The Speaker, Tan Sri Ramli Talib did not instantly reject the privilege motion under Standing Order 26(1)(p) when it was tabled by DAP MP for Batu Gajah Fong Po Kuan who had stood up in the Dewan Rakyat when it started its meeting yesterday at 10 am to refer the two sexist Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs for making crude, derogatory, sexist and offensive remarks directed at Po Kuan in particular and women in general.

Instead, Ramli asked for time for him to announce his decision at 2.30 pm.

This could only mean that Ramli was convinced of the strength and merit of Po Kuan’s complaint — which was indeed very serious with sexist MPs abusing their parliamentary privilege to denigrate a woman MP, which is also a slur to all Malaysian women — that he did not immediately dismiss Po Kuan’s application.

It is both wrong and unfortunate that in the end, Ramli decided to “knock out” Po Kuan’s privilege motion on a ground of technicality, ignoring the substantive complaint and leaving unresolved two issues:

  • The public dishonouring and humiliation of Po Kuan because she is a woman MP by two sexist BN MPs;
  • The misuse and abuse of their parliamentary privilege to besmirch and dishonour Parliament in demeaning and degrading the highest political and legislative chamber in the land to make crude, vulgar, sexist and offensive remarks.
  • The insult not only to Po Kuan but to all Malaysian women, making this year’s Mother’s Day the most meaningless one, when Parliament could be exploited to make vulgar, derogatory and sexist remarks.

I am particularly disappointed that no woman BN MP had stood up in solidarity with Po Kuan and all Malaysian women who were insulted by the two sexist BN MPs.

Is there not a single woman BN MPs who will stand up to speak up for women dignity and condemn the two sexist BN MPs for their derogatory, crude, sexist and offensive remarks about Fong Po Kuan?

I have received information that international women groups are horrified by the disgraceful episode in Parliament yesterday and they will be making public their condemnation of the sexist misconduct of the two BN MPs.

With 91% parliamentary majority of BN, there is no access to justice and fair play in Parliament. It is now left to ordinary Malaysians all over the country to redeem the honour of Parliament and dignity of women in Malaysia by speaking up to demonstrate support and solidarity with Po Kuan and condemnation of the two sexist BN MPs for their derogatory and sexists remarks which insult all Malaysian women.

Po Kuan announced in Parliament yesterday that she will be heading a DAP protest campaign to make Malaysians aware of the injustices faced by women not only in the country but even in Parliament, and to mobilize national support both women and men to demand that the two sexist BN MPs should not be allowed to get away with their despicable conduct with impunity.

The protest campaign will start in Po Kuan’s constituency in Batu Gajah on Sunday night. However, even before the start of the formal campaign on Sunday, DAP in Ipoh Timur will extend full pre-campaign support and solidarity to Po Kuan at the ceramah at the DAP Pasir Pinji Branch, Ipoh tomorrow (Saturday) night.

Yes, a protest must be made especially in those two idiot’s constituencies. Here is a suggestion, drive a van with a wide screen TV mounted on top and max out the volume. Play and loop the video showing those two idiots saying tt “leaking” insult.
Make sure they pay for their insult. Also, show Ramli Talib rejecting the motion to censure those two blistering idiots. Juz to show how spineless n equally morally corrupt he is.
But then of course, I am quite sure the police will be roped in to stop you from doing this.
Well, since we cant sell pirated vcd, might as well make lots n lots of copies of them n then distribute to everyone’s house for free.

Well done BN…….by showing strong solidarity to humiliate innnocent and defenseless women!

Bankrupt of ideas to improve the country, this is their greatest victory so far to insult, degrade and humiliate innocent women in general.

There is no moral leadership in the country.

  3. #3 by sotong on Friday, 11 May 2007 - 2:58 pm

Now they can go home and look into their mothers, wives, sisters or daughters’ eyes with great satisfaction of what they said to insult and humiliate women.

  4. #4 by a-malaysian on Friday, 11 May 2007 - 3:05 pm

DAP please update your protest schedule. I am from Penang and will support the protest even though I am a man because I have daughters and mother too.

