Abdullah fires back at his nemeses

Pak Lah has finally retaliated – firing back at his chief and unexpected nemesis, his predecessor Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad on all fours.

In his broadsides, the Prime Minister and Umno President Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi also did not spare his other nemeses – Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

However, one snippet of news about yesterday’s “open war” by Abdullah deserves greater attention.

Abdullah announced that Datuk Seri Najib Razak is the natural successor to the Umno presidency, saying: “ I assure you there are no problems between us, and he is the one who will be succeeding me.”

What should pique interest is not the omission by Abdullah as to when such handing over of power will take place, but Najib’s uncharacteristic silence in declining any comment on Abdullah’s assurance when approached by the media after the closed-door briefing for Umno grassroots leaders yesterday.

Does this connote another shifting of power equation in Umno?

Najib is the biggest winner so far as long as he remains silent although I don’t think he is a clean and good leader.

Pak Lah is just trying to switch the attention of the people by blaming Mahathir, etc. Blame game is the culture of UMNO. If Pak Lah is truly a good leader, he should take the necessary actions to reform UMNO in 2004, but right until now he still only pretends to work. The longer he hangs on the PM post, the higher the chance DSAI will be our PM next round, which I will be very happy to see! I want to see a complete destruction of the corrupted UMNO party!!

Isn’t it great to see the sniping amongst the thieves ? The only problem is that we won’t know how strong a grip one person has on the other person’s b@lls. All we know is that they all have their hands on each other’s b@lls.

You can see that on their faces.

One can’t guarantee that the following won’t happen: “Abdullah announced that his SIL Khairy is the natural successor to the Umno presidency, saying: “ I assure you there are no problems between us, and he is the one who will be succeeding me.”

Toothless tiger speaking. Pak Lah had the chance over the past 4 years to do something about what those 3 had done but he chosed to SLEEP. Now that he has awakened, its time for him to leave. Najib? Well, he is not a good choice. He’s tainted with lots of sleazy tales.

Those UMNO henchmen are playing the racial card again – land title in Perak. These people just don’t get the message from the people. I guess they will never learn.

We hope Pakatan Rakyat will perform beyond expectations and stay in power. We need you to succeed to teach those guys about good, clean and fair governance.

His SIL has been blamed for the polls fiasco, so now Badawi has to hang on by his fingernails or his SIL gets thrown to the wolves. If his SIL gets torn to shreds by the wolves, then it will also affect the UMNO careers of people like Reezal, Norza, Shukur, Azim….

Looks like the non-playing captain of the UMNO soccer team is running out of reserves.

Pak Lah needs to make things right for the sake of all Malaysians and with that he can leave behind a legacy as a good leader. One apologise for the judiciary and correct the wrongs. One slap on Dr.M. Two make ACA independent and let ACA go after the crooks. another slap on Dr.M. Undo the quota system in UMNO Baru. another slap on Dr.M. Last but not least expose Dr.M for who he is after all they are coming to get you Pak Lah, you might as well go out with a bang.

Malaysians will be eternally indebted to you if you just do the above.History will judge you well.

BTW I like the Pak Lah on tv yesterday. No elegant silent…a leader that address the issue.

He really put the blame to the saboteurs, TDM, Ku Li and DSAI. As expected. This is the act of our PM, no gentleman, coward, no-balls and etc, what ever u can think of.

Why now only he blamed TDM for the Ops Lalang? Why now only he blamed Ku Li for Kelantan losses? Why he don’t said it in the last year? Why he didn’t mention it when he on the PRU-11 with whopping majority?

I need a PM that is walk the talk not talk and talk or we call it cakap tak serupa bikin. If the team loss in the major league, they fired the manager and couch and hired a new one. Repectful manager themselves resign with honour to take the responsibility.

Pak Lah is still living in denial stage. Everything is other fault, he is the perfect one, and he think that he is still the chosen one.

“Despite all this, the voters did not reject us and the opposition is not the government of the day. At the federal government level, we were eight seats short of two-thirds majority – a benchmark for success in Barisan Nasional,” said Abdullah.” – malaysiakini

This is a prove that he is still living in his world and still dreaming.

Futhermore, the media conference session was tainted with the present of MMT.

“Although microphones were there but when it came to the Q&A portion, Muhd Taib said that Abdullah’s clarification was very good and asked if the Q&A session could be scrapped,” said the grassroots leader. ” – malaysiakini

Muhd Taib is clearly a “yes man” and pengampu. He already making a come back with series of idiot action like making police report about RPK insulting the Agong (he himself insulted the Sultan by lying not marrying the princess), making stupid media statement and now full-force-full-time pengampu to Pak Lah so that he can make a come back as UMNO Selangor Chief Liason replacing Khir and to take charge on wrestle back Selangor from Pakatan Rakyat. How idiot he will be. He is still dreaming to coming back as Menteri Besar Selangor. I think he and PL can go flykite and ZZZzzzz.zzz.z..z…

  14. #14 by anak_malaysia on Monday, 7 April 2008 - 11:04 am

    Further more,

” According to Muhd Taib, you don’t change the rules while in the middle of a football game. ” – Malaysiakini

Sorry Taib, the game is over and it is time to fire the manager and the couch, the club owner deserved an explanation and make necessary changes. But who is the club owner of UMNO? PM? MMT? Najib? NO……the members of UMNO. Unless the Member of UMNO is also chicken shit coward. And that will spell GAME OVER fo the them.

