With the yearly licensing that these media have to abide to, this was how they have been operating as they were when Mahathir was the PM. Do remember, in 1987 he banned The Star during the infamous operasi lalang. As for Abdullah now, I am sure he is recognising the need to open up the media in malaysia. And saying that, the next step would be the removal of the annual press licencing.
