I was lucky to be conferred “datuk” four times! Of course not by DYMM or sultan but by virtue of my children parenting sons and daughters. I think this kind of “datukship” is more secured than those conferred by any ruler in this country. Remember, datukship conferred by rulers can be withdrawn, just like what happend to Lee Kim Sai but mine is a perpetual one and I did not pay a single sen for it!!!!!

Eunuchs in China were given the title “gong gong” (grandfather in English, Datok in BM) and Admiral Cheng Ho, the first Chinese to land in Malacca those days was a eunuch. Perhaps our title “Dato’” came from there after the locals heard what Admiral Cheng Ho’s subordinates call him, thinking that this must be a great title. They therefore adopted the word “Dato” to mean someone in power without realizing that it is just a title given to a castrated man!

It seems the Tunship is given to those who have messed up the country real bad. It is a way of knowing who are the culprits when they retire or when they’ve stolen enough from the country. So perhaps, Samy has not done enough damage yet to be conferred the title? Maybe he’s still on level 3, hasn’t got on to ‘Level 4′?

Tuns have immunity correct correct correct TDM says sensitive statements but no action taken Tun lim keng yak will now spit when he talks even further. semi value should have his DATUKSHIP stipped off NOT GIVEN THE tun.

I am all for Semi Velu getting a tun only if his name is changed to Tun Tsunami Velu. He was one of those responsible for the Hindraf5 getting locked up and the March 8 tsunami.

We have lesser and lesser “normal human beings” on the road today as one by one of them refuses to be called a normal “Mr., Mrs, or Ms” but must have a prefix or suffix to their names!!!! Are we headed towards an “abnormal” society? I believe even QE2 does not “honour” so many people each year in UK!!!

…it is time to do away with titles such as those given for long service in government and similar awards like PJK and AMN etc.

any ex-government servant here?

when they leave govt service many ‘award’ themselves with titles like “consultants”….a generic term for almost anything.

Then check out the list of welknown UMNO
“Tun”….and you will note…the bigger the crook…the higher ..the title.
I notice Mahathir blog ..by introducing himself with no titles.’
Smart bloke…….preparing himself….to be stripped off all titles…landing in jail…..sooner or later.

He should be.
He qualifies as the best of the best crooks….to get the best title. UMNO and BN Datuks should be inspired to get Tan Sri and finally…a Tun…by stealing big…inspired by Mahathir.