AAB’s deferential attitude, in the past, towards MM is interpreted by MM as weakness. Why AAB kept it up for so long, only he knows. In the news conference yesterday, a disdain for MM could be detected in AAB’s gesture and facial expression. AAB must come out rebuking MM’s accusations but at the same time he must also own up to his share of the blame. To act like MM, who absolves himself of all blame is not convincing. Weaknesses in leaders can be accepted by the rakyat, but to deny share of blame where there are clear signs of responsibility is despised by the rakyat.

The rakyat knows what type of person MM is and what type of administration he ran, all ABB needs to do is just to give the facts and the rakyat can judge for themselves.

The rakyat is sick and tried of perpetrators of injustices, of unfair and abusive acts now dressing themselves up as ‘sheep’. It can see through their guises and hypocrisies. These people are still thinking that the rakyat is ‘putty’ that can be shape and reshape in their hands. They have not awaken to the fact that the rakyat is no more the rakyat of the pre-GE12 days.

The rakyat knows it is the boss and it is prepared to act like boss now. MM may think he is now outside the elective process, so he needs not have to fear. But MM is very proud of his ‘legacy’ and he is very keen to protect this legacy. The raktay’s opinion plays a very vital role how he will be viewed in history!

By naming Najib as his successor, he is making it even harder for Najib to defect. Its Najib mistake to stay silent instead of being vocal and show confidence that he will succeed Badawi at such a critical juncture. He does not get it his options are closing. Even if he defects now to get the PMship, he will have his hands full to purge the party of objectors AND there will be many who won’t trust him.

Najib is an intellectual pretender and these moments proves it. He is going to sink or rise with Badawi.

I am glad Pak Lah finally retaliates especially against Tun Dr Mahathir. Well first it is time that Pak Lah sheds his lame duck image and show he is capable of sterner stuff; second, it is clear that if Pak Lah does not retaliate, TDM will not have the grace to withhold his punches either. Third, many of us cannot understand why TDM retired on his own and still now wants to interfere in how the country is run. If he were so interested, don’t retire lah! Besides, TDM has no moral standing to be standard flag bearer of dictating what is good for the country having regard to the record of his administration.

In wake of disastrous BN’s performance on 8th March, it should be obvious Pak Lah has to reinvent UMNO for the better or else BN, already imploding, will perish.

Looking strictly from his point of view, it would make sense to go all out to rid BN off corruption, cronyism and extremism and judicial problems (all of which were either started or intensified under TDM’s watch) by first making TDM account for each of these depredations.

In this connection, former UN special rapporteur Datuk Param Cumaraswamy has already called for a probe into alleged interference with the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) investigations by TDM He said the then ACA director-general Datuk Shafee Yahya had testified before then High Court Justice Ariffin Jaka in the Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial in June 2000 that the former prime minister had ordered him to close a file. “It’s still not too late to investigate. There is one alleged misdeed of Dr Mahathir, which needs investigation”, Param said.

Param’s call is supported by Mohamed Ezam Mohd Nor of the Civil Movement against Corruption (Gerak). He said, “Dr Mahathir Mohamad should be blamed for the crisis which had affected the judiciary, the police and the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA), as revealed by Thursday’s media statement by former UN special rapporteur Datuk Param Cumaraswamy. “Being the former Prime Minister does not in any way give Dr Mahathir immunity for his wrong-doings while in office. If ex-Peru president Alberto Fujimori can stand trial for abuse of power and corruption, then so can Dr Mahathir,” Ezam said.

After all Pak Lah himself admitted in today’s NST report that there were problems in the judiciary – there is no need for Lingam Video Commission to prove it – when the premier said that “its troubles did not originate from his administration….Confidence, including from business circles, in our judiciary is low.” The premier further added that “the corporate sector preferred to refer contractual disputes to countries other than Malaysia”. “They do not have confidence (in the Malaysian judiciary). This is bad,” he said. NST reported that “Abdullah said the government had to do something about the negative views of the judiciary”.

Regarding the part on whether there is shifting of power equation in Umno judging from “Najib’s uncharacteristic silence in declining any comment on Abdullah’s assurance when approached by the media”, there are but only two possibilities – shifting more to (1) Pak Lah or to (2) Najib.

Don’t know the “inside story” but it looks more like (1) since for him to come out gun blazing, he must have tied up loose ends and secured the no. 2 backing or at least not swinging over to the Tun’s side (when Tun has dropped support of him).

In such situations of something like “ I assure you there are no problems between us, and he is the one who will be succeeding me” foisted upon him, it would be characteristic rather than uncharacteristic for Najib to maintain silence (to retain his options).

For Pak Lah, time is of the essence, racing towards being done in by either TDM’s instigation of a rebellion within UMNO or the Opposition (Anwar) getting over 30 crossovers, whichever the earlier, so being pushed to the corner he has to fight back. Even a kitten fights back when cornered by a pitbull! :)

Tronoh DAP state assemblyman V. Sivakumar described the offer as the highest which he had received since March 9, from people claiming to represent the BN.

