No confidence motion – will incipient revolt by BN MPs in support of Yong Teck Lee be crushed by BN SC emergency meeting?

Following the bombshell by Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Yong Teck Lee yesterday announcing that its two MPs Dr. Chua Soon Bui (Tawau) and Eric Enchin Majimbun (Sepanggar) would move a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, many questions are swirling for answer, including whether it is possible for a no confidence motion to be moved in Parliament on Monday when it looks procedurally impossible as up to yesterday no such notice of motion had been submitted to Parliament.

In fact, although a proper motion of no confidence has not been submitted to date to Parliament, it is not impossible to duplicate a no confidence vote in Parliament on the Barisan Nasional government on Monday.

Whether a no confidence motion could be moved, debated and voted upon in Parliament on Monday, however academic it appears, is however not the foremost question created by Yong Teck Lee’s announcement yesterday.

The most important question from the SAPP action, which has dealt another mortal blow on the Barisan Nasional government after the March 8 “political tsunami”, is:

Will the declaration by the two SAPP MPs of no-confidence in Abdullah as Prime Minister trigger support from other BN MPs in Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia or will the incipient revolt by disaffected BN MPs be crushed with SAPP expelled by BN today with the engineering of a SAPP Baru?

The Barisan Nasional supreme council will be holding an emergency meeting in 90 minutes’ time at 2.30 pm over Yong Teck Lee’s shock announcement yesterday.

Even if SAPP is expelled from Barisan Nasional and a SAPP Baru engineered from SAPP elements who dissociate themselves from Yong Teck Lee’s action, and the incipient revolt of the other disaffected BN MPs from Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia snuffed out with a “regime of white terror” by a show of power and intimidation, the Barisan Nasional government will only further alienate itself from the support and sympathy of the people of Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia by ignoring the long-standing popular grievances of Malaysians all over the country.

It may be just an academic exercise. It may be shot down at the first instance. The Speaker has total power. You cannot do anything about it. Before SAPP puts up the motion, the Speaker would have his reasons to shoot it down.

But the fact that it is announced and the Malaysian Public is aware that a no confidence motion against Badawi is taking place is embarresment enough for Barisan Nasional. It is a shame for Badawi. The pressure is important.

I still say, BN will collapse in a month.

  2. #2 by rainbowseahorse on Thursday, 19 June 2008 - 1:29 pm

The question is: Who, within UMNO, will dare to be the first to take the plunge and follow through with what SAPP has set in motion?
I am quite sure those UMNO MPs are busy checking and rechecking their political risks..all wanting to be the first, but scared to take what might amount to a political suicide plunge.

I am very surprise at the inactions of those in UMNO who were very vocal in wanting exactly what SAPP has announced. Guess they are assessing and reassessing the consequences before making their moves.
If it turn into a sudden deluge of UMNO’s MPs all jumping in at the same time, then the end is nigh for old Pak Lah who can then rest to his heart’s content.

It is just games that politicians play.
I don’t think the PM will be defeated by a vote of “no confidence” but of course the heat is becoming quite high in the kitchen.

UMNO seems to be caught in some paralysis; especially with TDM and TR playing “get rid of AAB”.

Yong Teck Lee said, “BN is no longer in Sabah.”

What does it mean? First, the spirit of Barisan is no longer felt in Sabah. Secondly it could mean, BN is no longer respected in Sabah. Thirdly, Sabah component parties have rejected BN.

What ever the meaning is, Captain, I concur, BN will collapse within a (1) month.

  6. #6 by rainbowseahorse on Thursday, 19 June 2008 - 1:52 pm

    oknyua,
What Yong meant is that the spirit of the BN is not in Sabah politics because UMNO Sabah is the one and only all powerful and domineering political party. BN is just a name and might as well be changed to simply “UMNO” as all the other BN component parties are insignificant and, in UMNO’s view, unnecessary.

Latest news – “SAPP not invited to BN emergency meeting”, the said meeting was chaired by AAB and with the exclusion of SAPP, it could mean SAPP is no longer a component of BN and they may face the risk of being kicked out and their MPs will face the disciplinary actions eventually. That’s how our government will react when there is anyone trying to oppose or disagree with their policies!!!! YTL may even be detained under ISA for such a no-confidence vote movement as it creates an instability to the politics in Malaysia!!!!!! Watch out on the next move of our PM.

    Dear All,

This is a well thought out game plan from Yong Teck Lee (YTL) and probably a few others acting behind concert as someone will have to make the first move. The first move will enable them to move the other chess pieces around and gauge the reaction from BN. This is a revisit to pre-1990 General Election when PBS turned its back on Dr. Mahathir which euphorically prompted Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah to boldly replied a reporter that Gagasan Rakyat (GR) will be forming the next Federal Government. He was sorely miscalculated and YTL quickly issued a comment after GR’s defeat that politics in Sabah will never be the same again. With the benefit of hindsight, nothing had really changed if YTL’s comment were to be taken seriously. What changed was that he left PBS later and became the Chief Minister. It is unfair for me or any other to credibly judge YTL but his political reputation appears to be quite smelly judging from his past records. Can we safely apply an old adage that a leopard will never change its stripes on YTL?

We should watch out on the two other UMNO members who declined appointment to be Deputy Ministers by PM AAB as their moves would seriously build up an avalanche of desertions by Sabah politicians. Having said that, we should also beware of the emergence of a dark horse like PAS suddenly joining hands with UMNO. This will derail whatever plans that Anwar may have on BN as the table will then be turned on him or YTL for that matter.

Hadi may be the new Deputy PM and miracle happen …!

Who is holding the ace in this poker game after YTL throwing his card on the table yesterday?

Yeah, cut off the arms of those UMNOputras who have stolen the rakyat’s money, from APs, to one-sided concessions, to lopsided contracts, to shoddy delivery of the end product. Stone the UMNOputras who talk and talk and never deliver. Cut off the tongues of those who make promises and never deliver.

But then we are a country of laws, and the thieves should just be tried in court and put in jail if found guilty. We the rakyat are civilised people.

  21. #22 by i_love_malaysia on Thursday, 19 June 2008 - 4:02 pm

I dont think that the no confidence motion will be allowed by the Speaker in the first place and it will just stop there.
If SAPP is expelled from BN, it would become an opposition party and YTL will join PR with the lame excuse that SAPP didnt quit BN, but was expelled for fighting for Sabah, so that it may rejoin BN one day if necessary and YTL is still in the good book of Najis i.e. he is not against BN but AAB leadership!!!
YTL failed to see or trying to deny that it is BN govt that has got problems and not just the PM leadership!!! the whole of BN is corrupted to the core and he was one of them all these while, but he cant say that there’s anything wrong with BN, as it will be like slapping yourselve on your own face!!!
He was the CM of Sabah at one time and yet he failed do much to improve the situation except enriching himself and his cronies!!! SEMUA BN SERUPA SAHAJA!!!
If PR needs SAPP to form the next govt , please be very very careful with YTL!!!

  22. #23 by rainbowseahorse on Thursday, 19 June 2008 - 4:04 pm

Frankly and realistically, Sabah is comatose and so does not matter who comes into power as long as that political party can, or at least promise to tackle all, or some of the problems plaguing Sabah. The migrants problem is just too huge for anybody to solve politically, legally, and humanely. We Sabahans know the real objectives of all those “champions” coming out of the woodworks to “save” Sabah.
So, what the hell can we do to better our lot?
    Prayers come to mind!

  23. #24 by i_love_malaysia on Thursday, 19 June 2008 - 4:11 pm

According to one of the SAPP demands i.e. 20% oil royalty, if Federal govt allowed that, Sarawak & Terengganu will also be asking the same percentage!!! the federal govt budgets will be in big trouble as it depends very much on the oil income!!!

  24. #25 by Cinapek on Thursday, 19 June 2008 - 4:19 pm

SAPP is just fishing in trouble waters. They know AAB is vulnerable now and SAPP hopes by pressuring AAB, they will get some goodies. They disguise their true intentions by trying to hide behind their seemingly noble claims of fighting for Sabahans.

I am no AAB or BN supporter but to me, I have my doubts what value add can SAPP make by moving this motion unless they have enough support or is able to act as a catalyst to trigger off a mass exodus of BN lawmakers. Maybe that is what SAPP is gambling on. Status quo they have no relevance and no clout with BN. But by gambling on being the party that trigger the BN downfall, they hope to be recognised by whoever comes to power and be amply rewarded.

