. #111 by rainbowseahorse on Friday, 1 August 2008 - 1:32 pm

To voters of Permatang Pauh: Remember to receive all money & goodies, dished out by the BN, with your Left Hand (if you are right handed) and vote with your Right Hand.. for PKR of course! This way, there is NO conflict of interest, yah!

  112. #112 by Al-Hujraat_13 on Friday, 1 August 2008 - 3:22 pm

Whether it is a good move or not, it doesn’t matters now. DS Wan Azizah has tendered her resignition and a snap election will be called for Permatang Pauh…

Just like what have been said by my fellow Malaysians, to all of Permatang Pauh residents. Take all of the goodies offered. It’s the rakyat’s money and hence it rightfully belongs to the rakyat. Take whatever that they give (RM, goodies etc.); but never vote for them.

For the sake of the nation, please DO NOT VOTE for them…
For the sake of our childrens, please DO NOT VOTE for them…

For GOD’s sake, have a clear conscience! Let us send a clear message to all of these bigots and despots; Enough is enough…