On a side note: Do not forget to boycott the racist bank even though they had withdrawn their racist policy. Anyone take up my offer to start a boycott blog? We have to continue to resist the discrimination and racist policies endorsed by bn.

    50 years is ENOUGH

It is time the ordinary people take control of their future to determine the kind of environment they want to live in and bring up their childrens.

Nobody wants grossly arrogant, aggressive and insensitive people, let alone irresponsible and incompetent, to represent them and the country.

What kind of “integrity” are they showing the whole country and world? Is this what “Islam Hadhari” is all about? More corruption, more mismanagement, more lies, more arrogance? Shame and disgrace on BN and the AAB leadership! AAB and BN ministers, do you regard your own mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, and granddaughter, as “bitches” who “leak every month”? Do the UMNO, MCA, and MIC women ministers regard themselves in the same manner?

Well, this disgraceful news is all over the world now. How can a ruling government bring shame to one’s own country?

  9. #9 by babooninthejungle on Friday, 11 May 2007 - 3:29 pm

right. I have got a bee in my bonet about this issue. (I’m a guy by the way)

Are these the kind of people we want to lead our country? They may be mere MPs for their respective constituencies, but never the less, leaders representing their comunities. Derogatory words like this uttered by public servants (yes, they are public servants voted into office by the raykat) brings shame to our country.

How can they not be “punished” for saying words like this? Not even a slap on the wrist? Not even an appology? Would they utter those same words to their mother? Wives? Sisters? Daughters? And make a mockery of what is nature? Sexist pigs the lot of them.

They are leaders, for pete sake. LEADERS! Adults! Educated men (i presume). This behaviour is that of a child, nay, gangster, uneducated, uncivilised barbarians! And our estute PM is not doing anything about it? If this was any other parliment, office, board, gathering of adults discussing important issues, these 2 men would have been given the good ole boot up the good ole place where the sun dont shine.

This only reflects on our government, and what they see as important issues. (i guess nothing is important to them except that they are being paid to insult the intelligence of the people that voted them into office)

They are a disgrace to our country and should be stripped of their office. Mr PM, Do somthing and make an example of these 2 (deleted)! Uncle Lim, keep fighting the good fight.

  10. #10 by a-malaysian on Friday, 11 May 2007 - 3:58 pm

negarawan, thanks for the link, that says it all.

[Law Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz told The Associated Press that such remarks were “part and parcel of parliamentary debate,” and women should not be treated with more sensitivity than men.]

[“This is a debate. People play with words,” he said. “As long as there is no ill intention, we should allow for it. Otherwise parliament will be very boring.”]

bn can twist and turn all their wrong doing into rightous holy things.

Let just imagine if these words are to be from the oppositions, in which way are they going to twist? The answer is surely to try and get them suspended.

  11. #11 by marmitecrab on Friday, 11 May 2007 - 4:02 pm

I truly sympathise with the opposition. Not because of the things that are posted here but because the comments were made in response to a legitimate question. I as a taxpayer would want to know how my tax dollars are spent and the opposition is doing that for me. Thank you.

But to make derogatory, personal remarks like that is unacceptable. Looks like parliament does not only condone “close one eye” but both eyes. So sad.

  12. #12 by ethnicmalaysian on Friday, 11 May 2007 - 4:14 pm

It’s clear that the Umno MPs are unable to see why those sort of comments are offensive and unacceptable. They honestly cannot see what the fuss is all about and will in their minds, see this instead as a DAP gimmick for political mileage. I see the same disconnect in corruption and the wonderful euphemistic term ‘money politics’. They are religious and all, but have no compulsion whatsoever in giving and accepting bribes. I have the same in the business world many times over.
Why is this so? Is this an issue of education, mindset, upbringing, cultural environment, exposure to the outside world? If so, then I see little hope for Malaysia as these are deep seated issues. If this is how far we’ve come (or regressed) in the last 50 years, what then for the future? Doesn’t bode well does it.

  13. #13 by gerald on Friday, 11 May 2007 - 4:19 pm

Remember the 2 MCA Penang state assemblymen who were suspended for not voting against an opposition motion ? Fear factor lah. Better keep quiet than kena hantam by the party whip. More so when the next election is just around the corner. You think we BN women MPs so stupid meh?