  26. #27 by Same story, different day on Thursday, 19 June 2008 - 4:27 pm

The point is all 3 oil producing states are still under BN control. Even if all of them get the 20%, so what, it is the left pocket to right pocket thing. At the end of the day, the ordinary people on the street will not see the money and continued to be plundered by the state wolves. And Anwar is depending on the same wolves to defect over to form a new government. I’m not opposing to PR, as I had said before, the choices being offered appeared to be limited, it’s either BN or PR, we have to choose the less evil among the evil. Will Anwar will able to control the hungry BN wolves and ensuring they will not continue to squander the nation and state wealth? Of course now PR is the only party appeared can bring changes and hope to the country, as like back in 1994 BN appeared to be offering hope to Sabah to topple the greedy PBS government, but the result is the same as BN continued to milk whatever is left with the states, after years of squandering by USNO, Berjaya and then PBS. My advise to Anwar is to be extremely careful with the BN goons defecting over or else, we are back to square one and the result is the Rakyat being screwed in the end.

Sadly, the Rakyat are the ones always been screwed.

What is Yong Teck Lee’s crime? What crime did he do that warrant the confisation of his passport? Is diversed political view a crime? Then all posters here have committed the same crime. YB Lim KS is also committing a crime because he does not subscribe to BN’s racist policies.

How would the Hudud Law apply to his case? I am not a lawyer, but when it comes to comparative theology I think I am better qualified.

  28. #29 by yhsiew on Thursday, 19 June 2008 - 5:06 pm

BN’s high-handedness is seen in many areas of its administration e.g. suppressing media freedom, detaining protesters and demonstrators, muting dissident voices (notably those from MCA) etc. It is therefore not difficult to see that action will be taken against MPs Dr. Chua Soon Bui (Tawau) and Eric Enchin Majimbun (Sepanggar). Ms Teresa Kok probably has got it right in today’s China Press. She said even before the two MPs could move the motion of no confidence against Pak Lah, they were already punished!

If I were YTL, surely I would work with other disgruntled MPs from Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia to get their agreement to participate in the no confidence motion before pushing ahead as “one big force”. SAPP is a small party, Mr Anwar is in a better position to liaise with disgruntled MPs to push for the no confidence motion.

You are right, Kit, in order to preserve their cozy, comfortable life styles, the BN government is prepared to alienate itself from the support and sympathy of the people of Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia by ignoring the long-standing popular grievances of Malaysians all over the country. After all, the BN government is well-known for its stubbornness to change and reform.

Things not in favour of PM and BN are hapenning one by one. The moves done by PM and BN itself (fuel price hike, remedies, inadvertant exposure of entertainment allowances of ministers, etc.) did not go down well with the rakyat. Divine intervention or BN running out of luck and their days numbered? Yesterday itself the Sanglang seat was declared vacant (BN will not be in the mood for a by-election considering the current political climate) and the SAPP stance.

Incidentally former MB of Perak Tajol Rosli said that if there were to be a snap election in the country, BN will get a bigger majority. He must have been in Mars with the NASA exploration all this while.

The ‘accidental revelation’ of 12 new dams to be built in Sarawak is cause for concern. Other than environmentalists being alarmed, the rakyat should be concerned about the indigineous people, the natural habitat, and possible wastage to cater to multinational companies and the pockets of cronies.

Stand up Sabahans if your leaders don’t! If you’ve been elected under the BN umbrella, it is immoral to crossover to PR for personal gains. But it is even more immoral if you don’t take the leap when your people will you to. That means you are not being a true leader but an opportunist and a coward!

In the meantime, what is happening to the leaders of Sarawak? Have they been “Taib” down? Sarawakians have thus far been deafeningly silent…eerie if I may say so. I could be wrong but I can’t seem to find any threads on Sarawakian’s opposition to years of being buggered raped and plundered by the powers that be.

  53. #54 by shortie kiasu on Thursday, 19 June 2008 - 9:51 pm

SAPP itself has not make any decision as a party, as Yong teck Lee is going to hold their Supreme council meeting only later. That means the party as whole has not made any decision on what Yong said. In a way Yong is junping the gun. If its supreme council cannot come to a consensus, then SAPP itself will be in trouble with internal split to look after.

Let’s see the drama unfold next week. We do not think there would be any earthquake, may not be a minor tremor at this stage.

But SAPP’s act has already caused the fright in BN. After the meeting today, UMNO Sec Gen had asked all BN MP to be at the Parliament to counter any motion of no confidence moved by SAPP or PR.

Other than initial jolt created, there would be any likely impact on the BN Government. Too bad. The strategy would not work in this instance.

  54. #55 by shortie kiasu on Thursday, 19 June 2008 - 10:02 pm

There are more than what that meets the eyes especially, knowing the calibre of Yong Teck Lee and his past antics. He is able to play David Copperfield for his own political end and his own benefits. Not much weight can be assigned to his antics.

But in Sabah, anything can happen in their mode of politics; that is their outrageous principles of politics. It is very hard to predict or define their culture of loyalty. Their perception and meaning of loyalty is quite surprisingly different from the norm.

As mentioned in the Quran book quoted:
“Any insulting remarks from a poor learnt and evil minded person should be ignored, otherwise the kind respondent will falls into the trap of the evil enemy. ”

As mentioned earlier by your Sabahans’ email that SAPP had raised 14 points of demands given to Pak Lah. All 14 points ended in the rubbish bin. You can read all14 points raised by SAPP from the earlier agenda on SAPP Bombshell in LKS’s blog. here.

We, PR Malaysians felt very sad, pity, anger, emotion and disheartened that many Sabahans and Sawarakians have been marginalised, discriminated, sidelined and insulted by their own people in term of their welfare and Bumi rights as Malaysians. Have you visit and see the rural areas of both states? Also take a deep look at the real hardcore poor of Sabahans and Sawarakians. You will never believe your own eyes that Malaysia is a developing country and pursuing Vision 2020 can afford to let their own people suffer silently in their own rich natural resources land in both states.

We, Arabian engineers and professionals have visited and did several studies on the local people and surveyed their rich natural resources valued billions of USD in Sabah and Sawarak. We believed Sabahans and Sawarakians are damn rich people than the people in Peninsular Malaysia but shocked to read that Sabah is the poorest state in Malaysia. Where are billions of funds from petrol and natural resources have been misused, mismanaged and missing from Sabah ? Why small handful of Sabahans are super rich people? Worst scenario that you can see the invasion of illegal migrants from neighbouring countries are increasing over the years and the Project IC had legalized the migrants to topple the local Sabahans today. Maybe the legal migrants will call for a spilt from Malaysia and unite with their motherlands nearby if their population is beyond control in next coming 50 years. SAPP leaders have seen and listened to the calls of the local Sabahans but ignored by the Federal govt. SAPP actions for vote of no confidence against the Master is timely to wake him up from his corridor dreams in a comfort slumberland. What a SHAME ?

Let PR Malaysians and foreign investors joined hands together with all Malaysians regardless of races, religions and cultures to save and help the people of Sabah and Sawarak as well as all states in Malaysia. Let the middle class and poor class people protest against prices hike of all goods and services across the board and inflation hike in Malaysia.

Rich biz people are laughing all the way to the Banks, Poor people are crying all the way to the Graveyards soon!! Do you believe it or not !! Do a price survey of all goods and services today 2008 and compared them with the prices of same calendar month of last year 2007. You will be shocked that ringgit was devalued almost 20% to 30% in inflation term and value of ringgit has fallen deeply compared with other neighboring countries like Singapore, Australia and NZ. For instance, today forex exchange quoted: SGD1 = RM2.38, 1AUD = RM3.09 and 1NZD = RM2.48.

Are we getting richer or poorer today as compared with Singaporeans, Australians and NZealanders? No wonder smart Malaysia professionals prefer to serve in these countries for better compensation, fair education, good governance, low taxes and cheap goods cum services and better lifestyles of living.

How about our Arabian currency like Kuwaiti Dinar 1KWDinar = RM12.28? So the increase of fuel from RM1.92 per liter to RM2.70 per liter is peanut to foreigners and PR Malaysians leaving in KL. We pay RM2.70 = 0.22KWDinar per liter of petrol only is damn cheap for foreigners like us or Singaporeans are getting huge % discount in term of currency exchange in Malaysia.

We are enjoying our good lifestyles like HEAVEN in Malaysia as compared with the hot deserts in Arab countries. However, Malaysians are suffering on high inflation in prices and devaluation of currency in their own soil because of inefficiencies, ineffective, high corruptions, poor financial management and huge wastages of public funds and taxpayers’ monies. Who you blame ? What a BIG Shame ?

Slogan: MALAYSIA BOLEH is damn RIGHT. InsyAllah ….IN ALLAH WE TRUST.

