No Tun Samy Vellu?

This will be the reaction of most Malaysians to the Yang di Pertuan Agong’s birthday honours list today – why Tun Dr. Lim Keng Yaik but no Tun Samy Vellu.

Is MIC leaving Barisan Nasional?

I don’t give a damn who gets the Tun or Tan Sri or Dato’. I have no respect for any of them. The only contribution they gave was towards their own pockets.

I respect the roadside hawker more for being hardworking and honest. Or the neighbour who weeded the paths and planted flowers in their place.

I respect my fellow teachers for being caring and responsible towards their pupils. I respects the doctors who reduce their charges when the patients are poor.

Basically, I respect any honest and hardworking person. But never a politician.

    Poor Samy. What went wrong?

  4. #4 by BoycottLocalPapers on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 10:11 am

Nicol Ann David deserves the title TUN more than Samy Vellu. But considering the fact that Mahathir Mamak also has the title TUN, I think better not.

Why must Tunship be conferred to someone who burdened the rakyat with toll everywhere? The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has made the right decision (if it was his decision) in not honoring someone like Samy Vellu.

Is Samy Vellu responsible for the recent Grand Saga vs Bandar Mahkota Cheras case recently? Why is the government trying to force the people of Bandar Mahkota Cheras to pay toll and on top of that take a longer journey to work? The government should be helping the rakyat instead of burdening the rakyat with toll and drastic hike in oil prices.

If UMNO was responsible for the Tunship list, then probably UMNO is angry with Samy Vellu for the political Tsunami on March 8, 2008.

If UMNO is responsible for the Tunship list, then Samy Vellu should be jealous and has the right to be jealous. Samy Vellu should ask UMNO why Lim Keng Yaik is conferred with Tunship while no Tunship is given to him?

Why Mahathir Mamak was conferred with Tunship immediately after resigning?

Why Ling Liong Sik was conferred with Tunship immediately after leaving the government?

MIC members should ask UMNO these questions, because this is yet another proof that the Indian community has been marginalized by UMNO.

UMNO members – first class citizen
MCA & Gerakan members – second class citizen
MIC members – third class citizen.

    Dear Sir,

I supposed we should move away from the ‘old story’ and focus on ideas of how to brace through the hike of fuel, get some real forward methods or idea of organized efforts for the new state governments entrusted by the voters to charge forward those areas of better ISSUES than this silly title of why samy vellu is not given Tun….

    Dear Sir,

You had MISSED many of your good years to govern and lead to develop those ‘barren’ grounds, and those powers were now shared with PKR & PAS with you as leaders to lead those states which are considered GOOD states, please may you have some your precious time to raise issues of more essential than an expired WM, and leave him alone, and let’s go down the lands to produce some good productions for food.

    May I help you??

    Best regards,

    Peter Leow

    No Tun Samy?

    What about Nut Samy?

To this nut, white is black, black is white. So Tun too is Nut, Nut too is Tun!

I concur with max2811′s sentiments except the final part..’But never a politician.’ I do respect a few politicians, and those I respect are not polluted with vainglorious titles. There are indeed some politicians who truly believe their little bit can, and do, make a difference. They are appreciated and respected by their electorate and by all fair minded citizens. That is true honor coming from the heart of the people, not some pitiful undeserved title derived from crony practices.

  8. #8 by vincent on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 10:30 am

I think without these titles LKS & son are more respected then them.

  9. #9 by Godfather on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 10:35 am

What is the worth of a Tunship? Just look at the living Tuns and the damage that they have wrought on Bolehland: Tun Mamakthir, who almost singlehandedly destroyed the judiciary and corrupted the Police, the AG’s Chambers, the ACA. Then we have Tun Ling, who corrupted the MCA because of his son, and who signed off on the PKFTZ papers. Then we have Tun Eusoffe Chin, who decided to take a holiday with Lingam.

Frankly, Lim Keng Yaik doesn’t deserve this title either. His stupid comments pre and post elections suggest that he is less than honest about the plight of the minorities.

Semi Value ? As someone said above, let’s confer him the title of “Nut” for his contribution to the Indians.

