39-Day Countdown to 13GE: Proposal for an all-party council to help deal with Sulu Sabah crisis and call on Najib to make immediate extended visit to Sabah

While Malaysians are still mourning the death of two national heroes, elite police commandos Insp Zulkifli Mamat 29 and Sabaruddin Daud 46 who were killed in the shootout in Kampung Tanduo in Lahad Datu on Friday morning with Sulu armed intruders, with three other commandoes injured, the nation is shocked this morning at the news that there have been another two police casualties in Semporna last evening.

Malaysians woke up this morning to the sad news that “Cop killed in Semporna, another injured in gunfight with militants” (TMI) but by noon time, the police confirmed that there were two policemen who were killed in an ambush in Kampung Seri Jaya Siminul, a village on stilts above the water, in Semporna at about 6.30 pm last evening – and that a third is fighting for his life at the general hospital in Semporna.

But worse were to come, when Malaysians learnt of the news of the first joint press conference by the police and army in Felda Sahabat Residence, Lahad Datu after the three-week stand-off with armed Sulu intruders at Kampung Toudou, as reflected in the following Malaysiakini reports:

Five cops killed in Semporna ambush, says IGP

IGP: More armed intruders have landed

Army General: Intruders ‘well-trained’

It is also reported of another landing by intruders in Kunak.

Last night I received reports of two police casualties in the clash in Semporna and I am sure this information would have been passed around Sabah last evening, raising the question of credibility and reliability of official information about the Sulu crisis in Sabah.

The official authorities should realise that in this era of instant information and communication, there is a need to revise and modernise their pre-information era policies and practices to ensure their own credibility.

Patriotic Malaysians have many questions about the handling of three-week stand-off with the Sulu armed intruders in Lahad Datu and whether the casualties of the security forces could have been avoided if the whole situation had been properly handled right from the beginning.

These doubts and queries, however legitimate, must now take second place, as there is no doubt that the country is faced with a crisis involving national sovereignty and the people’s security which must take topmost priority.

I proposes an all-party council be formed, with representatives from both the ruling and opposition coalitions, to help deal with the Sulu Sabah crisis to show the world that Malaysians, regardless of political affiliation, race, religion or region, are united as one in protecting the sovereignty of the nation and the security of the people.

I have two other proposals on the Sulu Sabah crisis to give full support to the military and police personnel who are in the frontline defending the national sovereignty with their lives:

• An emergency meeting of Parliament which should be convened within the week, even on 8th March 2013 to mark the fifth anniversary of the 2008 general elections, to tell the nation and the world that although the country is facing the 13th general elections, Malaysians regardless of political affiliation, race, religion or region, are united and solid in defending the national sovereignty and people’s security with regard to the Sulu Sabah crisis;

• The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak should make an immediate extended visit to Sabah to allay the concerns and unease of Sabahans at the various incidents of intrusion into Sabah and the security of the people in Sabah.

///KANGAR, March 3 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today strongly condemned the statement by PKR vice-president Tian Chua accusing Umno of having orchestrated the gun battle with armed intruders in Lahad Datu, Sabah.

He said the allegation was a despicable political game by the opposition to garner the people’s support in view of the approaching general election.

“They (the opposition) are accusing the government of staging a drama. It is a great lie and falsehood. Even in the Memali incident, the opposition put the blame on the government.

“We (the government) did not do any such thing. We never politicise our security because it involves human lives,” he said when launching the Perlis-level “Promises Fulfilled” tour programme, here. ///–MalaysianInsider

Good. I take this to mean that Najib will not declare emergency on Sabah incidents. Thank you Tian Chua for forcing the statement from Najib who would not want to declare that he would accept election results and ensure smooth transfer of power when BN loses.

Hello Najib, ask Singapore for help. Use their AWACS to see the ground situation.

Can immobilise them with tear gas or C4 or not?

Aiyoyo, why must laymen advise you half-past six professionals how not to put Malaysian police, armed forces and people in harm’s way.

    BN betul-betul tak guna-lah.

You see the ant. First of all, it is just one ant that scouts out the area. Then, a few more ants. Then, one string of ants. So when you see just one ant runing here and there, what must you do ?

Probably we should re-visit how Israel handle their enemy attacks.
APCO should be able to provide some guidance and tactics on this issue.
Singapore army are being trained in Israel, probably they could lend a hand!
I am not sure of our army and police competencies……can they fight or NOT?

UNBELIEVABLE in the midst of being attacked by armed intruders, these BN proven traitors seems fit to announce and launch and investigation into the opposition. The security and safety of Sabahans and the dangers our forces faces don’t merit all their attention they have to drag the opposition in their sorry mess to hide their sorry asses…

Najib said…the accusation that Anwar encouraged the Sulus to go to war must be investigated…immediately.
Tons of accusations thrown at him….on murder and corruptions…all settled with his swearing in mosque…so truthful…accepted…..end of story…..but the story keep going….no ending….and no investigations by MACC.