Even a foreigner like Al-Sheikh is feeling the injustice meted out to Sabah n Sarawak but our leaders are blind. Forget about the 14 points being addressed. BN is not serious but merely paying lip service.

3 oil producing states are the poorest in Malaysia…you know which I’m talking about. Stop all the wastage, corruption and cronyism now! I’ve just read that 1200 APs will be given to a certain UMNOputra to bring in hybrid cars and they have the cheek to ask for subsidies.

Also Airasia is going to get HALF of all civil servant flight business. Can anyone name who are the UMNOputras that’s going to gain from this?

Why? Because they just won’t want to leave the gravy train. They are all having the good life. Why rock the train? The driver will give them some more gravy to stay on board.

The reason why I said that was because the trick used by PR is dirty. I challenge them to be more gentleman and don’t always act from behind. – Kasim Amat

What about the dirty tricks BN used against minorities for more than 50 years? Not only did minorities suffered when underhand tactics were used, even ur own race suffered. Can u provide proof that BN in particular UMNO walked on air hence their hands and feet are clean? Your ideals and beliefs will only push your own people backwards in reverse of civilisation. You are not segregating other races fr Malays but segregating your own race from the rest of the world. If u really understand the meaning of Globalisation, u would be working ur a** off fair n square to compete with the rest of the world or die trying (again fair n square) and not beg for handicap and if not given please don’t proceed to borrow or steal.

Anak Malaysia is not talking about race, but about the vast gap between the filthy-rich cronies and the poor rakyat, even amongst the same race. Clearly, Anak Malaysia touched on the truth, otherwise I don’t see why Kasim Amat should sound so pissed.

The funny thing is Kasim Amat talks like he is the one suffering. Oh, well. Perhaps cronies like him are indeed having a deservingly hard time these days.

We definitely need more forceful action from not only SAPP, but all other parties, to apply more pressure on the jokers in power. Down with the cronies!

It is a sad story for both Sabah and Sarawak for joining Malaysia. Just look at Brunei and Singapore to see the answer.

Sabah and Sarawak is being raped by Malaya till dry, all the oil and timber from the two states is being used to finance all the failed projects and also to feed all the Umno zealots.

Ask the Iban and Kandazan, they are being marginalized. Now the government even want to make the country into an Islamic state, did Sabah and Sarawak agree to join an Islamic state in the first place?

September 16 is a day for mourning, a day of shame for Malaysia.

  65. #66 by Jeffrey on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 4:32 am

PM is still Ok.. He has three things going for him.

    1. DSAI’s apparernt ineptitutde to organise a coup. Up to now only Yong Teck Lee/SAPP rebelled – there’s no en masse defections. I doubt DSAI co-ordinated or strategized with top leaders of DAP/PAS. And he has been leaking out his plans way ahead of time – what for??? And then he gets characters like Yong Teck Lee (hardly that politically popular or credible) to start the ball rolling. What a joke Yong couldn’t even get the entire SAPP to rally around him.. Instead he gets condescended to by BN Supreme Council that decided it was not worth the while to even sack SAPP for now! As Sheriff said, other component parties and to be defectors are mainly thinking of positions and the largese they bring (the gravy train) – so their main calculation is not just that UMNO/BN imploding with factionalim and self doubts but whether DSAI has the verve and ability to rally other forces to decisively and overwhelmingly win when it comnes to the crunch. So far the signs are not there.Weakness on DSAI’s part in planning and organisation of such a “coup” does not help especially if it is felt that Yong Teck Lee/SAPP are persuaded to come out open and then strung out and left to dry without others supposedly having stitiched deals with DSAI, joining in..

    2. His enemies/dissidents within UMNO/BN – whether they will join in with Opposition to vote against him.. Now I am sure they would had it been (say) an internal UMNO contest betwen Ku Li & him but it is not the case of Parliament. In Parliament a vote of no confidence if carried implies not just the PM should leave but the entire cabinet/government – which means the gravy train stops! So why would his enemies/dissidents within UMNO/BN help DSAI on Monday – unless significant numbers of them (and of crucial importance the Speaker) already had prior arangements with DSAI. That is posible but most unlikely. Why Speaker? Reason : He rules on whether motion may be allowed to be heard whether Standing Orders rules 18(1) or 27!

In this kind of uprising, time is of the essence, and procedure-wise, there is standing Order rule 27 by which motion, if allowed, may be heard 14 days later, and the other an emergency motion under Standing Orders rule 18(1) requiring only 1 day notice provided it satisfies three criteria — it has to be a definite matter, urgent and of public interest. Now that one day notice if not given on Thurday 19th June is already out of time for such motion (if allowed by Speaker) to be heard on Monday 23rd June! Now one may ask what is so important about Monday , if one cannot make it, then there are still the following Wednesday or even Friday? That is however not the point! We’ve got a group ‘brave’ dissidents in Yong/SAP who talked about a motion of no confidence on PM specifically on Monday. Nobody asks them to specify Monday. They did it on their own accord as if all plans are in place. And then no show on Monday! Where is the credibility when they cannot even deliver the date that they specified? Or that they showed lack of knowledge of standing orders? The “to be defectors” would shirk from throwing in their lot with a bunch of amateurs aspiring big dreams of a “coup” who don’t know what they’re talking about or doing, and whose date(s) for taking over government by cross overs & defections keep on shifting & changing! Whole thing may fizzle out if nothing happens to show that it could happen on September 16 as DSAI said.

The whole thing has a ring of incredulity. If I were a plotter to take over the government I certainly will not declare months ahead to my opponent the time and date I would depose him, thus giving him time to take preemptive and other actions against me. This does not make sense : you surprise your enemy and catch him off balance – you don’t tell him in advance which date you will be surprising him and catching him unaware because he is no more surprised and indeed waiting for you to surprise you then instead!

Al-Sheikh Ahmeed is indeed contributing positively to the betterment of this country by highlighting the relegation of the state of affairs under the present regime. Are we suppose to hold our peace at the blatant plunders of our nation’s wealth by the ruling elite while they pass the burden of economic degeneration to its citizenry?

Aiyah, Kasim Amat, you as a rakyat should be the one with a sizable knowledge of the irreparable damages caused by UMNO and their pathetic chronic cronies to this beautiful land of ours. Any wonder why the general perception here is that, you’re either a paid saboteur, a crony of the ruling party, a dinosaur having wet-dreams that ‘race supremacy’ will put food on your table without having to do a honest day’s work, or as Al-Sheikh Ahmeed mentioned, a shoe polisher looking for a window of opportunity to leech onto the footwear of someone who has privy to the Gravy Train.

If you are already rich, I can understand your stance. However, if you are just trying to make ends meet but still rally your support behind an extremely corrupt government, I shudder to think what would happen if you were one of our lawmakers holding high office. I’ll eat my own shoes before I ever want to meet up with someone like you. No wonder brains like yours are still the most expensive in the market. They are brand new !!!

    Hello, Poor Kasim Amat,

Kasim Amat replied with an insult remark said:
“As a PR you should contribute positively towards the racial harmony of this country instead of the other way round. We know you have a lot of money. Since you are not the one suffering please keep your mouth shut as this is the affairs of Malaysia, not yours.”

We, PR Malaysians cum Foreign investors wish to reply the “TRUTH” to all Malaysians here:-

    (a) “Racial harmony” – PR citizen and foreign investor are always kind and honest in mixing and communicating with all Malaysian regardless of their races, religions and cultures. Hence, we also develop good peaceful and harmony living in this multiracial societies with our affluent neighborhoods, friends and colleagues. We never see any races conflict in Middle East except territories conflicts between the Jews and the Muslims where the Jews want to invade and expand on the Muslim’s lands. Unfortunate, the racist card issue is badly used and played by greedy local politicians in Malaysia to victimized and marginalized their own people and own religions. Worst some irresponsible culprits or local cronies are allowing illegal migrants to rape and invade Sabah as well as in Peninsular Malaysia and to take over the local jobs and lands here. Do you see the dangerous issue here. #Kasim Amat is like other cronies are blinded by corrupt money with one eye closed when all Malaysians are crying on many issues today. What a SHAME ?

    (b) Yes, we Arabian investors are dam rich have pumped billions dinars and dollars into Malaysian soil and created thousand jobs for Malaysians. We opened our Islamic investmemt banks , purchased expensive properties, invest in Islamic halal products, invest in Bursa shares and invest in IDR project soon. We also support your Second Home Campaign to bring in our rich Muslim Brothers and Sisters from Middle East to share our wealth here. We voiced our sadness here because we felt sick to see an unequal treatment and injustice policies are meted out by your own Muslim government. All Malaysians suffered from inflation and devaluation of RM but greedy cronies and local politicians are sucking their own people wealth and let the local middle and poor people living in pain today. Do you see all good deeds we PRs have contributed to the nation here? Kasim Amat still blinded by greed and easy money by sucking on their own Malaysian blood like dracula? Unless Kasim Amat & cronies decided to broom all rich Arabian investors out from Malaysia. We are glad to divert our billions to next door Muslim countries. We open challenge Kasim Amat today. What a SHAME?

