Abdullah should direct the 54 BN MPs to cut short their “blur blur” agriculture study tour of Taiwan

Malaysia’s image and international standing are trampled upon and “rubbished” by the 54 Barisan Nasional MPs currently on a “blur blur” agriculture study tour of Taiwan as they are been tracked by the Taiwan print and electronic media as if they are bizarre or exotic creatures from a strange land if not from another planet.

Instead of conducting themselves as proud elected representatives of a nation held in high esteem in international circles, the 54 BN MPs are caught in a hide-and-seek with journalists as if they are fugitives from justice or agents of rogue nations as they are unable to give a honest and honourable explanation of the real purpose and reason for their sudden trip to Taiwan.

A Guang Ming Daily columnist has rightly coined the phrase “mong cha-cha” or “blur blur” tour to describe BN MPs junket to Taiwan, for the BN MPs were in a “blur” when summoned by SMS to submit their passports for the “trip to nowhere” as the country destination was not known and undecided, “blur” when they boarded the flight and continue to be “blur” when they landed in Taiwan.

The 54 BN MPs know that they have become a laughing stock in Taiwan and a standing joke wherever they go in the island republic. As a result, they cannot hold their heads high when appearing in public in Taiwan.

As MPs who should be Malaysian nationalists and patriots first and last, shouldn’t they do what is right – cut short their “blur blur” Taiwan trip so as not to prolong Malaysia’s shame and disgrace in Taiwan every day they are in Taiwan?

They should abandon the “blur, blur” agricultural study tour of Taiwan if they are not to be known as “blur blur” MPs not only for the rest of their elected term but the remainder of their lives.

In fact, the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi should issue an immediate directive to recall the 54 BN MPs to cut short their “blur blur” agriculture study tour of Taiwan and return immediately to demonstrate that the BN has nothing to fear about “916” since BN leaders have repeatedly claimed that the BN MPs’ junket to Taiwan was not meant to derail Anwar Ibrahim’s “916” plan.

Apart from sparing the nation from continuing infamy in Taiwan and international shame as well as BN’s “fatal obsession”: with 916, there are many other reasons why the BN MPs’ “blur blur” agricultural tour of Taiwan should be truncated, such as the fasting month for Muslims, the Moon-cake festival for Malaysian Chinese and most important of all, September 16 as Malaysia Day not only for Sabahans and Sarawakians but for all Malaysians as well!

Malaysian politicians fly into Taiwan amid strife

NY TIMES NEWS SERVICE, KUALA LUMPUR
    Wednesday, Sep 10, 2008, Page 4
The Malaysian ruling party flew more than a third of government lawmakers to Taiwan on Monday in a hastily arranged trip, ostensibly to study farming techniques.
But the trip was widely interpreted as a government effort to try to stop lawmakers from shifting their support to Anwar Ibrahim.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) yesterday said the Malaysian lawmakers will not conduct any official business or meet any high ranking Taiwanese officials on their trip.

“MOFA welcomes them to Taiwan and will be happy to offer any assistance that the lawmakers might need,” said MOFA spokesman Henry Chen (???).

The UMNO Gov should let the MPs come back and let them defect if they want to. When this happens, Parlimen should be dissolved and snap election called.

This should end the unstable political atmosphere and efforts to develope the country can be carried out. Msia needs a new agenda. If the voters want UMNO, so be it. The majority wins and the non Malays will just have to wait to be recognised as legitimate citizens of Msia.

I find the calls of an apology sickening. Why ask a moron to apologise? Let him be and let the police handle the case.

Why bother if UMNO suspends him for 3 years? We are not the MT of UMNO. We can’t dictate. We just accept. If one is not satisfied, then you vote otherwise.

The graph has been on the downturn. TDM wants to rejoin UMNO. Where is Msia heading to? Do we need to depend on UMNO? We have a choice. Let’s be quick about it.

    1. This trip is a world record of sorts. 1/4 of a country’s parliamentarian disappearing to another country. Malaysia Boleh!

    Sorry off topic

Comments on Social Contract 3 by TDM appearing in CheDet.com 10/Sept 2008

///1. I am sorry to have to revert to the social contract issue again because of some disturbing development.

