What impression have we given to Chinese Premier Wen Jiaboa – a government crazed with sex scandals than with enhancing Malaysia’s multi-racial national unity or international competitiveness?

What impression have we given to Chinese Premier Wen Jiaboa in his short visit to the country?

That we have a government crazed with sex scandals than with enhancing multi-racial national unity or Malaysia’s international competiveness?

The largest English-language circulation newspaper in the country, the MCA-owned Star, put the Carcosa sex scandal on its front page – headlined: “Part 2 out – Another video clip on YouTube, Anwar’s family says it’s not him” while Wen’s historic visit to University of Malaya is relegated to Page 2!

The official visit of the leader of the most important nation in the world also fought a losing battle with “Sex video Part 2 on YouTube” even for front-page mention, whether its News Straits Times, Berita Harian or even the “1Melayu” Utusan Malaysia.

What a national shame and disgrace!

Wen Jiaboa would have been completely horrified if during his short visit to Malaysia, he had sighted the 8pm TV3 Prime News last night, which caused me to post five tweets in 30 minutes after I had been informed by incensed parents who were shocked and surprised by the “transformation” of TV3 into a porn channel: viz:

  1. Horrible Disgusting Complaints from those who watched 8pm TV3 Prime News which showed latest snippet of so-called Anwar Carcosa sex video.

  2. Ord decent Msians feel violated in their very homes w such disgusting TV fare – turning TV3 into pornographic channel. No child safe at home.

  3. TV3 boss/all responsible 4terrible bad taste violating homes children w such disgusting snippets shd be sacked or Info Minister Rais shd go

  4. All parents lodge police rpts agnst TV3. Lets have nation-wide campaign 2protect homes/children from such disgusting TV fare/gutter politics

  5. Let every BN Minister Dy Min MP SA declare stand – agree w TV3?s disgusting porno? PM Najib – r u going 2draw a line on whats decent or not?

Clearly the condemnation and strictures of the earlier TV3 show of the first snippet of the Carcosa sex video, which the President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Malaysia and head of the Melaka-Johore Catholic diocese, Dr Paul Tan Chee Ing had denounced as “an inexcusable outrage”, had completely fallen on deaf ears.

Paul Tan had warned: “No person of conscience can fail to deplore this permissiveness, this inaction in the face of a puerile voyeurism that has now reached a nadir.”

Would Najib undo this great national shame and disgrace by convening a round-table conference of political parties, NGOs and NGIs to draw up a clear guideline to stop the abuse of media and broadcasting channels to, in the words of Art Harun on my tweet, “defame others and to uphold morality and good values” and to take the first tentative step to end gutter politics and restore decency to public life?

Would the Prime Minister table the latest TV3 Prime News sacrilege of public morals and decency as priority agenda in the next Cabinet meeting to ensure that there is no such despicable recurrence?

Would the Information Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Rais Yatim and all those responsible in TV3 be hauled up for such grave public indecency and immorality?

The Police have denied that it is responsible for the surfacing of the second snippet of the Carcosa sex video. This was exactly what the police claimed when the first snippet of the sex video surfaced during the Sarawak state general election campaign. Will there be a third, fourth, fifth and even sixth snippets surfacing on YouTube and TV3 in the coming days?

The infamous trio of Datuk T – former Malacca Chief Minister, Tan Sri Rahim Noor, Datuk Shazryl EskayAbdullah and Datuk Shuib Lazim have claimed many a time that they are in possession of the only original copy of the Carcosa sex video and that this sole original copy had been surrendered to the police.

How then could two snippets of the Carcosa sex video surface on YouTube and the Umno blogs in a matter of three weeks?

Have the Carcosa sex video leaked from police custody and possession or is this proof of higher powers involved in the manipulation of the Carcosa sex video to character-assassinate Anwar Ibrahim?

As the possibility of the Carcosa video tape leaking from police possession and custody to surface in two snippets on YouTube cannot be ruled out, the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar should direct that an official police report be lodged and a completely separate investigation team commissioned to investigate the matter. Police credibility, integrity, professionalism and reputation are at stake!

Has the second snippet succeeded in convincing Malaysians that it is Anwar in the Carcosa sex video?