    (c) Kasim Amat quoted that we PRs are not the one suffering please keep your mouth shut as this is the affairs of Malaysia! Kasim is damn WRONG here. In a globalized world, all intellectual citizens of the world have good reasons to voice out against any discrimination, marginalization, torture, injustice etc been executed by any cruel and bad governments towards their own people. Similar Malaysian leaders have been criticising and condeming Israel regimes for their cruel and discrimination towards the Muslim Arabs. We observed that Malaysians have been keeping their BIG MOUTHS shut for past 50 years and let the rotten apples here doing their dirty racist jobs, raping the nation wealth, transfer/hidding billions into the Westeners’ pockets and selling tribe lands to the greedy foreign developers/ investors (we, Arab investors will not invest non-halal lands here.) Now it is time the new smart IT generation of Malaysians have voted out the bad hats and cronies to be replaced by better leaders in five states. SAPP protest and vote of NO CONFIDENCE against the Master is the RIGHT time and place to defend the sovereignity of Sabahans and to free their Sabahans from all bad faiths and poor governance in Sabah today. Do you see what happen to the economic and financial situation in Malaysia today? Pity Bursa shares are RED, Forex RM is devalued, Value of Ringgit is diminishing, Properties prices skyrocketting, Cronies are getting rich to richest and Malaysians are becoming poor beggars soon.
#Kasim Amat – please keep your mouth shut and eyes closed , get out of this LSK’s blog and go polish the cronies’ shoes in SakaBangsa’s blog. What a SHAME?

Last but not least, we Muslims PR/Investor will continue to voice our concern and support all Malaysians in this blog and contribte our opinion and comments without FEAR or FAVOUR!

    Hidup Malaysia.

‘AS aPR you should contribute positively towards the racial harmony of this country instead of the other way round.’. Kasim Amat.

Are you sure you know what you are talking or not.Anak Malaysia is in fact trying to contribute towards racial harmony….. he is trying to tell your masters to stop the plundering , make better use of tax payers money to help the poor without discrimination and give all Malaysian a place under the sun, not that trumped up crap of celebrating each other festivals …a bloody farce that can be only dreamed up by your racist master which can easily be seen thro by anyone. It looks like Anak Malaysia has been thro quite a bit of rural Malaysia and I am sure he would not fail to notice that you people are even marginalising the indigenous people of Malaysia ie the orang asli, penans, kadazans, dusuns, ibans, kelabits etc etc.You people are not the indigenous people here.
So if your masters can do all this (giving a place under the sun without discriminating) then surely racial harmony would return without having to put on false efforts (like expensive advertising to tell the world of Malaysia’s multiracial society living in harmony) which can be easily seen thro by the world!

Jeffry think Anwar’s trategy is flawed from the start. Me think otherwise.
Even if done in utmost secrecy the plot would have leaked out and Abdullah would still take all the measures, legal and illegal, to remain in power.
A plot of this magnitude can never be done in secrecy.

The early announcement is to prepare the nation for a change. A sudden change will be quite unsettling and might even lead to bloodshed.
Even the police force would want to maintain the status quo as it has its own corrupt interests to protect.
Anwar’s strategy also allows for testing the waters – the feelings on the ground – so that BN MPs can think and act accordingly.
Of course the rent seekers will want to remain in power but there are still others with a conscience and love for the country.
Anyway, let see if Anwar is right or wrong. We will know soon.
I think he is playing his cards well but remember, an unethical and immoral regime like the BN will fight tooth and nail regardless of the harm it will cause the nation.

The so called middle east cover many countries, some are rich, some are still poor, we cannot generallize in one statement on their GDP/capita.
Poor or not so rich countries (compare with Msia), Yemen, Egypt, Turkey, Jordan, Syria, etc
Rich countries (on GDP/capita, compare with Msia), UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, etc
Potentially rich, but economy destroyed, Iraq.

There could yet be another twist to this entire vaudeville show.

Everyone(in BN) thinks that this no confidence tactic was engineered by Anwar. Has anyone given a thought that it could be from within UMNO? Someone wants to give a strong message to AAB to get out and NOW. Just look at the timing. Just after AAB confirms again that he will be standing for re-election as UMNO president, this happens. By persuading YTL to take the plunge in return for future goodies, this unseen UMNO hand is trying to galvanise UMNO members to jump on the bandwagon and bay for AAB’s blood on the excuse his continued presence would destroy BN. This is because AAB would have to expel SAPP now after this episode. And if other BN component parties follow suit, the same will happen to them and BN will split up and be completely destroyed.

  90. #91 by oknyua on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 11:46 am

Datuk Yong Teck Lee, in reading to his action, SAPP’s departure from BN is a foregone conclusion, but as most commentators agreed, he is “testing” Mr Abdullah’s response. Had Abdullah retained his “elegant silence” Yong TL could have suffered damage. But reactions from various factions in the BN revealed exactly the fractious BN coalition. None removal of SAPP confirmed another fact; the weakness of BN and PM Abdullah.

And I believe that Yong TL is not acting alone. Mr Smith, I can concur with you.

Note: Let Kassim Amat post, its all right, but don’t respond. You see, he is from KPMU (aka UMNO Youth aka KJ) which itself is trying to attack Raja Petra, Anwar, Lim KS and sometimes Tun Mahathir. However it suffered from lack of visitors. So, KPMU is using YB Lim’s blog to reach to us.

Re Mr Smith’s comments, it is not just about Anwar’s inability to keep confidentiality of his intentions but it is also about:-

Not consulting, strategizing and getting support from people who count most ie the top leaders of his political partners within PR, DAP & PAS. If Kit had prior known he wouldn’t have raised the standing order problem; and had PAS known Kelantan MBenteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said the action by SAPP was an “act of back-stabbing by frustrated people.” He said it would have been appropriate had the SAPP discussed the matter first before making such a stand.”Stabbing a friend an act by frustrated people,” he told reporters after launching the Pasir Tumbuh Islamic Satellite Town. Nik Aziz, who is PAS spiritual leader, however, described SAPP’s action as providing a “meeting point” for the party and Pakatan Rakyat (People’s Alliance).”I’m not familiar with SAPP, but it is starting to follow the opposition’s line, which means that there is a meeting point between us and the party”. – Source Bernama June 19. This means that if Yong/SAPP are in concert with DSAI, DSAI himself has no “meeting point” with rest of Opposition parties that he is supposed to be defacto head. Is this a unilateral heroic act of DSAI that he wants to claim sole credit? He is in Pakatan Rakyat partnership which is not his sole proprietorship. The first defector to break ranks from BN has to have weight and credibility to swing others in same direction and what is the best DSAI has come out with ? Yong/SAPP! It is so pathetic that after the ‘rebellion’ is announced Barisan Nasional supreme council could condescend not to take any action for time being against them – meaning they’re not even significant or threatening enough to the vital interest of BN to warrant BN’s immediate action against SAPP/Yong as deterrent against other acting in concert with DSAI!

The “no confidence” is not likely to be from enemies of Pak Lah in UMNO because (1) unseen hand in UMNO nothing to gain from PM/cabinet/govt being booted out for another election, meaning that unseen hand has no access gravy train, has to stand for election when as detractor he may not be even fielded in the next GE; (2) that unseen hand, as detractor sidelined by top UMNO leadership allied with PM could offer nothing to SAPP/Yong as Anwar could; and (3) had the unseen hand want to depose premier it is better coalesce those sympathetic to his cause to mount a leadership challenge within UMNO rather than national parliament that attracts unintended consequences per (1) above.

From elimination process and all of uttreances from DSAI & Amin – and knowing Yong/SAPP – would not have acted on principles on their own alone, the finger points to Anwart that the government has also confirmed.

Guys hoping for Pakatan Rakyat to bring better governance than BN has to think again whether PR will bring such changes as promised, taking into consideration the kind of politicians, judging from their track record, that DSAI is acting in concert to bring on board by cross overs to join the bandwagon.

I think sometimes we analyse and postulate too much. We expect every manoeuvring must have a clear path and every strategic move must attain predetermined result. The reality is events unfolding around us are hard to explain. I would assume that those who have taken certain actions would have gone through the thought process. At the moment things look dumb, but are they? I think the best is to wait a little longer and see how things further evolve.