    2. Young Malays, including professionals are said to have espoused liberalism and meritocracy. They question the need for affirmative action and the New Economic Policy. They believe that the Malays should compete with the other races. If they fail then they do not deserve the dominant role in the politics of Malaysia. They should accept non-Malay leadership of the country.///–TDM

I am proud of the Malays who think that life is individual responsibility and the agenda in life should be decided by the people themselves. The sense of pride and shame should relate to oneself. As society progress, it should be the collective efforts of people, government and the society in general to provide assistance to the needy without regard to their colour, creed or religion. That should prevent opportunities use the mechanism of divide and rule to hijack the role of government for serving their private purposes.

///3. This view of the young Malays sounds refreshing. Unfortunately these liberal Malays are in a minority. The majority of the Malay professionals and young Malays have hardened their stand on the position of their race since the disaster of 2008. They are incensed especially by the arrogance of the Bar Council. They now question the social contract and reject the need to adhere to it. This sounds almost like the Chinese stand. But the difference is startling and disturbing.///–TDM

TDM did not conduct a survey and can hardly be believed to know whether the liberals were in the majority or in the minority.. It is not known why young Malay professionals should be incensed by the Bar Council’s actions which wanted to revive the moral and legal authority of the role of the judiciary. The action of the Bar Council to organize discussion of conflicts of laws regarding religions served the need of the legal professionals. If the Malay professionals should take the action of the Bar Council as an excuse to question social contract and reject the need to adhere to it, then they are mixing irrelevant issues. That if true shows only that the professionals might be trained, but not educated. It is not true that the Chinese reject the social contract or refuse to adhere to it. To the Chinese, the social contract is represented in the original constitution of Malaya, including Article 153 which had the provision for a review. The Chinese reject the claim by UMNO that the amended constitution could be considered the original contract.

///4. They disagree with the Tunku giving the one million citizenship without regard for the conditions for getting citizenship.

    5. They say before this the Malays made up the majority of the citizens. They could rule the country by themselves. But the Tunku reduced this Malay majority until they have to depend on non-Malay support. To them the humiliation they are facing are entirely due to the Tunku.

    6. This act by the Tunku is part of the social contract. They reject it and they demand that the Tunku’s action should be considered to be against the constitution and should be rejected. They demand that the citizenship given by the Tunku should be withdrawn or nullified.///–TDM

TDM has not conducted a survey to ask for the opinion of the Malays how they feel on the above observations. They could not be the considered opinion of Malay professionals other than TDM himself. TDM has simply written up the above three paragraphs to claim that it was how the Malays think. It is TDM who holds those views, and TDM claims that they are the views of the Malays. His Malay readers agree to whatever he says, and soon it becomes public opinion. That is how TDM mould the opinion of Malays. When the gets a few thousands comments agreeing to whatever he writes, then he is claiming that the country is at the brink of destruction, and he has to replace PM AAB to save it. TDM is dangerous.

///7. They also question the other concessions given the non-Malay communities, especially the schools and the use of other languages.///—TDM

There are 60,000 Malays in Chinese schools, and they are happy to be given the opportunity to learn another widely used language, the Chinese, in the world. The defeated UMNO candidate in the recent Permatang Paul by-election claimed that it was his father’s greatest gift to him to be educated in Chinese school. The education issue had been settled after 51 years with Najib claiming that he cares for all communities citing education policy as his proof, TDM consider it proper to raise the settled issue to provoke Malays. TDM is willing to let the country burn so that he stands a chance to be UMNO decision maker again! Only the teaching of science and mathematics in English remains controversial with almost all teachers and parents disagreed with it. But TDM is happy watching the people suffer, rejoicing at his power of destruction to the country.

///8. In short they seem to reject the social contract altogether and to go back to the situation before the leaders of the communities made their bargain.

    9. Questioned as to what would happen if the British refused to give independence, they suggested that the Malays resort to armed struggle and co-operation with a neighbouring country. They suggested that we should have formed Melayu Raya together with this neighbouring country.///–TDM

TDM has wild imagination and he attributes it to the ideas of Malay professionals. He further claims that they form the majority. If after spending a fortune of the country resources at educating them, the products should hold those views, TDM as the PM for 22 years should hang his head in shame. Certainly these are not the views of Malay professionals. Otherwise, the Malays would now want to be part of Indonesia without having to fight the British. Who then would decide the use of billions of oil money? TDM thinks that the Malays are fools, and so NEP should continue. He still hopes to see that Malays are stupid.

///10. I must admit the retrogression of their viewpoint but this is becoming more current as the debate on the social contract goes on. They are particularly incensed by the Bar Council which seems to them to be questioning Malay rights according to the agreement in the social contract.