  10. #10 by madmix on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 10:44 am

This fellow has not retired from politics, Ling, Lim and Mahathir all retired from party posts. Samy was kicked out by the electorate but insist on hanging on to MIC. If he had retired, I think he will be rewarded with Tunship for his services to UMNO.

  11. #11 by Cinapek on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 10:50 am

If Samy still is in denial mode, this is it. He has disappeared completely from the BN radar screen and is considered no longer relevant to Pak Lah and company. Lim Keng Yaik is still recognised because Pak Lah knows he can still influence Gerakan because Dr Koh is a weak leader. And Pak Lah needs Gerakan to balance MCA. He knows the MCA is pissed off and blames him for the MCA GE losses and will not hesitate to throw their weight behind anyone who can oust him hence he needs Gerakan to deliver the balance. Samy not only cannot even fight his way out of a paper bag now but is such a distinct liability that the less to do with him the better.

    Dear Uncle Lim,

Let’s not worry about those datukships, Tun-ships and suchlikes. My schoolteacher used to make jokes about Italy having more ‘counts’ and countesses’ than the ordinary people. I fear we have reached that embarrassing stage.

Thus we need to control those awards to a more dignified number, perhaps with you passing a bill to limit such knighthood awards to only the Sultanates (as you and I don’t have our ‘rathers’, we just have to leave the Sultans to their royal prerogatives).

But at least we can prevent the most prolific generator of Datukships, the Malacca government, from issuing knighthoods as if those were confetti at a kindergarten fete. Even Jeanne Abdullah has a couple ;-) (not her fault of course but nonetheless an inevitability in our Bodekland).

It will of course deny the State governments of Sabah, Sarawak and my Penang the same privileges. Keep the non-Sultanate State honours, particularly Penang’s, at a non-titled level please.

Ai-yo-yo…Samy, no ‘Tun’ show and tell now? What do it?

  14. #14 by deathlings on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 10:57 am

    YB,

Please confirm whether is it true that once conferred as a Tun, the Tun cannot be prosecuted in court of law in Malaysia. As such, we have so many of the Ex-BN ministers who retired and got a Tun asap so dirty laundry can’t be digged up again them?

Maybe thats why Lim Keng Yaik needs one, considering the mess at MCMC and the transfer of Timedotcom’s 3G licence to DIGI.

Oh, Sdr Lim, this may quicken MIC leaving BN.

On more serious note, Samy is still the president of MIC. If he want his Tunship, he should copy LKYaik – pretend to resign and then control the party from behind the scene.

Oh, I forget, Samy is still trying to find a no bola guy to succeed him. Nowadays it is not easy to choose a successor. You must really really get a no bola and stupid guy, which is not easy.

  19. #19 by limkamput on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 11:12 am

Oh I forgot, what about Sdr Lim, why no Tunship for you. I have been campaigning since before March 8 election. You deserve the Tunship more than anybody else. When you get one, it will enhance the value of Tunship. So it is better for all the present Tun holders to support you getting one.

  20. #20 by justice_fighter on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 11:15 am

In today’s Malaysia, titles like Datuk, Datuk Seri, Tan Sri, Tun etc are getting more synonymous to corruption, nepotism, cronism, power abuse, stupidity, greed, injustice, dishonest, etc.

There is nothing to be proud of being conferred one of these titles. Everyone knows about this.

Can’t agree more with max2811, an honest and hardworking roadside hawker or toilet cleaner command more repects from me than these corrupted people that use big titles to cover up their sins.

Semi value will definitely get his Tunship once he has retired from MIC. Mark my word.

  21. #21 by yhsiew on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 11:21 am

I suggest Samy Vellu join PR to vent his anger for being not conferred Tunship.

    YB Lim Kit Siang,

I think this is an Irrelevant Posting .

This is like hitting below the belt and it certainly should not be from someone like Yb Lim.

The award of Titles by the DYMM Agong and the Sultans and the Governors are their prerogatives. I wont be bothered by whether Mr. Lim Keng Yaik or Mr. Ling Liong Sik has Tunship,or as Tan Sri on Chan Kong Choy and Rafidah Aziz. Similarly, whether Samy gets a Tun or not makes no diffrence to me now or when they all die, or when i die.