It is also not a question of hammering him constantly : he is embarked on a major project of changing a government that has been ensconced for 50 years – which all of us have an interest. If he is bungling it or going about it amatuerishly (so it seems to me now though granting events later may well prove me wrong) I see no reason why we cannot criticise his actions. Especially the part that he proceeded upon the whole project unilaterally (so again it seems to me), without conferring, strategising and coordinating with the top leaders of his so called ‘equal’ political partners).

I share Jeffrey’s reservation about Anwar’s integrity. But I tend to think that Anwar is a very capable man. In any case, I agree with limkamput that it’d be best to wait for a few more days before assessing his moves.

The ‘advance notices’ Anwar has been giving seem to be a good strategy in a war of nerves. Announcing every single plot in advance would be foolish. But announcing some plans within the whole strategy could be a clever move in a war of nerves.

Events are still unfolding, and for all we know, there may be plans and agreement achieved between several parties that we’re not aware of.

    Wait and see!

“A “little” SAPP is going to move a motion of no-confidence against the Prime Minister in the Parliament. Is Yong bold or foresighted?
Is he taking the opportunity to raise his bargaining chip to exchange for more capitals or does he really want the Prime Minister to step down?”.

Indeed, what is a minnow like SAPP with “no official position Yong” trying to accomplish with that either “bold” or “foresighted” move? Or, perhaps, it is a political “hara kiri”?
Yes, the “powerful” BN (UMNO) could immediately expel SAPP from the coalition according to the usual ritual so that it would disappear from the political arena forever. But they chose not to, and with Pak Lah saying,”We cannot simply take action against any one party…We have to be correct…against any leader…or component party”. Why, why, and why? So many questions with plenty of fodder for speculations but no clear cut answers..for now!

Yong openly and willingly admitted to having met with Anwar on two occasions, but I find that strategized for the BN to speculate and to read into those two meetings as SAPP intention to join PKR. As agreed all round, Yong is an educated man and he too knows full well that there is only a very slim chance, if at all, of his motion to be tabled in Parliament. Still, regardless, Yong decided to drop that bombshell!

On the face of Yong’s explanations for his “no confidence” motion, they all have merits, justifications, and very noble cause not especially to Sabahans but to all Malaysian at large. I think Yong must have factored into his gambit that the parliament speaker is a Sabahan and should therefore consider or even support his motion in parliament. He must also have included the two BN MPs who turned down the federal deputy ministry posts, and the other Sabah BN MPs who have been very vocal in pushing for more equal treatment and actions for Sabah. Yong even roped in the two SAPP’s MP to back him up, but apparently did not consult with his deputy Raymond. That further adds dimension to the mystery of Yong’s grand scheme.

Pak Lah, on being asked of Yong’s announcement, had retorted: “I could not satisfy his greed”, and said he will elaborated at a later time which he did with: “Yong had demanded for more seats for SAPP during the 12th general elections as well as expressing his desire to contest Kota Kinabalu constituency even though the seat had been allocated to Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS)”. But that hardly amounts to very much in “satisfying Yong’s greed” as it is just as could be expected request from all political parties jockeying for more seats. I think Pak Lah thought his people must have a dossier on Yong’s past political activities for him to “elaborate” on some of Yong’s skeletons when he (Yong) was the Chief Minister of Sabah. Pak Lah must have been greatly disappointed that Tun M, being the PM then, has all such dossiers in his possession. Hence that lamb elaboration on “unable to satisfy Yong’s greed”.

So, exactly why did Yong did what he did and, more puzzling is what does he hope to GAIN out of all this?
    1. If the BN kicked out SAPP from the coalition, that would not go down well with Sabahans as SAPP is perceived to be fighting for the rights and justice for Sabah. Yong knows this and factored that into his assessments.

    2. Yong had hoped that some BN MPs, motivated by his announcement, would jump on the bandwagon. When that did not materialize, Yong immediately switched to damaged control by having his deputy make a declaration to distance SAPP from Yong’s announcement. Pak Lah conveniently lapped up Raymond’s statement and decided not to punish SAPP for Yong’s announcement. Two MPs is much better than two less MPs.

    3. The normally sarcastic Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri came out with a very mild rebuttal for Yong’s action by saying, “ ..the party can accommodate dissenting voices and didn’t think there was a need to expel SAPP from the coalition party” and added, “It’s their right to express their views”.
This really is a very strange reaction by Nazri and just adds plenty of fuel to exactly who is instrumental in Yong’s course of action. Even the DAP is puzzle and PAS quizzical. Tun M is taking it easy and I would dare hedge my bet that he is behind the scene. Until we see who would come to take the final bow would we know the director, scrip writer, and producer of Yong’s theatrical.
Nothing seems to be what it appears to be when it comes to Yong & Tun M…especially Tun M!
But then, I might have greatly over credited these two gentlemen and the whole Yong thing is nothing more than just a political fiasco.

    For your knowledge…….amazing homework….

Today Tenaga stock rose by about MYR1.00. Volume traded in excess of 35 million units.Yesterday Tenaga stock was suspended.
    Put these points together:

1 If you know that an announcement would be made on Wednesday that TNB rates will be revised upwards you would surely buy Tenaga shares on Tuesday.
    2. If you own an investment bank or have sufficient credit line with an Investment Bank you would have bought as much as you could knowing that the price will surely go up.
    3. Since you have to pay within 3 days (T+3 rule), you would have
planned to sell on Friday. Â So you could have bought 1Million Tenaga shares on Tuesday and sold it today for a cool MYR1Million profit without paying any money (perhaps some borrowing costs for 2-3 days).
    4. Of course none of us are privy to the announcement of the fuel
hike, but the family of the PM are privy to it.
    5. Of course none of us have a large credit line with an Investment Bank but the family of the PM owns an investment bank.
    6. Why the surprise announcement on 05 June when the PM has said that it would be in August ? Well you can only make a big and quick profit if you control the timings and surprise others.
    7. For those in the know (the powers that be and their cronies) this
has been one hugely profitable week buying and shorting the related shares. The poor rakyat had to queue just to fill up their tanks and perhaps save between MYR20-MYR100.

Now read below….. Need those in know of the basic economics of crude, fuel etc to comment.

WHAT IS NEVER MENTIONED IN Mainstream Media like NST/TheStar/Utusan/BH are these facts….

Malaysian PerCapita Income USD 5000 VS
    Singaporean PerCapita Income USD 25000

Further The Star made a comparison of prices in Thailand , Singapore and Indonesia .
For Thailand it is quoted at RM3.90/liter, however are they aware
that in Thailand new cars are cheaper than Malaysia by RM10,000? They pay only one life time for their driving license? No renewal fee after that?
Also that goes for road tax as well? And do TheStar also aware that you can drive all the way from Hadtyai to Bangkok on a six lane highway without paying any Tolls ??!!
Whereas here in Malaysia you have to pay yearly renewal for road tax, driving license and TOLLS, TOLLS, TOLLS!!!

For Singapore how can you quote RM 5.20 ? Please quote in Singapore Dollars because they are earning in Sing Dollars. You might as well say Europeans are paying RM10/liter. RM5.20/liter = Sing $ 2.20/liter, still cheaper than Malaysia in view of fact that Singapore is not a crude oil exporter. Are you saying that you fill up petrol in Singapore by paying Ringgit?

In economy, dollar to dollar must be compared as apple to apple. Not comparing like durian in M’sia is much cheaper than durian in Japan!! Of course-lah, Japan is not durian producer!!! Comparing Malaysian durian with Thailand durian make more sense!!

For Indonesia we might say is cheaper there at RM2.07/liter but compare that to their level of income!

Now, let us compare the price with OIL PRODUCING countries:

    UAE RM1.19/litre
    Eygpt RM1.03/litre
    Bahrain RM0.87/litre
    Qatar RM0.68/litre
    Kuwait RM0.67/litre
    Saudi Arabia RM0.38/litre
    IranRM0.35/litre
    Nigeria RM0.32/litre
    Turkmenistan RM0.25/litre
    Venezuela RM0.16/litre

    MALAYSIA RM2.70/litre !

RM 2.70!!! From an individual perspective:

As of last month a Toyota Vios would ’cause a damage’ of about RM89,000. In the international market, a Toyota Vios is about USD 19,000
    USD 19,000 = RM 62,700 (using the indicative rates of USD 1 = RM3.30)
That makes Malaysian Vios owners pay an extra RM 26,300.

This RM 26,300 should be cost of operations, profit and tax because the transportation costs have been factored in to the USD 19,000.
RM 26,300/ RM625 petrol rebate per year translates to a Vios being used for 42.08 years.