For 80 years Sabah was peaceful and enjoyed prosperity and so did London. Not a word of protest from the Sulu Sultanate as to sovereignty. North Borneo under rule of a Queen, with its own Borneo currency, postal stamps, tax system and judiciary- a tribal clan is now staking claim? It is obvious the Treaty of 1881 (giving up north east borneo) was to stop the British Fleet expanding onto Jolo Mindanao heartland. And the ‘tribute’ of a few thousand dollars paid to the Sultan was a ‘face-saving’ move as practised in Asia. (The Sulu Sultanate would have no chance resisting the British colonisers as experienced by them 300 years earlier under the Spanish King).
And the last 30years the BN UMNO failed miserably to protect the sovereignty. And the implicated ex PM (M project) has the cheek to support PM they had worked very hard to maintain peace.

    • #20 by cemerlang on Sunday, 3 March 2013 - 5:24 pm

Since it is a territorial dispute, the Sulu Sultan should just go right up to the United Nations. He must have some hard evidence though. But again, since the people of Lahad Datu has been with Malaysia for years, doubtfully they want this Sultan to be their leader.

  15. #21 by monsterball on Sunday, 3 March 2013 - 5:37 pm

It must be sweet music to Najib.
Meanwhile…blame game… targeting Anwar to make it sweeter.
38 days to the polls….we are seeing the signs of Emergency Rule …no 13th GE.

  16. #22 by ENDANGERED HORNBILL on Sunday, 3 March 2013 - 6:28 pm

Oh, oh…Mahathir would be pleased if National Operations Council or something like that is activated to govern the country till GE is called!

Maybe, they will make mahathir President of the Council for life so that this mahaguru can continue his Project IC?

Ah-C-4 is keeping it at arms length, not to be drawn into directly and taking a “spectator seat” to slowly ‘milked’ the situation. All as if he is awaiting it’s further development which followed the sequence of event from the start, the response and actions taken by Ah-C-4 ? ( no, MaMak Kutty at the back !). The KRIS guy is there to prolong, drawn the happening further with no intention to forsee an immediate end. Otherwise, under such an INVASION any “Leader – ‘PM’ ” would step up to address the nation and the ARMY, NAVY could be called in to content, assess the situation immediately. ( FLUSH THEM OUT ! – with minimum risk exposure ie. AFTER reconnoitre, encirclement,,, BUT patrolling ??? – risking life ??? (NOW, LIFE BEING SACRIFICE ! )
ALL DOES NOT ADD UP AS AH-C-4 IS TAKING THE MATTER SERIOUSLY IN THE FIRST INSTANT !!! – LIKE WAITING FOR IT’S FURTHER DEVELOPMENT ??? ( INVASION ! , DIRECTIVE -just empty words DOES NOT MATCH THE ACTIONS AT ALL !!! )

Four Malaysian officials have allegedly been nabbed by Filipino Muslim militants claiming ownership over Sabah. This is no good news as the captives will be used as hostages or rather, a bargaining chip and this will complicate things.

  19. #25 by yhsiew on Sunday, 3 March 2013 - 6:55 pm

It was speculated that Malaysia was willing to act as a peace mediator between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic rebel movement because President Aquino has agreed not to revive claim on Sabah.

THIS is going to be so bad for Najib. They are connecting this with Project IC, with Scorpene (and even Altantuya C4!), Musa Aman and his cheating relative, even Selangor electoral roll, etc. etc..

And we have not gotten to the impact in Sabah such as tourism, investments, labor problems, etc..

There is just too many negative ways this can be linked to Najib and UMNO/BN

The project IC (an UMNO Project) has made it more difficult for the Police to solve the problem..

Do you know how many citizens of Sulu Sultanate are holding Malaysian IC now? Since they are holding Malaysian ICs, they can move freely among the Malaysians… Perhaps they can join the Malaysian Police Force or Malaysian Army too since they were “converted to Malaysian” by Mahathir…. But who are they loyal to? to Malaysia or their Sultan?……. So this Sultan’s Army can easily get help and information from “insider” , that the can launch attack in Semporna…. whose fault? Is is Anwar’s fault?
UMNO must be punished compromising the security of the country by giving illegal citizenship to the illegal immigrants including those from Sulu..

Just like the Malay’s very own story of PAK KADUK….. UMNO IS COMPARABLE TO PAK KADUK in project IC…..MENANG PILIHAN RAYA DI SABAH, KEDAULATAN DAN KESELAMATAN NEGARA TERGADAI

All is not well for Anwar over ‘unnamed’ intelligence source insinuating that he is the mastermind for the invasion. While the motives are sort of absurd, it will not stop the BN government from taking action against the opposition leader when the slightest chance possible. The 13th GE is win or die for BN and its leaders, they are going for a checkmate. If Anwar manage to stay free, will the situation in Sabah escalated and spillover to Sarawak? The possibility of the 13th GE being postponed due to state of emergency is real, curtailment of online news media will follow, and will this end the hope for a change of government in 2013? I hope not.