    11. So far we hear only the non-Malays rejecting the social contract. This is the first time I hear of Malays rejecting the social contract. I think the Government should handle this problem carefully. Otherwise it may become widespread and effect the fragile harmony between the different races.///–TDM

    Crocodile tears from TDM.

///12. I did not like putting this on my blog. But I have no access to the Government. In any case I doubt the Government would take this twist on the Social Contract seriously. Dato Seri Abdullah would deny that anything is happening.///—TDM

I too cannot submit these as comments to CheDet.com. I did receive an email reply telling me to click on the link to comment. It never worked.

///13. Malaysia had remained stable for half a century because sensitive issues were not publicly discussed. The Government now appears to practice selective freedom of speech. As long as you don’t attack the Government especially Dato Seri Abdullah you may say what you like whether racist or seditious. But if you attack the Government or Dato Seri Abdullah every effort would be made to silence you or to keep you out of the news.///—TDM

For 22 years TDM could not mould the people to desensitize any issue between races, he has failed miserable as a PM. It is clear now that it was never his intention to barging the nation up on the social and economic ladder. He wanted the country to be stagnant so that he could be the emperor all the time, including the opportunity to pull string behind his son’s throne!

///14. The selective freedom is stirring up racist feelings everywhere. Hence the remarks made by the State Assemblywoman from Perak and Dato Ahmad Ismail in Penang. And now we see the support given to Ahmad and his condemnation of MCA and Gerakan leaders by all the 13 UMNO divisions in Penang.///–TDM

The antics had stayed this long with Ahmad Ismail refusing to apologize and end it earlier because TDM provided support to him in CheDet.com

///15. I believe racist sentiments among Malays and non-Malays are rising. If it flares up the stability of this country may be affected permanently. We may see political wrangling of the kind we see in several other countries. In the process the economy of this country would be destroyed.

    16. This slide must be stopped. No one should disregard the obligation to uphold the social contract.

    17. That understanding between the leaders of the three races had served us well. So has the ban on questioning certain provisions in the Constitution.///–TDM

People who read only these three paragraph would have thought that he is a statesman. Is he?

///18. I had tried during my time to balance the treatment of the different races. I had been labeled a racist before. But towards the end of my tenure the Chinese in particular supported me. But throughout I never forgot my obligations to the Malays.///—TDM

It is race politics that require balancing all the time where might is right. If TDM has allowed justice and fairness to prevail, all issues will be decided as right or wrong, and not Syed or Wong. But to retain NEP, race politics has to be preserved. NEP is required so that cronyism will stay.

///19. Dato Seri Abdullah has tried to placate everyone. He has given one billion Ringgit here, one billion Ringgit thereinggit there; he has given unknown sums of money to Tun Salleh Abbas and the other judges who had been dismissed in order to placate the Bar Council, he has promised billions of Ringgit for numerous corridors, billions for transport, lower oil prices etc etc. But no one believes him because the promises and fund allocations have not materialised. The fact is that nobody believes him or trusts him. No one has been placated.

    20. The racialist trend will continue. I frankly don’t think Dato Seri Abdullah can handle it.

    21. What is the solution? Right thinking people must make their rejection of Dato Seri Abdullah’s leadership heard. If we don’t then whatever racial harmony that exist would be eroded and will destroy this beloved country.///—TDM

He might have another paragraph, to claim that only TDM is the saviour of the race and religion, and may be the country so that non-Malays can pay taxes. He takes it as self explanatory and thus has not included it.

The BBC is taking all the 54 MP to learn ‘A-Greed-Culture’ from previous Taiwan President Chen on how to do money laudering with their country’s reserve all these years. Then they come back to report to AAB and brief him on how.

The BBC, Bung Mukhtar said after LONG preparation since early this year to CHINA and then because of VISA problem, they change to Taiwan?? LONG PREPARATION MY ASS for 5 months?? my father had his visa in just a week.. THEY JUST SCARE OF MPs CROSSING OVER.. face the fact BN!!

AAB, you are weak !! you even scare of Ahmad Ismail.. he should be investigated under ISA, not just suspended for 3 yrs. anyhow, he’ll be back for NEXT GENERAL ELECTION !!! BAN FOR 2 TERMS !!

we don’t care of the instabilize Malaysia after PR, we just want to know the truth of BN’s monopoly after 51 yrs administration. Corruption, unfair justice, divided racial policies, and abuse of power among all the BN MPs.. We should learn from Taiwan, they have 2 strong ruling party, who wins the election rules. Not by threatening words. I would like to see mature Malaysia. I’m not supporting PR, I voted for BN. I just feel that BN is so weak and fragile now with its own internal issues. so sad..