I do understand that the RM 625 is a rebate given by the government, but it also means that one has to use the Vios for 42.08 years just to make back the amount paid in taxes for the usage of a foreign car. Would anyone use any kind of car for that long?

Now with these numbers in front of us, does the subsidy sound like a subsidy or does it sound like a penalty? This just seems to be a heavy increment in our daily cost of living as we are not only charged with high car taxes but also with a drastic increase in fuel price.

With all the numbers listed out, I urge all Malaysians to join me in analyzing the situation further.

Car taxation is government profit, fuel sales is Petronas’ (GLC) profit which also translates into government profit. The government may ridicule us Malaysians by saying look at the world market and fuel price world wide. Please, we are Malaysians, we fought of the British, had a international port in the early centuries (Malacca), home to a racially mixed nation and WE ARE NOT STUPID!!!

We know the international rates are above the USD 130/barrel. We understand the fact that the fuel prices are increasing worldwide and we also know that major scientist are still contradicting on why this phenomenon is happening. Some blame Bush and his plunders around the world and some blame climate change and there are others which say petroleum ‘wells’ are getting scarce.

Again we go back to numbers to be more straight fwd

    1 barrel = 159 liters x RM2.70/liter = RM 429 or USD 134

On 1 hand, we are paying the full cost of 1 barrel of crude oil with RM2.70 per liter but on the other hand the crude oil only produces 46% of fuel.

Msia sells crude oil per barrel at USD130 buys back Fuel per barrel at USD134. And not forgetting, every barrel of fuel is produced with 2 barrels of crude oil.

1 barrel crude oil = produce 46% fuel (or half of crude oil), therefore
2 barrel crude oil = approximately 1 barrel fuel
In other words, each time we sell 2 barrels of crude oil, equivalently we will buy back 1 barrel of fuel.

    Financially,
    Malaysiasell 2 barrel crude oil @ USD 130/barrel = USD 260 = RM 858
then, Malaysia will buy back fuel @ USD 134/barrel = RM 442/barrel
Thus, Malaysia earn net extra USD 126 = RM 416 for each 2 barrel of crude sold/exported vs imported 1 barrel of fuel !!!
    (USD 260-134 = USD 126 = RM416)

So where this extra USD 126/barrel income is channeled to by Malaysian Govt???????? ?

    Another analysis:

    1 barrel crude oil = 159 liters.
46-47% of a barrel of crude oil = fuel that we use in our vehicles.
46% of 159 = 73.14 liters. @ RM 2.70/liter x 73.14 liter = RM197.48 of fuel per barrel of crudeoil. This is only 46% of the barrel, mind you. Using RM 3.30 = USD 1, we get that a barrel of crude oil produces USD 59.84 worth of petrol fuel (46% of 1barrel).
USD 59.84 of USD 130/barrel turns out to be 46% of a barrel as well.

Another 54% = bitumen, kerosene, and natural gases and so many more.
And this makes a balance of USD 70.16 that has not been accounted for.

So this is where I got curious. Where is the subsidy if we are paying 46% of the price of a barrel of crude oil when the production of petrol/barrel of crude oil is still only 46%?

In actual fact, we still pay for this as they are charged in the forms of fuel surcharge by airlines and road taxes for the building of road (because they use the tar/bitumen) and many more excuse charging us but let us just leave all that out of our calculations.

As far as I know, only the politicians who live in Putrajaya and come for their Parliament meetings in Kuala Lumpur (approximately 60+ km) are the ones to gain as they claim their fuel and toll charges from the money of the RAKYAT’s TAX.

It is so disappointing to see this happen time and time again to the Malaysian public, where they are deceived by the propaganda held by the politicians and the controls they have over the press.

Which stupid idiot economist equates rebates for rich or poor with the cc of the vehicles? An average office clerk may own a second hand 1300cc proton Iswara costing $7,000 (rebate = $625) while the Datuk’s children can own a fleet of 10 new cars of BMW, Audi and Volvo all less than 2000cc costing $2 millions and get a total rebate of $625 x 10 = $6,250! Wow what kind of economists we are keeping in Malaysia…wonder which phD certificate that they bought from…

    Misleading concept of Subsidy:
The word “subsidy” has been brandished by the BN government as
if it has so generously helped the rakyat and in doing so incurred losses. This simple example will help to explain the fallacy:

    Example:

Ahmad is a fisherman. He sells a fish to you at $10 which is below the market value of $15. Let’s assume that he caught the fish from the abundance of the sea at little or no cost. Ahmad claims that since the market value of the fish is $15 and he sold you the fish for $10, he had subsidised you $5 and therefore made a loss of $5.

Question : Did Ahmad actually make a profit of $10 or loss of $5 which he claimed is the subsidy?

    Answer:
Ahmad makes a profit of $10 which is the difference of the selling price ($10) minus the cost price ($0 since the fish was caught from the abundance of the sea). There is no subsidy as claimed by Ahmad.

The BN government claims that it is a subsidy because the oil is kept and treated as somebody else’s property (you know who). By right,
the oil belongs to all citizens of the country and the government is a trustee for the citizens. So as in the above simple example, the BN government cannot claim that it has subsidised the citizen!

    UMNO/BN MUST DISAPPEAR FROM MALAYSIA!

“I share Jeffrey’s reservation about Anwar’s integrity. But I tend to think that Anwar is a very capable man.” Lee Wan Yen

For the past few months, Jeffrey has been hitting out at Anwar’s integrity, starting with the Pakatan stance on islamisation and the potential crossovers of BN MPs to PR. Now he tries to equate my condemnation of BN to his criticism of Anwar. [“…..there being no measuring cast of a difference in principles between PR’s defacto head and his boys, what’s the reason to attack incessantly Pak Lah and his?”]

Jeffrey implies that Anwar is a dictator (“Is PR a one-man show?”) or that Anwar is amateurish in his attempts to force a change in regime.

My criticism of BN as a den of thieves is obvious. We elected a federal government that allows UMNOputras to dip their hands into the till. We elected a government that is totally incompetent. They deserve the criticism (or attacks if you want to call it) heaped upon them.

What has Anwar done to justify the negative postulating that Jeffrey has been making all this while ?

    from: Godfather to: Jeffrey

    ====================================================

I totally agree with Godfather here. Jeffrey deserves to be whacked.

If one (1) is ‘good’ enough for the time being, then so be it.

If I am not wrong, Gandhi alone led India to independence. And India has a lot more citizens than Malaysia. Moreover, almost 50% of the people supported PR. All talks about good ethics and the law when dealing with dirty corrupt politicians are useless. Think a while here, are the current administrators of this country playing by the rules? They are not even afraid of you, the Citizen, which is also you Jeffrey, who voted them to power, literally.

History has a place for the bold. And bold leaders often possess charisma, oratory skills and the power to influence. Anwar has all the above ingredients.

Let a NEW Malaysia emerge before we talk of any ethics. There is no ethics when the Rakyat are struggling now, daily since the fuel hike!

UMNO or BN is not wrong, the chief has been too much, naive and ignorance of people’s plight for too long after the March 8th, as a result people wanted to vote “no confidence” and demand him to handover the party position to other capable candidates. Is UMNO lacking in leader who can steer the country to WAWASAN 2020?

They think of MP or parties as commodity to be bought over with millionth from the country coffer and Petronas revenue? In the future who will suffer the most?

The whatever split in SAPP is actually those who have and those who have not.

Those who have are on the gravy train and are holding government posts like Deputy Chief Minister and the like. They fear losing everything and become nobodies overnight. The gravy is just too thick to give up.

Those who have not, like Yong Teck Lee, the only party leader who was not given a kerusi to contest, are merely wishing they were on the gravy train. If they were, then no problem, but they are not so they come out with their frustrations.

There is nothing personal here. I’ve got nothing against him. The criticisms are based on what I – rightly or wrongly – interpret is the inevitable conclusion based on the events that have so far unfolded, whether one chooses to acknowledge them or not.

Neither did I say he was a ‘ dictator’ by question “Is PR a one-man show?”

When someone who is defacto head of an opposition coalition acting concert with Sabah politicians launches an ambitious project to start a change of government about which his partners within the coalition knew not much (see the comments of Nik Aziz, Guan Eng & Kit which are running counter to the smooth operation of the plan of the Sabahan politicians acting in concert), what do you call the ‘brains’ behind such an ambitious operation – dictator or fool, when your own people (top leaders of Pakatan Rakyat), not being privy to plans, express surprise and by their comments are shooting at and not openly supporting your plans or the plans of your Sabah operatives???