The Nobel Peace prize award would have been a better guage of any person for his /her contribution towards mankind for peace and love. I think, i have greater respect for Mother Theresa ( RIP ) and Nelson Mandela than anyone on this earth now.

This taking a swipe at Samy Vellu is unnecessary YB Lim. I think you have better things to blog than on such trivial subject. The Price hike domino effects on economic and social life of the raayat needs immediate attention . The dispute between Syabas and the Selangor state Pr government on free water needs attention.

Lest we are all distracted from the Lingamgate that the investigations by the police are still unclear or IP not even done yet.

Lest we are all distracted that Altantuya died from c4 blast , maybe pregnant with a child from whoever the father maybe.

Lest we are all distracted that the 100 days of PR rules on five states are due soon.

    Respectfully Yb Lim.
THIS MATTER IS NOT URGENT AND NOT OF NATIONAL INTEREST.
I DONT CARE AT ALL ABOUT KENG YAIK TUNSHIP OR SAMY NO TUN.

I hope you are clear about our concern as our MP. And Prepare the raayat for the 13th general election.
    thank you.

when i die, which can be any moment, i will die off as God so recognise me. Not with titles .

  24. #24 by madmix on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 11:37 am

Let me say it again: Tunship is for RETIRED heads of major BN components. Samy has NOT RETIRED. I am sure if he retires he will be well rewarded from being a good boy to UMNO.

  25. #25 by sheriff singh on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 11:45 am

    No “Tun” for Samy?

Well he’ll get one when he RETIRES.

Samy, you get the hint? You belum pencen. Maybe next year, ah, if you are gone by then? Don’t wait too long ya?

Also not even one MIC fellow got a pingat. Hmmmmm. Looks like they are all out to get you. Good for the Sikh fellow who got it though.

But I am sure Samy is already honoured by his community who appointed him as their “wira” and then booted him out.

Sorilah Samy. There’s always next year. Don’t sulk.

  26. #26 by Saint on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 12:28 pm

Saudara Lim, why waste energy on wasted matters, when the country needs “excellent brains” to pull us out form price hike, food shortage and fuel increase. Please devote time and energy on “useful matters to the public”. Most of the Indians have forgotten about Samy, no point bring back his memories and to keep him reminded. Let us all forget these BN cronies and move forward.

  27. #27 by Loh on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 12:34 pm

Two Tuns are to be investigated. Samy will get one when the Tun title comes off from them.

  28. #28 by Mr Smith on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 12:41 pm

He is still MIC president. If he had resigned, I am sure he would have gotten it too.
His day will come. Let them bring that Tunship to their graves.
For me, I respect a person for his righteousness, honesty and integrity, not titles.

  29. #29 by Dr_Albert_Schweitzer on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 1:01 pm

Many of us ordinary decent citizens don’t really care a damn about Tuns & Tan Sris except for a very few deserving ones.
Most of them are like what many of us have studied in elementary economics, that is,they are “good-for-nothing” or hopeless oafs. They are like Gresham’s Law where “bad money drives out the good”. Many of them are where they are today because they cheated and conned the poor Rakyat. So their tun-ships and tan sri-ships debased the value of the awards. Look around you and you will find among the Tuns and Tan Sris are people who are mad and senile whose inflamatory speeches aroused the Rakyat with a view to destroying our beloved country. They really should be locked up as they activities endanger our country and her people. So that is Tun-ship for you. Of course we are fully aware of two other highly corrupt Tuns who held the highest judiciary office on the land. We are better than them morally and righteously and we are happily untitled. So what is the big deal? Among the Tan Sris are a number who stole, plunder and commit daylight robbery of the Rakyat in the name of the New Economic Policy.
I respect the simple law-abiding, hard-working Malaysians who make their living in a decent and “clean” manner. They don’t need any Tun-ships or Tan Sri-ships.
Look at how Singapore prosper and succeed without such awards. All these awards are feudalistic and archaic and are intended to ensure a bondage of the poor decent Rakyat.

