A cyber attack beginning at 11am today shut down Malaysiakiniservers simultaneously, making the website inaccessible to readers.
The Malaysiakini technical team has determined it to be a denial-of-service attack, where an attacker uses computers in different parts of the world to swarm Malaysiakini servers to the point that they are unable to cope with the massive traffic.
Both our servers, which are hosted at two data centres – TM Brickfields and Jaring – have been affected by the attack.
Malaysiakini has posted all of today’s reports in Facebook. Readers can access Malaysiakini in full via Facebook Notes.
We will soon be making our reports, especially those on the Sarawak election, available on WordPress, Blogspot and other publishing platforms.
Malaysiakini is also working to bring up a new set of servers.
We apologise for the technical problem and we will keep readers informed of developments via Facebook and Twitter.

Whoever using the Android or iPhone, can still access Malaysiakini via the “Mobilekini” app.
Actually its more worthwhile paying USD1.99 for all the content, as compared to paying full for the actual site login.

Just like in the middle east. When under threat, silence all web expressions of opponents. It is clearly about self-preservation. Umno does not think that malaysia is anything like egypt, libya etc. But the more they shut down dissenting voices the more they appear like them.

They even tried to shut down the entire internet connection in Egypt but what was the eventual outcome? Nothing can stop the march of a people awoken to realised that they have been robbed, raped and raided all these years. BN, prepare to die. Preventing access to Malaysiakini will only back fire because hundreds of mirror sites will come out and there are thousands of alternative sites to bring untampered news to the people. May as well use the money you wasted on the hackers to bribe the still unenlightened voters in the rural areas and long houses. Your only hope is to keep the people stupid so that they will continue to allow you to rape the country.