As I said, events as they unfold may prove me wrong – that he might well turn out to be a consummate operator – that remains to be seen – but based strictly on what has happened thus far, I think it is amateurish. (That’s just my personal opinion, as it occurs to me, and I have not made a claim that it is irrefutable truth that you must believe).

However an opinion based on one’s interpretation of facts (whether interpretation is right or wrong) is no basis for Godfather to suspect or impute personal bias or antipathy or hidden agendas – his posting Today at 15: 47.33 (2 hours ago refers when he said “when the postulations take a negative slant on almost all issues regarding Anwar, then I can’t help but be suspicious about the motives of the people making those postulations”.

Godfather has such a visceral antipathy towards BN and all in it that he is prepared to (1) gloss over the limitations, errors, wrong doings, whether committed by Anwar or PAS as long as they are against the BN and (2) criticize and oppose any one for anything, no matter how true, as long as it is perceived as undermining or running counter against any effort to dislodge the BN!

I humbly submit that such a benchmark set in looking at any issue is a true reflection of real selective and personal bias.

    Dear i_love_malaysia,

however much barrels are traded between Malaysia and the rest of the world isn’t only the issue.

As said, government officials are only the trustee for the Rakyat when it comes natural resources derived from this soil, which belongs to the Rakyat.

And so far, various responses from these officials can’t fully explain the so called high subsidy that the government said were drilling a gigantic hole in the state’s coffers, thus creating the massive chain reaction in this country where everything including politics are inter-related.

Petronas said its oil (in its natural form), are more suited to aircrafts usage and heavy industrial vehicle than our sedans. But until is properly explained, their actions and consideration towards the welfare of the Rakyat will be open to assumptions.

Shell got Regular fuel (cheap) and V-Power (expensive) types. But Shell is American, we do not expect initiatives from them to make our lives better, but, we expect the Malaysian government would, after all its profits they earned.

A 747 can use our fuel, why is it not suitable for domestic cars.

And remember what AAB said, the reason for the increase of fuel is to “slow down” the premature death of Petronas, what is the basis?!

If Petronas profits are handled and channeled correctly (i.e. no foul play or corruption), maybe AAB would have kept his promise in PRU12 to only raise the fuel in August, at least.

    UMNO/BN OUT!

  129. #130 by Jeffrey on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 6:22 pm

Because the benchmark of such an approach is always let the BN be damned and there is no price that is not worth paying, no truth that is not worth sidelining as long as the BN is damned and even if the truth should conflict with the damning of BN and den of thieves, then the latter must still prevail over truth, which is not as important as the imperative of the former. I regret that I don’t share such an approach.

  130. #131 by Godfather on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 6:23 pm

“….criticize and oppose any one for anything, no matter how true…”

You mean no matter how untrue, don’t you ? OK, All I need is to for you to highlight some instances of your sweeping allegation that I “oppose anyone on anything, no matter how untrue”.

I plead guilty to the charge that I am anti-BN. I have simply seen too much.

  131. #132 by Godfather on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 6:30 pm

After Jeffrey asserts that he is not calling Anwar a dictator, he goes on to say this:

“When someone who is defacto head of an opposition coalition acting concert with Sabah politicians launches an ambitious project to start a change of government about which his partners within the coalition knew not much (see the comments of Nik Aziz, Guan Eng & Kit which are running counter to the smooth operation of the plan of the Sabahan politicians acting in concert), what do you call the ‘brains’ behind such an ambitious operation – dictator or fool, when your own people (top leaders of Pakatan Rakyat), not being privy to plans, express surprise and by their comments are shooting at and not openly supporting your plans or the plans of your Sabah operatives???”

Jeffrey now says that Anwar is either a dictator or fool. Or have I misunderstood this form of legalese ?

  132. #133 by Godfather on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 6:31 pm

Maybe I am not used to legal doublespeak.

  133. #134 by Jeffrey on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 6:31 pm

Nothing wrong with being anti BN : who is not??? But extreme antipathy should not cloud objectivity to the extent that we are screwed the other way by the other side aligned against the BN eg what PAS trying to do, and Anwar’s shortcomings in certain respects, which I have said in earlier posting. I have absolutely nothing against Anwar and no motives in the comments made except they are based on developments as happening up to today known to me.

  134. #135 by Lee Wang Yen on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 6:35 pm

As Godfather points out, Jeffrey says or implies that Anwar is EITHER a dictator OR fool.

Earlier Jeffrey denied that one of his earlier comment implied that Anwar was a dictator.

There is strictly speaking no doubletalk here.

  135. #136 by Jeffrey on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 6:38 pm

Repost: there is nothing wrong with being anti-BN : who is not??? But let not extreme antipathy against BN compromise objectivity in acknowledging wrong doings of those opposed to BN and whom we depend on opposing BN, for example, what PAS is trying to do in Selangor and PR’s MB Khalid is mediating with the Sultan or the less than effective way Anwar has so far launched the first salvos (through his Sabahan collaborators) to change the government that many here are pinning their hopes that it would be successful after all the early promises by him.

  136. #137 by Godfather on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 6:43 pm

Another quote of Jeffrey’s from a very recent thread:

” And the third is on the chameleon record of DSAI, his Islamic credentials past links with ABIM, betting that when the crunch comes, DSAI would for the PM’s position, side PAS against DAP with PAS pulling the strings behind in newly formed PR Govt.”

  139. #140 by Godfather on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 6:52 pm

Some people use convoluted writings, long sentences, long paragraphs etc to hide their bigotry, but when you distill their writings, the truth inevitably comes out.

  140. #141 by kingkenny on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 6:56 pm

Dear Jeffrey, excerpt below was taken from a super popular Malaysian website, look for the truth before you speak the untruth, this is a clear case of mismanagement of funds that in turn breed “extreme antipathy” (as you called it) towards BN, by the way it was available in the news too:

    >>He added that the state would call for tenders soon and award the logging contract to the highest bidder. “We will discuss the logging method to be used with the Forestry Department,” he told newsmen after chairing the state executive council meeting yesterday.

He added that the Federal Government had promised to pay an annual compensation of RM100 million in 2003 following the state’s decision to cancel its proposed heli-harvesting project to log timber in catchment areas. “However, until now the payment has not been made. We have also asked the Federal Government for financial assistance for the water supply to Penang and Perlis and for the rice we are producing for the country. Since the Government cannot assist us financially, we will carry on with the logging activities,” Azizan added.<<

  141. #142 by Jeffrey on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 6:59 pm

Yes, but if you must quote then do so presenting the proper context so that the true meaning of what is said is divined and njot misconstrued . I was talking in the other thread about PAS and it having four advantages going for it, the first being “its state of preparedness and better organisational skills – including organising demonstrations” and amongst others, the third being what you quoted. I was speaking of what I thought was PAS’s possible calculations, deliberations and projections that give the party the strength to persevere its agenda, notwithstanding its privy to PR’s manifesto, which saying what PAS is calculating on is a far cry from saying that I agree or am calculating that DSAI is a chameleon, that based on his Islamic credentials past links with ABIM, he would definitely, when the crunch comes, side with PAS against DAP when it comes to the crunch for the PM’s position. Please read the context it is said (in relation to PAS) excluding which, when you pick a quote like that in isolation to what went before and after, it gives an unfair impression that I say this of DSAI deliberately. But then again perhaps that is your intention..

  142. #143 by Lee Wang Yen on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:01 pm

When a person P makes a statement S and then says something that entails ~S, then there is a doubletalk.

But when someone says or implies ‘S or R’ (e.g. XXX is either a dictator or fool) and then says ‘~S’ (e.g. XXX is not a dictator), there is no doubletalk at all.

  143. #144 by Jeffrey on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:04 pm

    Dear kingkenny,

Did I say BN fellas do not mismanage funds? Do I say it is wrong any “extreme antipathy” towards BN? I only said, don’t just because of “extreme antipathy” towards BN, which by itself is nothing wrong, we slide over to a pathological state to gloss over , excuse and forget the wrongs that those opposed to BN do.

  144. #145 by Lee Wang Yen on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:07 pm

When I say that Jeffrey’s statements are strictly speaking not a doubletalk, in what sense is my statement a doubletalk? Would Godfather please enlighten me? If that is not the doubletalk Godfather discerned in my comment, would Godfather please let me know which of my comments gave him the impression of doubletalk?

  145. #146 by Godfather on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:08 pm

So please give some examples where I (or other anti-BN people) have “glossed over”, “excused” or “forget” the wrongs that those opposed to BN do.

///I am still waiting for Jeffrey to highlight some instances of me bashing BN based on untruths///.

How did you make that quantum leap from one to the other???