“Should I agree to join the BN, they offered me cash ranging from between RM10 million and RM65 million, as well as an executive councillor’s post.

“If I feared for my safety, they (were even willing) to offer 24-hour police protection and assistance to leave the country at any time with my family.

“I decided to lodge a police report as I felt pressured by the disturbing spate of calls and short messaging service (SMS) of late, including having some unknown people visiting my house in Taman Kledang Emas,” he said.

Does Pak Lah has a vision for this country? Vision is not or should not be mere empty word. It is really a statement of our hope, our dream, and our wish for our future. Every country or organisation (and even every person) must have a vision. It creates or moulds our future. It sets a direction or a path for us to move forward. It is hoped that whatever scams the PR government discovers on the BN government, are printed out in your blog. I have given up reading the newspaper for they will never tell you the truth.
When these scams are exposed, it is also a lesson to PR that they don’t repeat the same mistakes like the BN.
This can happen once PR keeps on retaining a particular State for many terms like what happened to the BN.

I went to Borders again yesterday spent 4 hrs reading and browsing on latest political books. I realized that a book was published by LimKokWing abt Pak Lah. When i read thru, i find the wording is so big, that mean there’s not much to write abt this leader. Whereas, i saw there are other books related to Tun Dr. Mahathir, Tunku Abdul Rahman, these books have more pages and looks very details.

It has become obvious that Pak Lah has no record or credit whatsoever in managing Malaysia.

And there is this new “Angkasawan book abt Shiek Muzapphar” most of the pages are tribute to his late brother instead of “The benefit of Malaysian into space program” thanks god it cost RM 20, i won’t buy that book, because it is nothing but publicity for a Malaysian with no records or credit as well. I thought our science has achieved tremendous progress till we have to drop someone to space to perform some critical research.

///I think the DAP should not be involved with getting rid of the PM///- HJ Angus

This is true. Within UMNO’s political firmament, he is, amongst those awaiting in line, least inimical to Opposition’s and Malaysian Cause.

When BN was routed on 8th May, its stalwarts and power brokers were and still are in disarray as to what caused such a defining change in voters’ support. In particular they don’t understand how they lost Malay votes in spit of their Malay & Religious Agenda!

One can blame either of the two things: –

    1. voters are fed up with corruption & abuse of power within the patronage system of the ruling coalition. For Malay voters even Malay & Religious Agenda could not compensate for these; or

    2. Pak Lah’s ineffectual leadership as Tun Dr Mahathir would suggest.

If we support assigning blame based on 2. then BN and UMNO in particular will proceed on the thinking that there is nothing wrong with their governance, that by getting rid of the PM, they could carry on with what they did before.

As regards 2., if the voters’ change of support was really due to his ineffectual leadership, then, it is better that this secret be not let known as his continuance would only assist the Opposition’s cause to win the next election. However, if Pak Lah could turn the ineffectual leadership to an effective one by re-inventing UMNO & BN for the better – in the process, mitigating corruption and restoring confidence in the judiciary and implementing policies more inclusive of non malays’ legitimate interests – then two other things can further happen – either: (a) BN remains an avenue of our alternative support in case the Opposition parties prove they cannot run the state governments satisfactorily as the rakyat expect or Opposition themselves implode due to the intractable differences between DAP and PAS or (b) DAP and PKR themselves could meet BN halfway and join the BN to promote overall better governance with inherent check and balance within the ruling coalition – in either cases severing the need of having PAS and its theocratic agenda as a fulcrum to effect change for better governance in the country and leaving it to its own deliberations, cut off from mainstream politics…..

Whoever is at the helm of UMNO must re-engineer the BN into a care for all Malaysian coalition, otherwise it will be back to square one. It looks like may be Muhyidin, Sharir, Zaid are such people who should go up the UMNO ladder; these are the people who may seem to be more ‘clean’.

Najib remaining silent? There is a saying among the Malays and this applies to Najib today. “After throwing stones you then hide your hands behind your back” (translated literally).

Mahathir epitomizes the arrogance in UMNO that breeds the misbehaviors of many of the UMNO leaders. Before 3/8 nobody seems to have to take any responsibility for such behaviors.

Mahathir believes he is right in sacking Anwar. But do the UMNO leaders and members in their hearts agree with him, for depriving UMNO of the leadership of Anwar?

Mahathir believes he is right in choosing Abullah to replace Anwar and becomes his successor.

But not long after Abdullah takes over from him, Mahathir believes and admits that he is wrong in his choice in Abdullah. And he has since been telling openly that Najib should be the rightful leader. After 3/8, seeing that Najib does not seem to support his call or demand for Abdullah’s resignation, Mahathir is hinting that his choice in Najib to replace Abdullah is no longer valid or is even a mistake again.

While calling vehemently for Abdullah’s resignation for failing to get the 2/3 majority in the last general election, what sort of responsibility should Mahathir take for his own mistake for making a wrong choice in Abdullah as his successor?

