While Dr Bakri believes that this book will be widely read in the West, it is probably more important that it be widely read in the countries which make up the membership of the OIC.

In the Malaysian context, let's hope it is not banned bythe Home Ministry. It will be a disservice to Malaysians, and Muslims in particular. Seperation of state and religion is not a bad thing !

sorry to bring up a different subject, but the plight of fellow Malaysians is no less important a topic. In Johor, a squatter colony of 2,400 was demolished. Where are the people going to live? What about those with children? with babies? with old folks? with sick family members? People are being thrown onto the streets.

the authorities lend advantage to corporations, without giving equal considerations to disadvantage families.

food, clothing and shelter; these are basic needs, aren't they.

The pathetic thing is this, even if Islamic state has its own myth, why are we incapable of dealing WITH OUR OWN MYTH? Despite complaining about colonisation of our minds what seems forever BUT in reality we have done little against the real colonisation of our minds including those of Islam...

There exist just too many myths with respect to the Malaysian context, one of which is myth of the Islamic state, as explained in the above writing.

Kudos to our ever forthcoming Bakri Musa, for bringing up pertinent issues and sharing it with fellow Malaysians. Hopefully, it helps to clear where clearing is much needed. But, sadly, many Malaysians are either too ingrained in their ways, or refused to learn and accept new messages or knowledge for reasons known only to themselves which inadvertently or conveniently perpetuate their advantageous position in society, or just do not have the capacity to learn substantively and justifying the status quo to hide that incapacity and/or incapability.

If leaders of a country or organization are not of those who are learned, incorruptible, impartial, accountable, integrity-bound, morally infallible, racially fair and just, religiously just and righteous, unwavering in jurisprudence, subscribe to separation powers judiciously, open to new learning and knowledge, then that nation cannot hope too much to be a nation of standing. At best, it can only achieve mediocrity.

However, there could be outstanding individuals in the nation who are great in their own ways. But those individuals and their talents are not often utilized as they do not always resonate with the inclination of the leaders, and subject to suppression and repression.

It takes courage and sincerity to admit one's faults and weaknesses. It is the lack of these values which leaves one lagging behind in whatever it takes to move forward. Indeed, such a scenario is all too common in this nation of ours. Hopefully, leaders of required caliber would surface in the near future to right what's ailing the country so that the people would be afforded the right atmosphere to achieve greater heights and accomplishments.

We need more Bakri Musa's.

'Feldman notes further that with Shari’a the scholars provided the crucial and fundamental checks and balances on the powers of the rulers. This is exactly what is glaringly absent in many Muslim countries today.'

This shows how religion can be such a dangerous tool if left at the mercy of self serving politicians. Bakri, I hope no one will politicise your article or you could be the next Salman Rushdie of Malaysia. Anyway thanks for sharing this with us AND for the readers please read carefully and understand before throwing any accusations.