  30. #30 by cemerlang on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 1:09 pm

Respect has to be earned. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves of this.

There is not much that can be said for the givers and the receivers. Awards can be bought. Awards can be given because of personal agendas. Awards are given because of manipulation’s sake. There are too many people with such awards running wild.

One can see, one can hear, one can smell, one can talk, one can touch and one has the inner sense to know.

So what if a person appears so exclusive and gives off an air of superiority and pride ? Everyone knows what sort of real stuff is that person made of.

Tun Dr Lim Keng Yaik is a vocal person. But does he wonder about the situation Gerakan is in today ?

Just under what criteria would you give a Datukship to anyone ? Morals ? Ethics ? Physical strength ? Mental ability ? Social involvement ? Spiritual dimension ? and so on and so forth. Surely you cannot depend on looks and the power of seduction, or can you ?

  31. #31 by rainbowseahorse on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 1:14 pm

I believe Tun Dr. Lim Keng Yaik deserve the Tunship as he has always been very vocal in defending (within the confines of the BN rules & regulations) the rakyat in terms of rates hikes in utilities. His most memorable words I heard on TV news was when he was asked to comment on Tenaga CEO announced their intending rates hike. Tun Dr. Lim Keng Yaik words were: “He can talk what he likes. Ask him to come see me and I will tell him “NO!”".

As for Datuk Samy Vellu chances of receiving a Tunship? Ask the Malaysian Indian communities and see whether they think HE DESERVE A TUNSHIP. That should be a clear indication of what a bad leader can expect when he is out of power…and rightly so! Like a corrupted ex-JKR official shun by society after his retirement!

  32. #32 by Jong on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 1:15 pm

“Oh I forgot, what about Sdr Lim, why no Tunship for you.” – limkamput

Serious, if titles are given based on merits and real national contribution, YB Lim Kit Siang would have got it long time ago, long before Dr Mahathir Mohamed!

As Loh just said above, two Tuns are ‘to be investigated’. This is serious. It just goes to show there’s nothing so great carrying that title when ‘undeserved’ recipients do not live up to what the title represents.

  33. #33 by monsterball on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 1:15 pm

    hahahahaha….Samy will be furious!
Lets trace the history….how UMNO got the idea of giving titles.
Everyone knows….it is from Great Britain.
There they five..Sirs…Lords..Dames..to really deserving citizens…that have contributed so much to the country.
And commonwealth citizens are recognized by Britain too!! We have few “Sir” in Malaysia…that all Malaysians should be proud of them.
Here…almost all UMNO and BN politicians are decorated….upgraded from Datuks…Senators to Tan Sri….than TUN.
We have murderers…rapists..jail birds…low class teachers.farmers…taxi drivers….terrible daylight robbers of our country’s wealth….all from UMNO and BN…with titles.
And everyone knows….these tittle can be bought too!!
Then..they lump them all up ..with those noble and real heroes of Malaysia…the deserving lot…rightfully must be decorated.
Can you imagine their silent heroes…feeling shameful and frustrated? They cannot refuse the titles….especially given by the KING!!
Indonesia do not believe in titles…and somehow….I think …the Dutch are more humble and practical…so Indonesia inherited that habit.
Above all…Islam religion teaches everyone to be humble. How to be humble…so many titles”
So to top it all up……must have lots and lots of money and expensive car…big house…to keep up with the titles .
So how to get all those money needed???
Need I paint the whole picture?
    Why do UMNO do that?
    One clear sign..great great…inferiority complexes….putting out a superior front.
Then to see inferiority complexes…..get rid off…must have hundreds of millions. Money is the power!! So their titles with money…who dares to look down on the UMNO and BN blokes?
They cement that character..with such thick skin faces…with reasonings..that the whole world knows…what great hypocrites they are…so much so…they now have become another race.. the “WEIRD ONES”… in UMNO. BN guys have always carry balls of UMNO….so lets leave these onion faces…small fry asides.
No one can understand UMNO mentalities……except UMNO members… themselves.
The like to brag…never is wrong and talk alot of cock and bull…just because they have millions stolen money…title…huge houses.
Yes..Malaysia is a rojak country..being rojak by UMNO.