“Because the benchmark of such an approach is always let the BN be damned and there is no price that is not worth paying, no truth that is not worth sidelining as long as the BN is damned and even if the truth should conflict with the damning of BN and den of thieves, then the latter must still prevail over truth, which is not as important as the imperative of the former.”

Are these not your words ? Maybe you could tell us in plain English, hopefully abbreviated, as to what you really wanted to say.

  149. #150 by Jeffrey on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:21 pm

examples of where I (or other anti-BN people) have “glossed over”, “excused” or “forget” the wrongs that those opposed to BN do?? I thought the whole argument is about that, its replete all over the place, self explanatory eg downplaying significance of PAS initiatives in Selangor as “much ado about nothing” and criticising my criticisms of DSAI in relation to the plan to change govt using this mention of no confidence vote by Yong/SAPP about which his partners also criticise.

Now don’t get me wrong that you are not entitled to refute my criticisms of DSAI. I don’t have the monopoly of the truth and could be wrong and you can question and point based on facts where in my anaysis I went wrong. But that you did not do, but instead question why I am having negative slant, as if I have made bare faced assertions not based on any fact, and further in the process imputing motives.

  150. #151 by Godfather on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:21 pm

Hence my anti-BN approach brings with it my propensity to sideline the truth if it conflicts with my approach. Or even bury the truth as there is “no price that is worth paying” as long as the BN is damned.

  151. #152 by Jeffrey on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:23 pm

I think you have to figure it out yourself. I have said enough for the day. :)

  152. #153 by Lee Wang Yen on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:23 pm

    Dear Godfather,

Based on the paragraphs highlighted by Jeffrey and you, when he says that you are willing to sideline truth so long as BN is damned, he is not saying that you’re willing to make false accusations against BN. He is just saying that you’re willing to sideline all valid criticisms against BN’s enemies (e.g. Anwar, PAS etc). Brushing aside valid criticism against BN’s enemies is what Jeffrey meant by ‘sidelining the truth’.

  153. #154 by Jeffrey on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:25 pm

You can’t say it is not (what’s the word?) – “abbreviated”.

  154. #155 by Lee Wang Yen on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:25 pm

Though Jeffrey sometimes uses long sentences (sometimes these are inevitable), his writings are mostly very clear.

  155. #156 by Jeffrey on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:28 pm

Alas Wang Yen, I have long come to recognise that logic/objectivity and emotions can’t mix. Then again that is trite.

  156. #157 by Lee Wang Yen on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:30 pm

So it seems to me that Godfather has misunderstood Jeffrey’s terms ‘sidelining the truth’ as referring to Godfather’s making false accusations against BN.

That seems to me like a clear misunderstanding, since Jeffrey’s ‘sidelining of the truth’ came accross to me as clearly referring to ‘brushing aside valid criticisms of BN’s enemies (e.g. Anwar and PAS)’.

  157. #158 by Godfather on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:31 pm

I didn’t go to Cambridge, so I don’t think Jeffrey’s writings are “mostly very clear”.

  158. #159 by kingkenny on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:31 pm

    Dear Jeffrey,

from what I observe, you are not able to understand the feelings of the Rakyat in this new chapter of Malaysian politics after March 8th. Were there so much of information given to the public during the last 5 years? And especially during TM’s tenure? And what do you think of the beautiful TENC boutique in KLCC? The pattern is carrying on from generation to generation, albeit with no blood relations. For 51 years.

You have to understand, DSAI belong to his ‘generation of politicians’, he has his own people to satisfy and so does DAP in the PR framework. The Chinese now I believe are more mature, no matter where DAP goes, you can expect the supporters will follow suit. We are indeed a minority community, what we can have is A STRONG VOICE ONLY. If he does not deliver what he promise, it not only spell the end of him but also his pals, PR in general.

“Extreme antipathy”, “pathological state to gloss over and forget” and ethics does not apply to a ‘guilty’ thief.

  159. #160 by Godfather on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:34 pm

    Lee Wang Yen:

“No price that is not worth paying” has to mean that the truth must be buried if it conflicts with the ultimate aim of displacing BN. That’s fairly simple English.

  160. #161 by Jeffrey on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:34 pm

//I didn’t go to Cambridge, so I don’t think Jeffrey’s writings are “mostly very clear”// Neither did I but that’s a personal & cheap shot to refute someone’s point.

and also, you cannot have two sets of law in one place. You must choose one and start to abide by it. You can bet our “extreme antipathy” will not be lessened were a new government to form tomorrow, the welfare of the People is first and foremost.

  163. #164 by Jeffrey on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:38 pm

a reference to a commenter’s alma mater “Cambridge” is personal and does nothing to prove your point or refute the other – what to borrow Undergrad 2’s “abbreviated” expression – ‘a cheap shot’ in context of an argument.

  164. #165 by Lee Wang Yen on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:39 pm

    Dear Godfather,

Yes, it does mean that truth must be buried. But in Jeffrey’s immediate context, ‘truth must be buried’ clearly refers to ‘brushing aside valid criticisms against BN’s enemies’, not ‘making false accusations against BN’.

  165. #166 by Jeffrey on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:40 pm

//the welfare of the People is first and foremost// – Kingkenny.
Correct, correct, correct! :) Not interest of BN’s politicians – or even some of PR’s!

If you ask me to choose between a short, pithy and sarcastic comment that does not justify assertions made in the comment and a lengthy one that takes great care to spell out what the author really means and what bases or reasons he has for making certain claims, I’d prefer the latter.

Of course, it depends on what one is really interested in – truth or rhetoric.

  167. #168 by kingkenny on Friday, 20 June 2008 - 7:51 pm

It will however be beneficial if we try to be as objective as possible and not get too much emotions worked up.

A rhetoric has no basis or can it justify some accusations made to BN, likewise, the truth if exposed, should not be able to justify the suffering of the people. Lest, I understand incorrectly, that most of us here fairly agree on the many misdeeds of BN.

The REAL agenda, if you people must know, is that Jeffrey and others are not really out to discredit DSAI, but PAS.

They have been bitterly disappointed with the joint election manifesto, but it became worse after March 8 with the formation of Pakatan. They could not believe that DAP is in an alliance with PAS. The believe that PAS is the mortal enemy, and that BN is the lesser of two evils compared to PAS. They believe that it is much better for DAP to continue to be opposition barking dogs, and hence they are constantly on the lookout for every misdemeanour or misstep of PAS. Then they demand retribution, they demand that DAP make a stand right there and then. No negotiations with the mortal enemy, they say. No compromise.

That’s the real agenda, folks. Everything else is just a smokescreen. I was just toying with the theoretical lawyer and his Cambridge poodle on this thread.

In the front page of Daily Express dated 24 June 2008 (today):

Shabery : SAPP members shouldn’t follow Yong

A short excerpt from the report:

“Kuala Lumpur : Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) were voted in on the Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket in the March 8 election and as such should be more responsible and uphold the BN discipline, said Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

He said it was not the BN way to question its leadership.

“Like in a family, it is not right for a member to talk bad about the family to outsiders, what more to cooperate with enemies of the family just because they promised better things.

If the SAPP MPs feel they need to serve the people, they have no other choice but to remain in BN. They must take a different path from their own leader, who has gone against BN top leadership,”

Ahmad Shabery, who is also Kemaman MP, said SAPP MPs must make a stand whether to accept their leader’s action or respect the wishes of the people for them to serve under BN.“

I almost fell off from the chair reading that report. Hogwash! Baloney! These are the first words that came to mind. Minister of Information indeed! I think the designation of Minister of Disinformation would better reflect his function.

Is he new in the game or has the machinery in the ministry failed him that he failed to get the right information? He is reminding the SAPP MPs that they were voted in on BN’s ticket. Therefore, they should not jump ship. Hmm… Let me see whether I can recall what happened in Sabah approximately 13 years ago during the 1994 State election. Oh yes, Many PBS MPs who were voted in on PBS’s ticket jumped to BN!

BN didn’t think it was a problem then, why should it be a problem now?

Mr Shabery’s comment is a personal insult to all Sabahans. How low he views our intelligence. This culture of “leap frogging” was encouraged and perpetuated by BN and now when they have a taste of their own medicine, they are crying foul. Get a grip of yourself man! Have some dignity.

I think BN is an old senile man that is fighting desperately to cling on powers. His body is ravaged and decomposing from all the years of living in decadence. He is starting to spout nonsense.

Because more and more ordinary citizen see the trust on Pakatan Rakyat and Datuk Seri Anwar is getting stronger. Therefore the losers have no choice but to use dirty tactic against Datuk Seri Anwar. In the eyes of God, Anwar is my brother of trust and what ever he does is for the benefit of us. Therefore I pray hard for God blessing and protection over Anwar. God love is upon him. Trust in God.