  14. #14 by lakshy on Friday, 11 May 2007 - 4:47 pm

In one word — NO. No BN MP will stand up because they cannot cross party lines. They cannot vote according to their conscience as that is what Bn says they must do.

And we the rakyat deserve this for putting them there in the first place.

We all know about Male Chauvinism..its in all men and only those foolish enough to display them in public are to be condemned! It is in the nature but being civilised and having to realized that women are also capable in contributing to the Country’s economy, law is amended to provide fair and just equal opportunity for both sexes. In the parliment situation, heated argument, uncontrollable urge to use words that isnt found in the dictionary is bound to happen. I am not sure what interest the Kinabatangan MP has over Putrajaya but he seems zealously defending the Contractors. Our DAP lady needs to be tough like the men in the parliment, you can respond to the dumbF by saying ” Those monthly leaking period, if where you dumbF come from, if your mom would have known what you said, she will disown you” ( just example, you must not be afraid of your sexuality and acknowledge your role of giving birth is a gift.” You be proud of it..instead of crying foul over the remark made by the dumbF.) It is not that no women BN MP want to stand up in solidarity with Po Kuan and all Malaysian women who were insulted by the two sexist BN MPs. The whip has overpower their conscience. That mechanism has been built in them so that all BN MPs lost their conscience and become robots just to serve the interests of their masters.

Many of us are angry and sad for having these two bums sitting in the august house of parliament as YB.I think they have really put their constituients to shame for having elected them.Fortunately these two idiots have not been made public officials such as parliamentary secretaries or ministers. But their foolish utterences in the parliament have done untold damage to their community in particular and the whole nation in general. Why and how Malaysia aspiring to be a developed nation can afford to have such ‘orang bodoh’ as MPs?Don’t tell me the country was so scarce of talents that we had to swallow ourselves with these stupid stuff?

The women BN MPs had no guts to defend their counterpart simply because she was not from their camp.So this in fact is another shame on them especially the MCA women hypocrites.

Anyway we pray these two idiots will not be given another chance

  22. #22 by Tom Peters on Friday, 11 May 2007 - 7:00 pm

Dear Kit Siang, where I come from, Po Kuan is much loved and held in high regard, therefore, it is understandable that we are enraged.

Thank you for highlighting this episode, but only to provoke a discussion on ‘insults’ and for that, we must regain objectivity and view Po Kuan as a statistic.

Like Sheena Moorthy before her, the only reason Po Kuan felt insulted, offended and if not frightened, is because she unwittingly parried herself at level with the person communicating with her.

If she parried herself above the mental frequency of this fellow, she would have understood him perfectly and retained the ability to analyze the nature and background of the communication, while mindful of the threat of physical harm, such people may resort to when analyzed in this fashion.

A higher register would have also offered Po Kuan a state of mind which is insult, offense and fright proof. Of course if, for some queer reason, she finds herself parried below this fellow, he will appear to her to be communicating gibberish, but given her pedigree, such a situation is neither apparent nor possible in this context.

May I offer a crude analogy intended with no satire or offense to animal lovers.

A trained vicious dog threatens Po Kuan with its bite. Akin to first-aid, being insult, offense and fright proof are pre-requisites. Thereafter, to treat the malaise and prevent the canine from being a veritable nuisance to society, Po Kuan has to consider offering it a bone, understanding its territorial instincts and seriously consider re-training the rogue.

Kit Siang, it’s an exhaustive topic, but in essence, when someone, whom you perceive as trash, insults, offends or even frightens you at his pleasure, then if you are indeed insulted, offended or frightened, you assume the status of the trash.

Po Kuan dear, we trust you will treat this malaise from a higher register. We, down below, are enraged because we love you.

“Po Kuan dear, we trust you will treat this malaise from a higher register. We, down below, are enraged because we love you.”

Much more disquieting, more troubling is the fact that women MPs from among the government backbenchers did not see it fit to rise and object to the language used. ‘Sexist’ is a gross understatement. Derogatory use of the word ‘bocor’ is more like it. What ‘leak’? Has she been leaking government secrets?? Then say so.