  34. #34 by rainbowseahorse on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 1:47 pm

We rakay Malaysian should just bestow the Tunship to Lim Kit Siang. We should all address him as Tun Lim Kit Siang from now onwards.

I don’t think they can be any higher honor than a title bestowed upon a person by fellow countrymen & women who sincerely feel a person is truely deserving of recognition of his time and deep sacrifices for the people.

To TUN LIM KIT SIANG, sir, my deepest respect and gratitude!

  38. #38 by kanthanboy on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 3:12 pm

The real issue of this posting by Kit is not about Tunship for Samy Velu, it is about why UMNO has given a lower price tag to MIC as compare to MCA and Gerakan. It is about the internal politics of BN.

People like Adam Yong Ibni Abdullah thinks this is an irrelevant posting and a trivial subject and yet chooses to respond with a long posting him/herself. If the shoe fits you, you wear it.

  39. #39 by donng55 on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 3:49 pm

    YB LIM

I concur with ADAM YONG IBNI ABDULLAH ‘s opion that despite our deep disappointments with Samy Vellu this posting is gratuitous. There is no need for this, for we know who he is, what he is made of, and what he had done. Let God deal with him. And let history judge him

If any, this only refelcts on yourself and DAP as a whole and the reasons why a significant number of Malaysians of Chinese origin have been avoiding DAP in the past since 1969 until the last GE

Why this posting when there are 1001 things that are important to the rakyat to talk about? Do you want to portray yourself to be yet another politician who fiddles while Rome burns?

We criticize BN leaders not for the sake of criticizing or just for the “kicks,” but for what wrongs they have done. It is our sincere hope that you being a leader in DAP and PR play a leading role in establishing a correct and positive political milieu

  40. #40 by Jong on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 3:49 pm

Samy Velu is spent force, no more power and rejected by Malaysian Indians so why should UMNO bother for him? I’m sure they know he has always been all for himself. Don’t we agree he deserves every bit of it? :D

  41. #41 by drmaharajahrk on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 4:04 pm

Since Mahathir became a Tun, the value of the title has been reduced !

  42. #42 by jim on Saturday, 7 June 2008 - 4:04 pm

Did Semi value eligible to get Tunship? Then we should ask the Malaysian Indian communities and see whether what they think. Nowadays he became so irrelevant and it is hard for him to garner anymore support from the Indians. The longer he stays on MIC, the longer MIC became irrelevant to their communities. Anger and hatred among Indians seems to pound heavier on him since he decided to stay on as MIC president despite losing his seat during the recent general election. I think he should have vacant that seat for the sake of the Indian communities. There are still plenty of calibre candidates in the party who can really make some changes and bring in new hopes for the Indians. Thats the key for the whole rebuilding of the MIC!

People have been saying that when you got Tun, you are not entitled to be sued. How far is it true? No wonder politicians who retired quickly get Tun because while they were in office, there were too many corrupted cases. So they get the Tun shield.

No wonder Samy Vellu did not want to quit gen election. He probably had asked abdullah to promise him Tun as a condition to quit election. But abdullah didn’t budge in.

    Dear YB LIM KIT SIANG,

Once again , whether MIC is leaving BN does not matters to the Indians anymore. IF we are propagating Bangsa Malaysia, than race based parties are irrelevant . I hope Kanthanboy understand this too.

We are so close to a Two Party system, lets not lose the last grip.
History can be created if there is a will. I am very proud that The USA finally has a Minortiy Black in Senator Obama as a Presidential Candidate. Who would have given that a thought 50 years ago?. I am equally proud that Senator Hillary has made women stand up and be counted as equal.

Please move on to bigger issues for the raayat than give space to some spent selfish leaders. ( too many ). CHANGE IS SENATOR OBAMA TAGLINE. CHANGE IS WHAT I WANT TO SEE TOO IN MALAYSIA. MY COUNTRY. NO RACIAL POLITICS PLEASE.