It appears that Mahathir believes that he does not have to take any responsibility for that mistake and his present responsibility is to force Abdullah to resign, and by doing that he will do UMNO and the country a great service.

But Mahathir is merely oversimplifying and trying to evade his own responsibility for his own mistakes. UMNO has been very tolerant of him until now. But tolerant may soon become merciless and relentless. By then Mahathir may become a very lonely man.

It is hard to understand why Mahathir chooses to ignore the fact that the fate of a leader can only be decided by the people or party members, not by an individual.

After 3/8 UMNO may have to break away or dissociate from such arrogance and irrationality in order to reinvent itself to be able to move ahead and stay relevant.

Well why should he step down or rather who can (at this moment) push him down – TDM with UMNO division heads disgruntled that they didn’t get positions??? Are present UMNO members supportive of TDM’s call??? Pak Lah is buffered by his number 2 in more ways than one. He has cleverly nominated number 2 to succeed him without telling when. This means that if number 2 is not acceptable for any reason by the rest, there is no one suitable (at the moment) to replace Pak Lah if he is deposed. Even his nemesis Mahathir had admitted at a packed “Umno Post 12th General Election: An Assessment” forum organised by mykmu.net.that “for now, I can’t say who (should replace Abdullah). Although I have said before it should be Najib, I don’t know why for ‘some reason’ I have now changed my mind” he said. (Other than No. 2 who is ‘committed’ to support no. 1, neither Ku Li nor Muhyiddin Yassin has all round support). According to Malaysiakini report by Fauwaz Abdul Aziz | Mar 10, 08 1:12pm – “after attending Umno’s supreme council meeting, Najib said that the party had given its “full support” to Pak Lah to remain as leader. “The Umno supreme council has given its full support to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to remain as the prime minister and Umno president,” Najib said after a meeting of the policy-making body.”And this stance is very important to maintain investor confidence in our country and to allow the party to face all the challenges.” Najib also hoped that there would be “no doubts in Umno leadership and no speculation or effort to change Pak Lah’s leadership”. Pak Lah is more likely threatened by PKR/Anwar securing the 30 + crossovers to precipitate a vote of no confidence on the premier/cabinet than internal rebellion.

Tun Mahathir said Najib is no more his men. Actually TDM will ultimately make Najib to succeed. In order Najib to rollover to the PM’s post, TDM has set the game. TDM has now supported Ku Li to challenge AAB for the UMNO President post in the December 08. Can anyone imagine how this game is going to be played?

Yesterday’s meeting at PWTC, Abdullah has said that his successor will be Najib. Why did he mention Najib’s name? AAB does not want Ku Li to lead UMNO. He wanted others to take over the top post. AAB has no choice and due to the heavy pressure and the move to remove him from the PM’s post by UMNO insiders, he declared openly to acknowledge Najib as his successor.

Now can you analyze how TDM played his cards to get Najib to take over the PM’s post from AAB. TDM made Ku Li as the scapegoat in order for Abdullah to confirm publicly that Najib will be his successor very soon.

This is how TDM announced at his farewell dinner organized by PM’s department after his retirement. After the dinner reporters asked TDM whether you got anything to say. TDM told Abdullah agreed Najib as his deputy. Abdullah got shocked. Abdullah called the press to stop the news appearing in the papers the next day. As the news was on hold for some days, but finally AAB has to accept Najib as his deputy.(highlighted in RPK site)

A lot had been said. Hope PR will not make any wrong move now & also direct all PR MPs/SAs to only reveal that is necessary after consultation with PR-leaders. Do not poke the hornets nest. MSM still spinning & twisting facts. Then again, PM remarks has certainly insulted the intelligence of Sabahans & their MPs, about hopping.

Our PM has been in another planet (more than 4 years) from the remarks he has been making. He really has no idea what he is talking about. He is thinking & talking like an emperor (he also thought he was above the Sultan & King at one stage)…talking about successor. Is he indicating to step down for Najib or indirectly telling Najib to wait “quietly” until next GE?

There will be more boxing matches within UMNO-BN this week. Hope PR will focus on more important issues concerning the rakyat. The next boxing match will be MCA, followed by MIC.

We are seeing Barisan Nasional in her true colours. All the past Prime Ministers from Bapa Malaysia sehingga Tun Hussein Onn did not cause much stir to the country. Then came Tun Mahathir. Then Datuk Badawi. So in this equation, who is the actual problematic one ? Conspiracy of another kind. It was not just Datuk Anwar who was dragged into prison. And now Datuk Badawi being pressured from all sides to step down. If Datuk Badawi does step down, it will be a first in the political history of Malaysia. All the other Prime Ministers were never forced to step down. But Datuk Badawi will be the first if it ever happens. Comparing all these Prime Ministers, their characters were almost the same and they did or do almost the same things except for one who chose to go his way and that is Tun Mahathir. May be Barisan Nasional should ask itself. What sort of a Prime Minister do they want ? Instead of handpicking a successor, the Barisan Nasional should have an election on its’ own to pick the Prime Minister. Then nobody has to be thrown into the prison. Nobody has to be pressured to step down.

