"Mahathir was an authoritarian who undermined democracy and the independence of the judiciary, but he was secular at heart."

The cardiac surgeon who opened up his heart in the 80s did not reckon that he'd survive that long otherwise he would have stopped the heart. On hindsight he realized now that he has done a great disservice to the nation by failing to take the opportunity.

Indeed, not too rosy a prospect for the forseeable future other than a complex web of possibilities! What the country is desperately in need of it the next Malay "knight in shining armour" to get a grip of things and take the country to the next dynamic level- away from all the rottenness that has set into the core of just about everything that is lacking over the past 3 decades accross every sphere of life- talk about all the squandered opportunities so far!

"His successor Abdullah Badawi is more tolerant and less tainted by money politics"........Exactly which planet have you been living on Philip ??......the current PM is the laziest and possibly the least bright the country has had, and the DPM is hopelessly involved in a ghastly murder thanks to Mahathir’s introduction of cronyism……a majority of ministers with a penchant for crooked wheeling and dealing are firmly entrenched in a “parliamentary” system using continuity and stability as excuses to stay on in addition to an election commission that has absolutely no integrity………..and little of this country's true wealth has actually filtered to this country's masses thanks to deep rooted corruption.......unless the IHT has had a dose of NSTitis or STARopathy.........where you actually need to skip breakfast if you wanted to glance thru the first 50 pages of these papers' version of the country's “achievements” this morning.........there is gloom and fear…....not a celebrative mood and really not "so far so good"....I was there at the Merdeka stadium last night but left after 15 mins when the presentation was nothing more than blatant propaganda using mainly children.…. but looks like you stayed back.........those who choose to sleep thru problems may not have the luxury of waking up............