Now not only we have clowns but also male chauvinist pigs under the cover of parliamentary privilege taking the opportunity to throw insults. Is there anything new?

They should be terminated as MP.

I dont say all the BN MPs are bad. Some are actually honest and good, but being silent by the majority or face taking action.

There are a few layers in BN that require restructuring. First, remove racist,
    second remove sexist,
    thirdly remove idiots.

If they fit into all three, they are highly worth terminated.

Where’s BN’s maciks Rafidah Aziz and Sharizat? It’s about time they and her wanitas stand up for Fong Po Kuan irrespective of their political beliefs and ideology. By keeping quiet shows that they support and condone such disrespectful actions by their BN collegues. Shameful indeed!

This is not the first time those BN chauvinistic pigs uttered such derogatory remarks against Fong Po Kuan; the previous was Thong Fah Chong when he was MP for Ipoh Timor. He thought he got away and felt so good about it, little did he realise that his sexist remark angered the Malaysian women population and it dearly cost him his Ipoh Timor seat! Malaysian women made sure he was political histroy.

To the BN MPs – Kinabatangan and Jasin, let me suggest you go home and repeat to your mothers that shameful, vulgar and sexist remark you uttered in Parliament against MP for Batu Gajah, Ms Fong Po Kuan. This is not the first time that they are leaking in their brain. I remember sometime ago an MP also directed at Teresa Kok ” Bagi masuk sedikit”. Obviously these idiots have leaks in their small brain and the one eye Jack should have been kicked out of Parliament long ago if we have a a government who upholds dignity and trust from the People, but unfortunately we have a half past six government leading a pack of “cow sense” MPs who has expired leaking brains just like an expired leaking battery which is of no use but poisonous.
The leakages in all females until menopause are physiologically a gift by God for the purpose of sustaining humankind but those that had leakages in their brain are a curse from God for the purpose of making a fool of themselves.

    pwcheng,

The “bagi masuk sedikit” remark some years back, was it made on Teresa Kok or Fong Po Kuan? I thought it was the latter? Or was it Teresa?

Yes, he offended Malaysian women and they made their known their anger by voting out Thong Kah Chong who was then MP for Ipoh Timur. They refused to have anything to do with him; he was abusive, arrogant and rotten, and not being liked.

“The leakages in all females until menopause are physiologically a gift by God for the purpose of sustaining humankind but those that had leakages in their brain are a curse from God for the purpose of making a fool of themselves” – pwcheng.

If menstruation were “physiologically a gift by God for the purpose of sustaining humankind” why are you guys so ashamed of it to make a big issue over what that two ‘dumbf’ jokers said?

I guess this is what Tom Peters meant by responding on a “higher register”.

Kinabatangan and Jasin MPs love the attention. You guys are giving it to them. They don’t deserve it. The attention that they are getting will only encourage them to make more sexual innuendoes about women in the future.

People are outraged here. Not because “to analogize the perforation in the plumbering system of a building structure directly to the very femininely defined function of a woman’s hormonal cycle with its periodic fruition” is plainly wrong in facts.

It is because menstruation is considered a sensitive and private (closet) matter for females and to say it publicly in a manner of making fun of it (as what the two dumbf had done) is to desecrate female modesty, privacy and the whole works.

Kinabatangan and Jasin precisely capitalise on that collective feeling of shame about female menstruation. They are very dumb or have turned philosophers. They are laughing at all of us.

They are saying if female menstruation is a natural process, and according to pwcheng a “physiological gift by God for the purpose of sustaining humankind”, why is their reference to it by way of joke such a big deal of an insult to women, and why are you gentlemen defending their modesty, unless women themselves are dumb to consider their own natural biological function a shameful one, not to be acknowledged or publicly exposed?

This where they’re coming from. Pray answer this challenge.

The two idiotic wakil rakyat besides making the recent sexist, derogatory and brainless remarks against YB Fong have also in the past stunned the house by passing unwarranted remarks against the opposition. We really doubt the mentality of the people who nominated them as candidates for wakil rakyat and also the voters who cast votes for them.Don’t be awed by their titles because every Tom,Dick and Harry also got that title once elected except those from Dap.