PM was really born for politics yesterday. Sabotage is part of political democracy within own party (like a silent vote of no-confidence) & he didn’t know that??? Not only that, he has blamed them for his losses. That’s a no-no. It’s all part of dia-mau-kasi atau tak-mau-kasi lah.

How many times has BN sabotage itself…PM is still living in 2004, dreaming of the 90% majority (he supposedly won). He will wake up one day & say “You mean this was the 12th GE, not the 11th GE???”. This is the only PM that has faced such tremendous pressure after any GE from the Rakyat, from the Royals, from within own party, from former leaders, from Sabah/Sarawak MPs, from the 5-PR states + FT… Hope he won’t OD on panadol.

I don’t really care what those dumbasses in UMNO are doing. Bodohwi is screwed. He never had real political power in the first place. I already suspected as much even before the elections. The moment UMNO people realised that they could no longer milk Bodohwi’s Mr. Clean image, he is gonna get thrown out.

I on the other hand is more interested in what DAP (specifically in Penang) is planning. Call me impatient but i would like to see some progress soon. Right now i am being nice. Another 3 months and if all i see are more politically motivated press statements, issues on former state govs illegal activities etc. i might start uttering profanities against DAP as much as i have uttered profanities against Gerakan.

Please get on to serving the people. Penang state government has got very little in terms of cash. You are gonna have to start thinking really hard and use a lot of imagination on how how to make that stretch.

Please start working on how to address the bread and butter issues.

Please start working on a new working social model for Malaysia. Stop making political statements that alienate Muslim Malays. Malays constitute 70% of the population. If you intend to serve ALL the rakyat, then learn to understand the Malay sensitivities and serve their needs as well … cause they are 70% of the rakyat.

    Time is a-ticking.

The perpetual denial that Ketuanan Melayu ideology is a thing of the past and its refusal to acknowledge it has lost the holy Islamic war to PAS will now be known as “The UMNO dilemma” instead of “The Malay Dilemma”. However, there are similarities in the new dilemma, like its predecessor it is not an incurable disease. A large segment of the population was cured by a tsunami of political awakening that swept across the country on March 8. It is a matter of time before UMNO’s eventual permanent death should it failed to to cure itself from this new disease.

The fight at UMNO today is a battle by both men on behalf of their next generation. One for the SIL and the other for the son. Both have got the same agenda. To take Malaysians to HO-Lan ! When AAB took over, he saw all the glitters being lined up for graps and had he the conscience of a leader, he would have had exposed them after the GE 2004. But he preferred to keep business as usual! Hence after 4 years plus, he could hardly dare to put TDM on investigations which could have put an end to today’s commotion.
So now we have another group who had lost out trying to go on state to state campaigns to oust AAB. They kept saying that Malaysians had sabotaged them !!!!!????
They never look at the mirror and admit that their corruptions were the main factor why the people decided to throw them out!!
I guess they better use their time to clear out all those crooks out of BN, rather than wasting their time seeking some thing they would not find! And by then, maybe DSAI would be already sitting on the PM’s chair!!

I think all in all it should be the end of Racial Based politics. Components of BN are struggling hard to ensure that their party is still revelant to the people by still narrowing issue to the race thing.

Here in future it will be the UMNO vs UMPP (United Malaysian Peoples’s Pact).

    Let us all just shout a loud U.M.P.P !! U.M.P.P !!!

  72. #72 by katdog on Tuesday, 8 April 2008 - 12:30 am

It is too early to declare victory and say it is the end of race based politics. There are still a majority of people who are happy to vote along racial lines. Many of these kinds of voters crossed over in Mar 9 in a protest vote. But after this they will still be happy to go back to race based voting. MCA has always had stronger grassroots support then DAP ever had.

PR has to work hard to prove that a Malaysian Malaysia that will benefit ALL races is a better alternative. It means ALL races have to GAIN from the new Malaysian Malaysia – including the Malays. If UMNO can turn around and miraculously clean shop and offer even more rights to Malays, why should Malays opt for a Malaysian Malaysia then?

UMNO/MCA may be down but don’t count them out yet. PR needs to remain on its toes.

YAB Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi
    Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia.

[I hope your staff who should be reading this blog…convey this note to your goodself.]

Well done, and well spoken. We look forward to replies by Tun, Tengku and YB-to-be..DSAI.

However, I am keen to follow-up on your election promise of a safer Malaysia.

Since March 8th, there are continuous reports of murders, rapes, thefts, robbery…..they paused for a quiet elections and are now back at it!

    My suggestions:

    1. Please act now! Hiring 60000 new police staff is not the answer!

For a start…make crime reporting an urgent matter, with urgent response and quick intervention.
[Police sergeants must be responsive and immediately institute an urgent reaction]

    2. Beef up the Crime Prevention division…immediately
    3. Boost up teh Crime Action Team….if there is one….urgently.
    4. Set up a first class…University of Policing and Internal Security….with degrees, diplomas, masters and PhD….for policing, genetics, sociology, criminal investigation, biotechnology, photography, data base, psychology, forensic medicine, engineering, bachelor of arts, sciences, communications, public relations, weaponry, firearms, explosives, self defence, sports medicine, monitoring sciences, and the list goes on…

    5. Pay the police staff well. The IGP wrote on corruption today. You cannot expect good staff if you pay them pittance…

    Please act urgently, as promised.