I agree with the following reaction posted on my blog to the second snippet of the Carcosa sex video :

When that man bend down and wear his pants..freeze the picture.. and you can clearly see…..it is not Anwar.
I am sure anyone can see it is not Anwar.
Are Najib and IGP blind?
Anyway…it is good this second part released…to completely prove Anwar is telling the truth all along.
What kind of creatures are these worms…..keep using sex to bring down Anwar?

Wen should be reading the local newspaper and watching the video on TV!!
He certainly has a good impression of Najib’s admin.

It is more than convincing that UMNO is behind this video right from the very start. Without green light from UMNO, the police, TV and the newspapers will not be dancing to the tune as they are doing.
See how the police play politics like imbeciles.
It is UMNO which will end up with mud on its face.

The only difference between China and USA is that the middle-class has got a chance to express their feeling of frustration in life because they could not fine better things to do. Even the magnitude of hungry people in China, only those well-fed would have time for such interaction. The CCP is not saint but they arte obliged tyo maintain “peace” at ANY COST! Given the choice, I would prefer the safer option. Freedom is onlt available to those who have the luxury to propogate it; just ask the man working under the sun in the field about it! Certainly they are perfect but looking at where they are today, the leaders over there have created some historic stride for their people. We should certainly leave them to their device! They may not breath freedom as many of us think we have, but they certainly wont compete to go to Zimbabwe!!

Ibrahim bin perkasa is just a bully. A typical Tuan Rempit McBully. Whilst here, he plays bad boy bully with the rest of us esp chinese and indians. But when faced with a real big boy he kiu chui (shrink). Even the trademark raised arteries around his neck went missing – kiu chui, no doubt.

Clowns all hail pendatang. Umno hails pendatang. Jib hails pendatang. Mohedeen hails pendatang. Ibrahim bin perkasa too scared even to squeek a sound of protest.

McBullys are afraid of us malaysian chinese. But watch it McBullys. PRC chinese are a different breed of people altogether. They are a million times more aggresive than malaysian chinese. And they hv loads and loads of money to throw. So be prepared to be swamped and taken over by them. Malaysian market is too small for them to play in. We will be swallowed in no time.

The welcoming banner in Chinese which was directly translated from Malay by google/computer must have given to Premier Wen the impression that there is not a single officer in the PM’s department who knows Chinese. Wen gets away the impression that either there was no Chinese government officer in the PM’s department, and if they were, they had no say even in the correct use of the Chinese language.

The display of the Chinese message originated directly from a computer translation shows that the officer concerned has no knowledge at all regarding the limitation of using computer to do direct translation. That same officer must have used translation into English directly from his written Malay, from the same service, when he wrote in English. That shows that his standard of English is awful or else he would have realized that there were limitations in translation by computer.

UMNO and gang fear only Anwar and they think that so long as they can get rid of Anwar they can continue their way of life till eternity. Now the whole government machinery is used to remove Anwar. If Anwar ever gets the majority support in parliament we shall see copse lying in the vicinity of the twin tower. The verdict is death during the 7-second fall to the ground at 154 MPH. The cause is to avoid MACC investigation.

    What’s Chinese Premier’s impression?

A country divided by race and united by sex obssession?

A group of ruling elites wanting to stay in power (as a group) as long as possible and (2) between themselves (as individuals) usher the one on top to give way to those below who want to ascend?

The fact that the top has conme out with 1 Malaysia, then its opposite 1 Melayu &1 Bumi has to be championed to appeal to primodial racial sentiments and galvanise support as an alternative to those allied to “1 Malaysia”.

The 1 Malaysia Group is forced to go defensive and legitimise their being at helm/top (as against contenders) by showing they could defeat/neutralise and break the back bone of the Opposition Coalition.

Gutter Politics (to bring down opponent by sex scandal) is considered OK (a necessary evil) since Sodomy II/Carcosa video are bullets aimed at the heart Opposition amour.

Hence obsession with sex. Conditions are favourable for such obsession here. Nature of obsession: many think about sex, do it, deny doing it and revel in pointing the accusing finger at others allegedly doing it – and getting caught.

  26. #27 by Jeffrey on Thursday, 28 April 2011 - 7:51 pm

As many in the audience (who vote) are not very independent in thought, that’s where media plays a pivotal part – so the spin professionals, PR consultants will advise.