I fully support YB Fong’s protest campaign. Such detestful and shameful attitude from the BN politicians and their abuse of Parliament must be brought to the public’s attention. We cannot expect the very “professional” but cowardly mainstream media to highlight such matters in the press unless a protest campaign is held.

Do it nationwide. This is the right time to show women voters how their rights are being insulted by sexist BN MPs whose very answers clearly indicates what filth runs in their minds at all times. And compounding the problem is their lack of thought process that allows such filth to spew from their mouths.

You could expect more “remarks” like that in the future where these types of people would think these types of “women” are nothing to them.

Because of the culture of having “Datuk” or “Dato”, they could say anything. You could expect no one would fire them back.

When Mr Lee Kuan Yew said that Chinese in Malaysia are marginalised systematically, all Chinese based politicians fired back Mr Lee.

Now, you could expec these Chinese based politicians will be quiet.

The UMNO is strong and Gerekan, MCA and MIC will always want to get near to UMNO.

UMNO does not consist of several political parties.

If non Malay political parties like Gerakan and MCA and MIC as well as DAP team up, you could see the “2 third” would be denieid.

The fact is Those Gerakan, MCA and MIC, etc. would not think out of the box.

As population growth continue to show Chinese would become minority later, you could expect “you are nothing” “Keep your mouth shut” from these UMNO MPs.

Forget about the leaking issue of government buildings.

Let it be. Uncle Lim. Nothing to gain from arguing with those “respectable MP”. No matter what happen, they would show self-righteousness, they are always right, they are always reasonable.

The public knows the lousiness and corrupted of them. The public always know they are practicing protectionism toward their group of people.

Less shouting and arguing with them to avoid high blood pressure.

You guys along with Peter Sellers need to grow up, and grow up fast. This is not about the woman menstrual cycle deemed as monthly leakages.

We don’t need to hear lengthy debates on how important as a biological function it is in the process of reproduction, what it is and what it means etc. You’re missing the point here.

The point here is that it is a welcome distraction from the real problem which is that government expenditure on repairs of government buildings has reached astronomical proportions – how astronomical it is can be glimpsed from the figure quoted by the Works Minister needed to have the jpb dpme. This is the leakage we should be concerned about; ‘bocor’ unfortunately iin Malay has its uses and misuses.

‘Bocor’ rahsia is one. ‘Bocor’ to mean you snitch on a friend is another. Bocor segala bocor i.e. the mother of all ‘bocor’ may have any meaning you may want to give to it. ‘Bocor’ also may refer to somebody having to take a leak after lots of drinking.

It may not be derogatory depending on its context.

i never think that in the place such as parliament which come out with this kind of statement for TWO so call “DATUK”, even the secondary student can know what is mean by the so-called “DATUK”. where is the moral and ethic of the MP, is that what the MP should be?

That really disrespect the all the woman, he didn;t think the consequences of that phase..I hoped that this kind of attitude should not be shown in the parliament…disappointed

    YB LKS,
Please do refrain your time with those MPs whom are instruments of BN VVIPs to kill off the allocated time in Parliament sittings.
I know it’s not an easy task for you and your team. It’s like the statement shared, MONKEY SEES, MONKEY DO. That’s what they are taking you guys for in each Parliament sittings.
They lead you all into subjects that they are happily controlling.
Your sharing is great enough for ALL concerned Malaysian to understand what is going wrong in Parliaments. Please continue with these great works and thanked each of the opposition MPs and representatives for their time and effort to be presence in each sittings. We all know for that , It’s matter most for ALL Malaysian.

sex is a sensitive issue and censored on TV, mainstream media etc. So are too remarks and any connotations related to sexual organs and their function.

Remarking a woman leaks once every month during her menstrual cycle is like making a remark a guy’s sexual organ being too small.
    It’s highly derogatory and personal.

And the manner, this is handled makes the double standard applied, all to clear and familiar.

Young ppl hold hands also cannot, but the MPs can make all sorts of remarks about a woman’s periodic cycle. Shake head…

evidence of our uncivilized and uneducated and shameless MPs are now free for all to see…