    An ordinary citizen…Tim

I wonder what kind of leadership Najib will provide to the BN if he does become the PM… Will BN be able to give PR a good fight for the hearts and mind of the people..

Actually Pak Lah’s policies (eg same system of patronage etc) not different from the Tun. The Tun’s repeated attacks – anointing wrong man as successor – are personal. He feels slighted. Other than outward deference by Pak Lah & UMNO powerbrokers (many whom owe their positions to him) there’s no real deference once he gave up power: eg, his pet projects crooked bridge & Proton put in back burner, amidst ‘hidup Mahathir’, he couldn’t even secure a delegate position in Kubang Pasu! Probably he never wanted to give up power voluntarily. At the time immediately preceding resignation, he sensed impatience and groundswell of discontent against his iron fisted rule, so the gambit was to resign, shore up support and reaffirmation for him to stay and then continue. However something went wrong, he was outmaneuvered and UMNO Supreme Council “accepted” his resignation. Which made him angrier because the great Machiavellian leader had been politically outmanoeuvred. He was and is not ready for retirement (get the honours, Tunship and go into sunset with respect and adulation). Man like him with bountiful energy bordering on excess is never ready. Politics courses through his veins. He, used to dominating everything and everyone, is just not used to be no more in the front line of happenings, or front pages of news and having nothing and nobody to combat against to expend his energy and wits. Handpicked successor, comparatively mild, affable with consensual style, is, until two days ago, a poor sparring partner which only infuriates the Tun more. To rub salt to wound, his successor “released” his nemesis Anwar who is making come back, leading opposition and getting the headlines promising to “undo” the UMNO whose very style of governance is stamped by the Tun’s influence and mark. When he tries to galvanise support to rid the object of his frustrations, he becomes even more frustrated when the guys who used to kiss his hands and feet are “lallang” and not (outwardly) kiss the incumbent’s hands and feet instead. Tun is like a scorned and spurned lover, grumbling the lack of gratitude all around by those whose positions are owed to him. The press he controlled blacked him out and he was humbled to have to resort to Malaysiakini (which he attacked while in power) to voice his grievances. In short he is suffering acutely from what Musa Hitam said a “post-prime-ministerial syndrome”, that gnaws at his spirit and soul. To his detractors, that is retributive “karma” for the kind of legacy he bequeathed to his country men from the policies of his leadership style.

  79. #80 by Jeffrey on Tuesday, 8 April 2008 - 6:37 am

Don’t waste your time hoping for a good leader from BN UMNO…there is none long time ago.

There are many great, competent and silent leaders in the community, charity and corporate organisation. These people are not recognised by the government controlled media.

  81. #82 by Jeffrey on Tuesday, 8 April 2008 - 7:13 am

At first, the PM adopted a “gentler” approach towards his predecessor. He thought people suffering from stress of “post-prime-ministerial syndrome” should be gentler treated. It is ‘kurang ajar’ to attack an elder statesman and a more conciliatory approach was the better course. However this was to no avail because a cantankerous and vindictive spirit could not be appeased and would always bray for blood.

To be sure, Pak Lah inherited a position – prime minister position – which, thanks to his predecessor Machiavellian machinations have been consolidated to a very powerful and unshakable position controlling all levers of power and patronage within the party.

There is noting to suggest Pak Lah has lost grip of his position in spite of calls for his resignation from the Tun, his youngest son Mukhriz, Ku Li , some old veterans like Sanusi Junid and some division heads, disgruntled with no positions. I don’t think these detractors have wide support within UMNO. Pak Lah has also cleverly nominated number 2 to succeed him without telling exactly when in circumstances where the number 2 is not exactly commanding support as viable successor for reasons that you might well speculate. Even the Tun had admitted “for now, I can’t say who (should replace Abdullah). Although I have said before it should be Najib, I don’t know why for ‘some reason’ I have now changed my mind”. The absence of clear alternatives protects the incumbent position – for now. Just lately the Umno supreme council has given its full support to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to remain as the prime minister and Umno president” – per Najib.

Notwithstanding, the Tun’s continued and sustained attacks do pose a clear and present threat in the wake of UMNO’s disastrous performance in last election – especially where fellas over whom he lords, have but only one narrow understanding of what leadership is all about – someone who is assertive, aggressive, wields power and not wishy-washy and mushy talking about consultation and consensus. They want to be sheep led by Shepard, and only Shepard is leader in a feudal political culture. Perception in politics counts.

So post March 8th, it would appear that it is time to take off kids glove and take a more retaliatory stance in relation to the Tun. Whereas it may be thought (pre-election) that elegant silence would be best defence, the more appropriate defence post election may now be to counter attack.

You have been talking to much with so many promises and drawing a huge castle in the air but none of it you have delivered. Pls face the reality, the party and Malaysians wanted to see a new man taking the lead and take us through this critical and humiliating period caused by your weak leadership. We were shocked of how deep you are living in the state of denial, telling ppl BN won and just fell short of eight seats from two third majority. You have created enough unprecedented record of humiliations to the party. If you feel that you are still getting support from part members, we dare you to call for a referendum within the party and see how many members wanted to retain you as president. As a political leader, to stay in power you need opportunity (in this case, you don’t have), to quite you need intelligence ( i supposed you have neither).