They know political and social life is shaped more and more by media spectacle. Social and political conflicts are increasingly being played out on the screens of media culture, which display spectacles to promote the one in power and denigate the one opposed to the one in power. Besides media spectacle culture is converging with new domains of cyberspace and is influential.

So the advice must have been sent forth, leverage on the power of the media spectacle, which is why sodomy II reports and now the snippets of Carcosa sex video were shown on national TV. Political history of the country is at the cross road – turn left BN rules for decades to come, turn right, may be booted.

As much is at stake Gutter Politics is defended as necessary even if it tarnishes national image. The Question is only who has power to accuse, deny, enforce the law or waive it against the trangressor of these hypocritical ultra conservative norms.

  27. #28 by Jeffrey on Thursday, 28 April 2011 - 8:00 pm

Hopefully Chinese Premier Wen Jiaboa understands this.

China is no stranger to sex scandals whether by politicians or celebrities.

A small part of the reason may be due to China’s one-child policy, implemented in 1979, which helped usher in the new culture of openness. Besides population control, it ushered in a paradigm shift in many Chinese views of sex – that it is also about recreation and not just procreation!

[A 2007 poll by Renmin University of China found that more than half of the Chinese surveyed in 10 provinces said that premarital sex is okay. Only 12.8 percent said that it was immoral. Among male entrepreneurs, 68 percent said they have multiple sex partners. Time Magazine’s 2006 article, titled “Sex Please, We’re Young and Chinese,” noted that, “Some 70 percent of Beijing residents say they have had sexual relations before marriage, compared with just 15.5 percent in 1989].

Wen Jiaboa knows his people are getting more liberal. What is he to say about so many China Dolls being exported all over the world – even here????

  28. #29 by Jeffrey on Thursday, 28 April 2011 - 8:00 pm

Malaysia takes opposite route, getting more conservative and hypocritical. It is in the sense that sex libidoes are no less today – amongst including politicians on both sides of political divide – than (say) thousands of years ago. Accusation after accusation of sexual impropriety is hurled.

The hypocrisy here is to deny that there is an elephant in the room.

Hence the importance for those in preservation of the present political order to implicate the leader ofOpposition to sex scandal, whether heterosexual or homosexual.

Wen Jiaboa will however take a measure of consolation that the party representing Chinese constitutency in Malaysia (MCA) has however kept somewhat in tandem with the growing openess in China. (Before, one of its leaders survived attack for associating with a China Doll from Wen’s country. Today the party is helmed by a president who was voted in by majority even after his sex scandal admitted!)

  29. #30 by Jeffrey on Thursday, 28 April 2011 - 8:02 pm

Wen Jiaboa will note the jarring inconsistency : as we, with our gleaming Petronas Twin Tower, learn like developed societies on how to leverage on multimedia spectacle and harbour pretensipns to be a networked infotainment society (with the proposal of 1 Malaysia E mail), at the same time some of us go back in opposite direction to seek political legitmacy based on race, undermining the very concept of competitiveness vital to overcome today’s challenges, and also adopt the “holier than thou” attitude on matters of sex in the arena of political contestation, using sex scandal /gutter politics as arbiter of who “morally” deserves to rule the country.

Perkasa wonder why the Chinese will do anything to get ahead economically and intend to defeat Ketuanan Melayu. Look at the way they are fawning over Wen? All Malaysia see this behaviour and what to us its simple: With superior economic power, the likes of Perkasa will fawn over us instead of trying to step over us…

Malaysia govt cannot even write a simple welcome poster (in Chinese) for Wen Jia Bao, Malaysia govt slapped all 6 million Malaysian Chinese?

If China’s businessmen don’t invest in Malaysia, don’t blame them, they would think Malaysians knowledge of Chinese language is too, very low, probably among the worst in ASEAN.

  32. #33 by on cheng on Thursday, 28 April 2011 - 8:28 pm

If we are not competitive because of this race thing & financial profligacy/culture of partronage & our economy goes the way of Zimbabwe, then whether we are conservative or not conservative in sexual norms, we will be exporting Malaysian dolls (maids & mates) to China and elsewhere that prosper instead!