What a joke! Why sent all 54 just to do the study on agriculture alone? How about other fields? Why they choose Taiwan alone?

I would predict that our PM may soon change his mind to inform the public that those ‘blur blur sotong’ MPs also went for the studies on other fields…let us wait and see what so special about these studies! What difference could they made after their studies?

Perhaps the BN Government should not waste our tax payers’ money and we could save some taxes for our own trip to overseas instead. Why should we pay for all these nonsense? What the hell!!!

Do’s and don’t’s For BN MPs On Study Tour In Taiwan
    =========================================

1.. Malaysia do not have diplomatic relation with Taiwan. We only have trade and cultural link with Taiwan. YBs on this trip are NOT on official business. The one China Policy do not allow Malaysian official visit to Taiwan. China will be very unhappy if you say you are on official visit.

    2. Do not call Taiwan China. Do not call the people Chinese. You will make our China friends very angry.

    3. Do not break any Taiwanese laws. Remember, you are a private citizen in Taiwan It can be hard to take you out of the jail since we do not have diplomatic representation in Taiwan.

    4. Taipeh had switched of the red light district. Do not go looking for it. MCA do not mean mana cari ayam.

    5. Do not use the word “pendatang”. Most of the Taiwanese migrated from China. They may get upset with you. See rule 3

    6. No! Sarawak MPs cannot bring their chain saws. Taiwan has very strong forest conservation. Sarawak MPs are not encouraged to cut the trees with their chain saws. See rule 3.

    7. You cannot go in a frenzy and tear photos of Taiwanese leaders. See rule 3.

The BNBBC claims that the trip was planned two months ago as a denial that they were trying to avoid 916 yet admit that they decided on Taiwan as the destination only two days ago. Who in their right minds would decide on the trip first and then only figure out at the last minute their destination? And for such a big group of people? Only fools and liars would do such things. Surely if you had decided on the trip and the purpose, you must determine the destination in order to plan the itinerary to maximise and justify the huge expenses that is going to be incurred.

learn an agriculture? And why need until 54 MPs,
not 10 of them, 20 of them? Its useless and

and when they come back they can brief or explain
to the Malaysians / other MPs? EERRRGGHHH!!!!

We also have a Lembah Bio-tech,

Regret send them to Taiwan, where there is so much press freedom, Taiwan media can come out with many reports which may not be good to the sender.
Perhaps should have send them to Zimbabwe, and ask Mugabe to ban Anwar from entering Zimbabwe or cut off all contacts from PR anyway, phone, email, fax in Zim hardly works. Moreover, they can learn from Mugabe on how to deal with political opposition parties.

Actually, I feel sorry for the likes of Ahmad Ismail. They lost everything in the last GE and are now desperately clutching at straws.

    YB Lim,

it is waste of money, for example, you can read it from newspaper. a lot of farmers in M’sia don’t have land to grow vegetable. if they really want to help. pls make sure there is enough lands for those hardworking farmers. they are more experiences and skillful. does not need to go to TAIWAN to study at all….

I can almost hear these BN MP whispering to one another. ” What are we doing here in Taiwan ? ” ” Learn about agriculture ” ” Why doesn’t the agriculture minister come too ? ” May be the mornings are used to do their agricultural field trips and then in the afternoon, all of them will be gathered in one room discussing about Malaysian politics. Datuk Ahmad Ismail should make this trip so that he gets to know Chineses better. It is a blessing in disguise because he shows his true colours and it means that he cannot make anymore advancement in his political career. When he said something about the Yahudi people, he did not realize he was actually referring to himself and people like him. Malay has this saying. You point your finger at someone. But four fingers are pointing back to you yourself. Datuk Ahmad Ismail judges the other races with his pointed finger. His four other fingers point back and judge him without him realizing it.

This is what we mean all along. Certain parties can say anything to the other 2 parties, but the other 2 parties cannot say anything to this one party because EVERYTHING is considered “sensitive issue”

Of course there is double standard in our country. For example – in my children’s school, the WHOLE week of Hari Raya is declared a holiday. They have to attend 3 saturday classes to make up for the 3 extra holidays. Notification was given 2 months in advance, but I think it was already planned last year. But for Chinese New Year, the children were not even allowed to leave early on New Year’s eve to allow them to make the balik kampung journey. I suppose they think that we pendatang need to travel a loooooong way home so might as well not bother giving an off day. So this year, as in every year, a certain race will enjoy ONE LONG WEEK of holiday because it is their right to enjoy double standards. We teach our children right from day one in school that we MUST put up with double standards because we are pendatang.