“…Pak Lah has finally retaliated – firing back at his chief and unexpected nemesis, his predecessor Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad on all fours.”

This is an act of desperation on the part of AAB. It changes nothing. This man completely failed to see why he was nearly booted out. The people voted him in with an overwhelming majority in 2004 to correct the very excesses of the TDM administrations. He not only did nothing about correcting them, he even tried to perpetuate them by trying to reappoint tainted people like the former CJ and the former DG of Anti Corruption. His actions and decisions, or the lack of it, in the Lingam tape scandal, clearly shows his intentions to stall ( or even hope it will blow over) the investigations.

That, plus his own excesses such as family cronyisms, insensitive frequent holidaying abroad in a new plane bought by taxpayers money (while they suffered fuel and other price hikes), shameless display of hobnobbing and shoulder rubbing with the rich and famous at glitzy functions organised at taxpayers’ expense, all added up to the rakyats’ decision that he needs to go.

The Title ‘March 8 “politic al tsunami” is for change to restore justice, freedom, democracy and good governance and not for Islamic state or hudud laws’ should have read as ‘March 8 “politic al tsunami” is for change to restore justice, freedom, democracy and good governance’, as the rest is understood.

How DAP,PKR and PAS can bring about the change rests squarely on the shoulders of each party. They have no choice but to work together closely to achieve the objective entrusted to them by the voters. Together they determine their collective success or failure and hence the respective party’s success or failure. Highlighting their deep divide on specific issues only raises the voters’ doubt on their ability to cooperate efficiently and meaningfully.

The voters having given the 3 parties the mandate to form coalition government in 4 states had also signaled to and mandated the parties to provide the necessary check and balance to each other to achieve the above objective.

Sadly, DAP appears to have missed the signal and not seen the mandate. Instead of relying on the people’s strong mandate, a golden opportunity given for the first time in DAP’s political history, for confidently working out an equal and meaningful partnership with the other 2 parties, DAP seems to like to highlight its old fear and put itself in a worse position than some of the component parties in BN.

After 3/8, DAP can no longer stand alone in the national political scene. If DAP continues with such a mindset, then it will only help to make itself irrelevant and BN look indispensable.

    Hello PM
No use blaming others when you are currently the PM. You have the resources and the authority to make things right. The fact that you did nothing, you are guilty as the ones you are blaming now.

You have failed the people of Malaysia and by trying to blame someone else just shows what kind of leader you are. How then do you explain that in the last elections, the majority of Malaysians voted against you? Isn’t this an acid test that you have not done what you have promised? In fact, did you do anything at all in the last 4 years?

The people are the best judge of the country’s leaders and the fact that you lost badly in the last elections speak volumes about your leadership. If you have any honour left, you should now do the right thing and correct all the wrongs. But knowing the kind of leader you are, I get the feeling that my fellow Malaysians will be left wanting.

I do not agree with Karpal Singh’s proposal to inquire into Dr M’s actions in the past. The past is the past. Let bygones be. Dr Mahathir’s intention to criticise Abdullah is only so that our country can have a better Prime Minister. Can’t Karpal Singh understand that? We, the younger generation, do not care so much of whatever happened in the past as our concern for the future. Mahathir understands that and Karpal Singh and Pak Lah and some others clearly do not.

I hope -you Lim Kit Siang and your son will understand that and stop Karpal Singh from harping on the Ops Lalang or other actions by Mahathir. He is not the issue. He is the past. Let’s not dwell on the past. On the other hand, Pak Lah IS the current prime minister and whether you agree or not, HE IS the issue. Specifically, his lack of leadership in steering the county’s economy and his inability to handle issues.

    Best regards

Whoever leads UMNO should be left to their own members’ decision. Outsiders/members do not have part to play in their internal party matters.

So whether Najib or Muhyddin or Mike Tyson becomes the president of UMNO is non of outsiders business.

They have to sort out their squables and we can watch from the sideline if we want or if we find interesting. Otherwise, leave them alone, though we ever becomes the president of UMNO would most likely becomes the Prime Minister of the country.

Until such time let them wrangle each other themselves and wash all their dirty linens in the public until they are scot clean.

Disgrace to the rakyat and Chinese community especially after so many controvertial issues bought up in the Parliament last year and those MPs doing nothing keeping mum just warming their sits. Waste of taxpayers money! Honourable Chua Soi Lek has started the ball rolling. Hope new replacement will be leaders with character and principle like CSL. Leaders who serve the country and rakyat whole heartedly and willing to relinguish their position and accept responsibilities. Highest respect to CSL no matter what he did in the hotel room.

Yes, TDM is trying to put the blame of his misdeeds on AAB. Just set up an Royal commission to check on TDM and you can find out all his legacy. All the privatisaion (or piratisation!), cronysim, abuse of power, etc. were introduced during his time. AAB should have gotten rid of his predecessor’s legacies as soon as he won the GE in 2004. However, he was too timid to offend his predecessor and also allowed his relative to copy the corrupt practices. It may be too late if he does not own up that corrupt and unfair practices among the BN and its officials are the main cause of his his disasterous loss in the 2008 GE.