Anwar can’t buy over BN MPs, says Dr Mahathir:

“I still doubt he can get the MPs to switch to his side. He thinks he can buy them but other leaders have got a lot more money. It is not possible for him to buy the leaders.”

to my knowledge, i never see a country did like this -sending bunch of MPs to “learn” agri. I think there will be none example as the rightful thought will not do this. Why?

    a. wrong candidate. Bunch of irrevelent people and waste of money.

    b. no clear objective & justification. So far we know they go to learn agri, most probably try various of fruit and sight seeing the farm, like what we normal did for holiday trip.

    c. Taiwan’s authorities is not involved. This should be an offical trip which corroborte with Taiwan goverment – effective arangement and engaged effective study and communication.

when we see not relevant people without a proper agenda and justification for the hasty trip in the name of Malaysia goverment without acknowledge and involvement of Taiwan’s authority, what kind of study trip is this?

    Malaysia menang boleh.

I hear they have a budget of RM 5 million (USD 1.5 million) to contribute to the Taiwanese economy.

    What happened to cuti-cuti Malaysia?

Will the income tax people come in to investigate the source of the money?

Will they all write a report each about what they have learnt when they return?

Now not only Malaysians know our MPs are ‘bodoh’ who can be led by nose rings; the Taiwanese now knows. It wouldn’t take a day for the rest of the world to know win our internet-driven world.

So we have BN to thank for making malaysia look so stupid after 51 years of independence.

Malaysians are waiting to view their Taiwan documentary video. This video will surely benefit our farmers and boost our agricultural sector. Just keep my fingers close and wait for their home coming.

///As MPs who should be Malaysian nationalists and patriots first and last, shouldn’t they do what is right – cut short their “blur blur” Taiwan trip///

One can say Back benchers organisers and the trip itself to Taiwan are “moong cha-cha” or “blur blur” but the 54 BN MPs – counting amongst whom are some defectors as conceded by Anwar/PKR officials – should not be blamed….

The ‘would be’ defectors were likely advised by Anwar not to blow their cover before September 16 : so they have to play along and go to Taiwan.

PR should be thankful the MPs are taken on conducted tour of Shangri-La Leisure with nice temperature of 25° Celsius, landscaping, tea stands, streetlights, pebble walkways, bird nests and flower beds to carry out their pretext of agricultural study.

It would have been worse – sweating out in some dank basement cell lit by a single bulb interrogated by Special Branch officers regarding who would defect! :)

  47. #47 by Jeffrey on Thursday, 11 September 2008 - 7:36 am

Acording to Malaysiakini report Anwar Ibrahim still insisted that his self-imposed Sept 16 deadline to form the new federal government is “very much” on track, notwithstanding “would-be” defectors are amongst BN MPs in Taiwan. He also said there will be a “surprise” on Tuesday, but did not elaborate. What is he going to do?

PKR deputy president Dr Syed Husin Ali has confirmed the ‘Kataks’ have already signed support documents in black and white (likely with PKR only) for the defection. If they make out the numbers for a PR majority, is Anwar “surprise” going to take the form of seeking an audience with the King?

“I believe the king is neutral in regards to political affiliations. His Majesty might want to meet the MPs in question personally to ascertain their support” Dr Syed Husin Ali added.

    see – http://politics101malaysia.blogsome.com/2008/09/08/some-frogs-taiwan-bound/

I guess the “kataks” have also signed documents not to defect BN at the time when they were put up as BN candidates to contest 12th General Election on 8th March which conflict with their subsequent ones given to PKR just like SD1 conflicting with SD2 in P Bala’s case. In such a conflict the King might want to verify which support document – the earlier or subsequent – would prevail before His Majesty makes the determination.

However don’t be too surprised that if our BN Back bencher club chairman and Bintulu MP, Datuk Tiong King Sing could successfully ‘brainwash’ the ‘kataks’ in Taiwan to reverse their position again, these ‘defectors’ would return to Malaysia on 17th with yet another 3rd set of documentation repudiating the support documents (for defection) given to Anwar/PKR in derailment of Sept 16 plans. Kataks will be kataks! :)

These MPs should have refused to go in the first place.

Then cat and mice chasing can start. If Anwar flies to Taiwan, the mice will be send back right away by BN. So Anwar should buy the ticket now!