Is only TDM to be given this immunity from accounting or all prime ministers, past present and future? Would not immunity encourage abuse? I am inclined to think that from limited standpoint of Tun Dr Mahathir (“TDM”)’s interest (as distinct from rakyat’s), he ought to have listened to counsel of his lawyers not to write the letter to The Sun 8th April page 16.

Not much good to him would emanate from publicly responding to former UN special rapporteur Param Cumaraswamy’s refreshment of public memory – that during Anwar’s second trial in June 2000 before Justice Arifin Jaka, then ACA director Shafee Yahya had given sworn testimony that TDM had ordered him to halt an investigation on then Economic Planning Unit (EPU) director-general Ali Abu Hassan Sulaiman (which, if true, constitutes an offence of abuse of power under the Anti Corruption Act which was invoked against Anwar).

Police reports alleging that TDM had interfered with ACA investigations were filed the day after the court testimony – on June 13, 2000. However because then ACA director Shafee Yahya’s sworn testimony was subject of allegation, the ACA passed the probe to the police to avoid conflicts of interest in investigations.

Now with thing blowing up publicly, people will ask what happened to the police investigations alleging that TDM had interfered with ACA investigations???

TDM should not be under an illusion that he is still powerful. In fact he has repeatedly hurled accusations of Abuse Of Power And Malpractices at the administration of the very one holding such levers of power to investigate and charge, thus tempting fate and retaliation….

TDM’s visceral dislike of lawyers – from Param Cumaraswamy to Karpal Singh – and this feeling that he could outwit, out talk, out smart and out testify them and their legal mumbo jumbo (as evinced by the famour “I can’t remember” in the Lingam Video clip commission’s hearing), and that he would confront head-long against any of their challenges and provocations and emerge victorious, is surely pushing him over the edge to skate on the thin ice of self imperilment.

I find Pak Lah’s retaliation is valid considering the fact of how he has been mocked by his own predecessor. Mahathir’s criticism is too much to bear and anyone in Pak Lah shoes would do the same.
We must not forget, this new found freedom we have now wouldn’t have been possible if not for Pak Lah. He made numerous blunders in his administrative and leadership approach but at the same time gave us the little space to voice our dissatisfaction in public which Mahathir would have used his normal highhanded method shutting all of us one way or another. In the case of Najib the PM had to declare him as his natural successor in order insure/ensure Najib’s support. I see that as plain political.
In my mind I think like anybody else Pak Lah too has his agenda that is teaching BN and UMNO a lesson by deliberately annoying people so that reform can be pushed by people as well. Otherwise how could it be possible for him to do something that we ordinary citizens see as so foolish especially with all advisers around?

Willing buyer and willing seller or armslength transaction. Did ACA act according to this?

A politician caught hand-carry Million to oversea and the other having thousand of dollar at the drawer unexplained. Isn’t this is sufficient for ACA to take action. Isn’t there is public audit committee? Isn’t there is IRB department? Isn’t there is money laundry act?

Only if there is provision in the law governing the government officer on transaction not in the armslength, no way any corruption case of the those corrupted politician can be make liable. Even so, any law to make them pay back the people’s hard earned tax money?

Borrow a space in this forum.

Can anyone tell what is the provision to punish the decision maker if there is an instruction to go ahead with project found to be not at armslength basis? Cases like aparment at putrajaya and PKFZ as reported.

There is no law in Malaysia

Look at your ex-Selangor Chief Minister (Taib) [deleted]. He is worth a few billions. Unfortunately he was caught with a few millions pocket money in Australia.

Did ACA or Pak Lah (Mr. Clean) do anything?

Pak Lah isn’t shaping up well within his own political party at the moment – Kedah and Penang UMNO have already agitated for Badawi to step down.

YB, Following up on what lchk posted, the political developments within UMNO (eg the assigning of blame on the Prime Minister, imposition of transition plan on him, and continuous pressure of TDM for his ouster and the imminent prospect of that succeeding in less than 6 months) and Federal’s withholding of state funding starting with tourism projects are all very disconcerting and, in my opinion, signify that the ruling coalition is not coming to terms with its need to reform, and instead work to thwart all reforms initiated by the PM if not a harbinger of a clampdown by his successor to come thereafter….Although in normal circumstances, many would have misgivings as regards party- hopping, however based on the turn of events lately on the other side, there is fast emerging a compelling reason for them to reconsider their stand of supporting Pakatan Rakyat to take the initiative, on the balance of greater good of Rakyat – and the Cause of Reforms –, for the vying for Federal Government immediately after 15th April, by even such an unorthodox and questionable method….

Sorry should be “…to reconsider their stand, to support Pakatan Rakyat instead to take the inititative….”

    Pak Lah forgot.

He only got 48% popular vote in West Malaysia. 52% of the people have rejected him.

He should be the PM for East Malaysia now. What more can he shout about anymore. Talking of having a strong mandate from the people and still command popular support ? He must be in his dream.

He does not seems to know his figures. Can someone educate him please ?
